OK. I have a Pioneer 100 disc changer that I've had since, probably, 02. I've never had a problem with it. It's always been rick solid.
Well, I haven't used it for a while. Tonight, I've been listening to (pristine) CDs. At least twice, the thing has skipped from where it was playing to a random part of an entirely different song.
Now I'm not really afraid to work on it. I hardly ever use it anyway so it wouldn't be a huge loss if I killed it but it's in my audio rack, has a bunch of CDs in it and I really don't want to take it out until I have some idea what I might try to do to fix it.
I'm thinking the lens might be dirty since I've been smoking pretty heavy in this room. It may be sticky nicotine or it might just be dust. I have no idea.
Does anyone know how accessible the lens assemblies are on these CD changers?

Why not just try one of the cleaning discs with the fine brush on the playing side, first?

Dirty laser lens. You can buy CDs with little brushes on them that clean the lens, or you could try to do it yourself with a cotton swab and some alcohol. Just be very careful with it.

I have a can of compressed air. I'm thinking of just aiming it in what I believe is the general direction of the lens.

I would suspect oxidation (from lack of use) and/or dirtiness from the smoking effecting the front panel controls themselves (think contacts making/breaking with a mind of their own), as much as or more than a dirty lens.

The hell with it. I just hooked up my computer to my receiver. I have all my music copied to my computer anyway.
