Which would mean they could be a day or two older than 17 using just the year.

If the name is fake, why would anyone presume that the birth dates are real?

Yeah, that makes sense - Because everyone was born on 12:01 A.M. on January 1st. Huh? Half of all people born in 1990 have yet to turn eighteen. For an industry that is obsessed with eighteen year olds, accurate birth dates are a significant issue.
I never thought of that. However, instead of showing someone how to do this, wouldn't it have been better to just say how easy it was? Now someone with such a proclivity and who didn't know this, does.

I have met a couple of porn stars and I learned their real names at a later date via the iafd website, even if they had told me themselves I probably would still use their porn names while speaking to them
Whoa - hang on. It's our site's policy to not post real names. The only exceptions are if the name has been made famous by the mainstream media (i.e. Jenna's real name being splayed all over the E! True Hollywood Story; it's no longer a secret) or if we inadvertently list it because they were credited it as such. In the latter case, if it's brought to our attention we'll almost always remove it.
I don't understand the big fear that some people in porn have over their real names getting out. From my perspective, if you don't want people to know it's you doing something, don't do it in the first place. If you wanna use a pseudonym that's fine but expect that your real identity may come out some day and that's just the risk you take.
This makes the most sense of all. I have noticed that many of the younger performers, particularly those from the Eastern European countries, are doing just that. For example, how would Suzie Diamond, who has stated that she is leaving the industry for good, feel if people started coming up to her and mentioning that they loved that orgy anal film; particularly if you are trying to start working in a white collar profession. Even if she were recognized I think that you have to respect the person's decision on his/her life.

