That said, his performances (abusive or otherwise) are also deservedly known for their style and intensity, and that's why people like him (and I respect him on that level). The guy has an attitude -- you can love it, you can hate it, but you can't say he just shows up to work and shoots his load on cue -- the guy has a clear purpose to his performance, and he's good at it.

Personally, I don't care for the outright choking and other "trauma" he inflicts, but I do like his attitude, skill, and intensity -- the guy often is covered in sweat by the time he's done.

2. Rocco's a good looking guy with a decent body and is very well endowed. That's something that automatically gives a male performer an edge....even if he isn't that great or a performer (which Rocco, on his best days is a GREAT performer). So, he appeals to women as well. Rocco isn't the best in this aspect. I've seen better camera work, better lighting and better picture quality and editing than in the best of Rocco's titles but he's well above average in all regards here. He's consistent and that's important.

7. His performances are *usually* INTENSE! No matter what you think about the way he treats the female talent or whether or not you like rough sex, one thing you will almost have to admit if you watch enough of Rocco's work is that the man knows how to fuck and he knows how to do it in a way that puts on a good show for the camera. I've never known of ANY director or performer who comes through with a scene that will appeal to everybody every single time and Rocco is no exception. I've been very disappointed with quite a few of his videos but when he hits his stride with something that really appeals to me, there's nobody better. I've rented and bought countless Rocco videos that left me utterly drained with a goofy smile on my face for hours. I've rented some that left me lukewarm, frustrated and limp. Like I said, I feel that he strives for variety and that's not going to please everyone every time.

Rocco's videos weren't always like they are now. He's gotten a LOT rougher over the past couple of years than he was in his early years. There was a time when he was one of the few shooting good, quality anal sex in a way that appealed to a lot of people and that's where I believe he picked up most of his fan base. Rocco watches what's going on elsewhere in the industry and if there's a trend that's becoming popular, he will often incorporate it into his videos. He tends toward stuff that's more edgy and more hardcore because frankly, that's what sells and I personally believe that he enjoys what he does. I believe he does enjoy rough, edgy sex. I'm a fan of rough, edgy sex. I personally don't enjoy it if it's apparent that the girls aren't enjoying it though. So if he's making flicks in which the girls are turned off by it, that would be a departure from his established style.

He used to go easy on the girls that obviously weren't into the rough thing and I've never seen him do anything any of the girls obviously hated. I have only seen one new Rocco video in the past year or so though and Rocco himself didn't perform in that one so maybe he changed. Starting with Animal Trainer, he DID start getting a LOT more rough and I only saw the first three installments of that series (which I enjoyed).

In the end, Rocco is very popular for all of the reasons I mentioned above and even for the reasons you mentioned. One of the things he's well known for is sometimes being VERY rough. That's not quite as unusual these days in porn as it used to be so people don't talk about it as much but they still do talk about it. People hear about it, they want to see what all the fuss is about so the watch his stuff. They either like it or they don't. They're more likely to kick up a fuss about it if they're offended by it, though, which actually just makes him more notorious....like Max Hardcore. Some of Max's stuff is incredibly pedestrian but he's infamous because of all of the work he's done that people have seen and talked about so much, mostly online. Both Max and Rocco have appeared in some pretty hardcore stuff. Rocco doesn't get quite as much heat about it as Max does because he's a lot better looking but both have been hotly denounced by some.

But anyway...if I didn't like rough sex, Rocco's work probably wouldn't be my first choice on things to see. But if you really want to know why he's so popular, check out some of his older work (if you can still find it). Like I said, he's done a wide variety of stuff and you might actually find something you like even if you don't like his newer stuff. He's shot some stunning women in some unbelievably hot and intense scenes. So much the better if you like good, quality, hardcore anal. Most of his stuff has a heavy focus on anal sex.

I believe Rocco will be a porn legend someday. He's one of my favorites and I've seen a LOT of porn.
