This may sound stupid but I've been wondering the answer to this question for a long time and this place seems like the perfect spot to ask.
How is anal sex different from vaginal sex? I mean, aside from the obvious. Now I know how it feels different from the guy's side, but girls: is one better than the other? Different sensations? Depends on the mood? I understand that all girls are different and have different answers to that question, but I was wondering if there was a general consensus.
O.K, so my first thought is: Maybe I'm old fashioned by the idea of anal as anything other than special occasion is odd to me. Honestly, if I put the question to any of my "mainstream" girlfriends they would be shocked. I think anal as typical is yet another idea that the fantasy land of porn has created.
As far as difference, vag is very natural, no straining or stretching, no need for working up to it(aside from normal forplay, no need for excessive caution, no need for special cleaning. It's just vroom vroom, let's go.
Anal takes more planning, caution and well it doesn't feel natural or like vag at all. It's a little or a lot painful depending and it feels odd. When the guy pulls out it almost feels as though you're having a bowel movement.

well i was thinking more along the lines of female opinions when asking the original question but seeing valjean's post puts things into perspective. perhaps i was being a little closed minded because a) i like engaging in anal sex with girls (assuming they're into it) but have often wondered what exactly is the difference (if any) of the sensation (thank you, lunacy, for your opinion, btw). b) i've never had the notion to stick anything up my ass and therefore assumed that most straight guys probably haven't had the notion to. it really never occurred to me that straight guys could get pleasure from there, too (yes, closed-minded. if a gay or bisexual guy can get pleasure from there, why can't a straight guy? there is no physical difference between the two).
All that being said let's expand the original question a little and include guys as well (though i do think it would be difficult for a guy to explain the difference in sensation between receiving anal sex and vaginal sex, unless you are one of a rare breed).

As far as the prostate goes, yeah, that one was a bit odd for me too. However, when I found out I had a "g-spot" at the base of my penis, between the testes(for some reason I feel silly using technical terms on this forum), perinuem area, I didn't know why. Then I found out that it's because that spot is pretty much as close as you can get to the prostate on the outside of your body.
I believe that the prostate is the gland that produces sperm. as far as why it feels good to massage it during sex and masturbation, I don't have a clue. I stopped thinking about biology after the suffering through learning the Krebs cycle in the 9th grade. It gets way over my head after that.

The only time that anal penetration feels like a bowel movement is when I actually do have to go. Anal sex feels different to vaginal sex because, as others have mentioned, it's a slower process as a woman's butt isn't naurally lubricated like her vagina. You have to "prepare" more for anal in that you need to be clean and empty and your partner needs to go slow and use lube.