I think people have different selves they reveal to the world and to each other. We have varying degrees of public and private faces. The 'us' our co-workers and boss knows is not the 'us' our family knows. The 'us' our family knows may not be the 'us' our most intimate partner knows. And, even then, there may be thoughts and feelings we don't express to anyone, which remain truly private. In a business as odd and complicated as the sex industry, it makes sense that people would masquerade a bit. Even the stars who use their real names only reveal those personal aspects they want you to know. They're not revealing *everything*, even if you think they're showing you their all. Indeed, in a forum like this, we 'civilians' may communicate aspects of our inner-selves we wouldn't discuss publicly or, at least, not too publicly. I mean, most of my friends know I like porn and some of them know I've got a kink or two and lord knows, the women I've dated have been GGG, but I don't exactly need my entire office knowing I have a foot fetish. So, in an ironic way, we're all porn stars here. We use our noms-de-ADT and our funny avatars to blow off steam and shoot the breeze about all sorts of stuff. It's a nice, little private club we've got. I mean, I'll let you in on a little secret. I'm not really a fluffy white cat named Gainsbarre. Although, I do *rock* the plaid every once in a while.
Honest question, so I'll educate you... No one famous, or not *deserves* increased risk to them or their family, based on their chosen (legal) vocation. Everyone from an accountant at Ernst & Young, to Ariana Jolie, to Angelina Jolie have the absolute right to practice their craft without it making them, and their family the target of mis directed affection, or even malice. The problem is... Unlike most mainstream celebrities, who have the means to insulate themselves from the public at large, be it body guards, PR firms, security consultants, or even a simple gated estate, such measures are well beyond the means of a typical adult performer. Hell, mainstream celebs, male and female deal with scary stalkers all the time. Pick up an "US" magazine at the grocery store. I got recognized 4 times just going about my day yesterday. I can assure you that when I do get recognized, the fans (if they do approach me at all) generaly approach me a LOT differently than my female counterparts. We usualy talk 30 seconds, they almost always use discretion, and it ends at that. I do not worry abut being followed, ect. Consider this... In todays world, information is a key stroke away. Instead of posting on a screen name, give me your real name, and I can find your house, childrens school, work, your closest relatives homes, and work places, court history, divorces, debt, leins, tax history or any other public record, ad infinitum in a flash. I'm no computer whiz either. There is a plethora of web sites for people searches. Costs all of $45. US dollars to do, and 5 minutes, anonymously. Also... There are no shortages of deviant porn consumers, or even extreme right wingers that could use this information for mal intent. These are things that the typical every day Joe Schmoe never has to be concerned with as a result of a typical mundane 9-5 job. The more public a persons career (no matter how trivial you may deem the career to be in importance), the higher up the threat matrix said person and their loved ones have to contend with. Without even going that far, it's nobodys fucking business. *edited for 4am spelling skills* *HAH, 100'th post!* Edited by - Tyler Knight on 7/1/2008 7:26:14 AM Edited by - Tyler Knight on 7/1/2008 7:27:15 AM
Tyler, I get what you're saying but I must stress the following: Carmen Eletra is NOT her real name. Tony Curtis is NOT his real name. If I wanted to stalk either of them, I easily could without knowing their real names. A year ago I was working as a shooter for a porn company. I helped a few of the first timers come up with names. I would always make a point of asking them why they thought it was necessary to use a pseudonym and their response was always something like "I don't want my parents to find out" or something of that nature. Under circumstances like that, where the person is maybe going to appear in a handful of movies then disappear from the scene, I suppose keeping a tight lock on one's personal identity is more logical. But when you've gotten to the "name"/face recognition level of say Tera Patrick, Jenna Jameson, etc. chances are your parents aren't clueless as to what you're doing, whether you like it or not. I'm not saying that once a porn star becomes extremely popular they should suddenly start going by their real name or should make a point to have their real name revealed. Their privacy ought to be respected just as anyone else who chooses to use a pseudonym in their work, but seriously, when Jenna's real name was made public I doubt her friends and family were shocked to discover her profession [just using her as an example]. As for fans coming up to stars in their every day lives, knowing the person's real name as opposed to stage name is irrelevant. A psycho fan is a psycho fan is a psycho fan.
Jenna, and Tera both have the means to employ body guards. I agree that the girl that does a few scenes over spring break and quits doesn't need them. It's the vast majority of girls in between I'm refering to. Perhaps 99.9% will go through their entire career, and never have a dangerous incident. One in 1,000 is still one too many. It is for them, and only them to decide how they are refered by, no matter how illogical it may seem to anyone else. The public does not benefit in any way by knowing more than a stage name, does not make their scenes any hotter, make them more accessible, nor does this information being "outed" serve a greater good. If they choose to have their true ID not made public, or referd to by stage name only, then their wishes should be respected, regardless of the reason why, without question.

It all falls back on the industry. Girl shows up to do a scene. A mug shot is taken of her holding her drivers license with real name, DOB and address clearly shown. Some asshole back at the office leaks it for pay or who knows what else and the first thing you know is her bio shows up on Wikipedia with said real etc.
The only thing I care about is that porn chicks use first AND last names insofar as their nom de guerre. That makes doing internet searches must easier - try Googling the name Serenity! You'll get 100,000 pages of 12 step programs before you find one about the porn star...

How about when they use multiple names - Lena Nicole/Paris/Lena Aston/Ashley Paige/Kaela...I wonder how she keeps all her names straight.
Yeah, I see your point. I wasn't looking at it from the industry standpoint, but I can see why it's probably necessary, although it seems like having the 2257 info on file would be enough to insure that the girl in question is legal.
Used to be ages ago that almost all the girls would get their gigs through World Modeling; back then Bill Margold worked there and he'd give many of the girls their names. Now most of the girls choose their names or get them when they sign up with their talent agency - I don't care if they're real or fake so long as they have two names so I can do internet searches.
That already happened a few years ago. The internet porn contingent was able to trace the guy making the leaks to his company, he was fired, and that was the end of that. He had been posting the photos of the girls, like Tera Patrick, holding their IDs (social and driver's license) up just before shooting. The best thing to do before doing porn is to change your name and use a passport and driver's license as your two forms of ID, so that the social is a little less accessible.
It's wrong to post pictures of state ID on the internet no matter what occupation you have. That said, it's no more potentially harmful to your safety and privacy if you're in porn or not.
