This worked fine maybe a year or so ago and now the friggin' CD wizard won't finish! It gets past the part where it analyzes the files or whatever. The drive appears to be accessing for a little while and then it simply ejects the disc and reports "Unknown Error" or some shit. I've tried CD-R and a CD-RW and different brands of media. As far as I know the drive works. It reads discs just fine. I haven't tried writing other types of files because I don't want to waste a disc. And no...these aren't pirated songs. I ripped them all from CDs that I own (which, I guess they don't like but I don't see a problem with it). I just want to make a compilation so I don't have to swap discs while I'm working out. What could possibly be going on? The files play fine in Foobar in my PC so that's not it, I guess. [Link] |

But shit...I've had all kinds of freeware shit that I installed and uninstalled just to try it out. So that could have been anything. I was just wondering if anybody else might have been having this problem. Like maybe it was something that was known to happen and I wouldn't have to do a clean install of Windows to figure it out. Burning a CD is not really that important, I guess. It just bugs me. [Link] |

Try burning a disc with a different program, like ImgBurn (use the "Build" mode to add some mp3 files and create a disc image, then burn the image with the "Write" mode. If that doesn't work, you could try looking up what kind of burner you have in Device Manager, and check on the web whether there is an updated firmware available for it. Burners don't last forever, even the expensive ones; it may just need to be replaced. New ones are cheap; example [Link] |

I don't think it's the burner, really. I haven't used it that much. I have a couple more laying around somewhere. I just figured I'd ask before I pulled the computer apart and dug through everything I own looking for the other CD writer. [Link] |
