And by vignettes, I'm talking about films where each scene has it's own, self-contained story. Most of the time, there is also common theme to the stories. In as such, they are at least quite similar to feature films in that context to the sex is a vital part of the work. Seems there's a growing amount of this kind thing out there, both in the boy/girl and lesbian realm. Girlfriends Films have been masters of this for years. New Sensations and Digital Sin almost exclusively make these kinds of films. The entire family roleplay genre is rooted in these kinds of movies. What are some of your favourite directors/studios/series that have embraced this style?
Off hand I would say that the "Sweet Sinner" series from Mile High leads the way in this genre. Forbidden Fruits is up there as well but the star power isn't the same as Sinner.
For me, nothing beats Moms Bang Teens. No other vignette series ensures the performers stay in character to this degree and the director gets the most amazing acting out of them. Fantastic stuff.

I've generally classified Sweet Sinner's stuff as features seeing as there's a larger arching storyline in each fillm. The lesbian stuff from Sweetheart Video, however, seems to go back and forth between vignette and feature. Speaking of which, Dana Vespoli does some great directing for them. Over the past year or so, she's easily become one of my favourite directors.
While I am completely ignorant about current porn, I will say that vignettes are my favorite. You got a story. You got sex. Poor features seem to bow under the weight of telling a large story and the sex or the narrative suffer. However with vignettes, there's a perfect balance. For that I will always love Elegant Angel's Sodomania series. 💜💜💜

I'm noticing something of a trend in this realm as well. For instance, in a lot of the Girlfriends Films series, there is a continuing series feel. And each scene within a full-length release genuinely feels connected. But each scene just as easily stands alone. Come to think of it, a lot of the Sweet Sinner stuff feels the same way... Is that the mark of the Internet age? Where instead of releasing full-length films on the subscription/a la carte site, it happens more in single episodes? And as a result, the DVD's feel more like 4 connected vignettes than a true feature? Edited by - ScottMcGowan on 7/2/2015 9:58:35 AM
^I was thinking about Girlfriend Film series when you posted your first comment. Even though they have a huge variety of series. Each of the movies in those series can be taken as stand alone just as most if not all of their various vignettes within the same movies can also be taken as stand alone. If you follow watch the series in sequence then you may see that the same performer will play the same character in multiple series and that can add to the overall enjoyment.

The only problem I have is that there's SO MUCH (2-3 DVDs every two weeks) from Girlfriends. Keeping up is nigh impossible. That's the only drawback to being so prolific. But, as we said. They can easily stand alone as individual scenes or full-length DVDs. And I guess that's part of GFF's genius. The running characters and allusions to past volumes in the series act almost like easter eggs for the hardcore fans who never miss a scene.
^I agree and worse is that the chemistry between the different performers and the overall quality of the scenes is not always the same from one movie to the next that it becomes sort of a gamble to buy one movie in the hope that it's as good that previous one. It really sucks to pay 20$ for a movie and 2 of the 4 scenes are pure crap. I know GF has a website now and it would be nice to join to save on spending that 20$ for one movie but they still release so many movies per month and have such a huge library that it's not really worth it to join regularly as they simply don't upload enough new content each month. It's worse for someone like me who already owns a lot of the older GF movies because I have a few years to wait before it's even worth it for me to join.

Years ago Brazzers produced a longer vignette with three full sex scenes starring Lexi Belle and Gracie Glam in a porn version of The Black Swan. I was hoping Brazzers would continue down that path, does anyone know any producers creating more interesting and ambitious vignettes these days?
