I was trying to go into the chat room tonight and it would not let me get in.

applet failed.....

I switched over to IE and couldn't get in there either.

Is it me or something?

I just got in. I'm using mIRC.

There are about a dozen people in there right now.

The main chat applet never seems to work. There should be a link for an alternate chat somewhere on that page; try that.

Using a dedicated chat program is in many cases a more satisfactory way of participating in online chats. mIRC, as DenverDon mentioned, is one of the main ones. But since you're using Firefox anyway, it's even easier to just use the ChatZilla extension. I'm not sure if Firefox comes with it already installed, or if you have to install it as an extension. Check to see if it's there under the Tools menu. Configure it to go to irc://irc.adultdvdtalk.com, and join channel #adt.

We haven't upgraded our chat server software in a very long time. It's hard to justify spending a thousand bucks. The minichat Java client seems to work well for most people but if you're going to be a regular chatter then getting a client program like mIRC is the way to go.

The reason the Java client fails to load is due to very old fnction calls being made. Java has built in security measures to prevent client apps from communicating with unauthorized servers over the network. Out client application is so out dated that most modern java implementations will block it from running.

I made a few changes to the way the chat server software is configured. The standard chat client appears to work in IE and Firefox now.

Ok, I have chatzilla now, but the only channels that come up are

#other - two people
#dvd talk - two people
#gdt - one person

This being Wednesday night I figure more prople shoueld be on. How do I get channel #adt?

You can also set it up to automatically join the channel. Tool --> options --> Lists --> Auto-Perform. Click on "add" and type "join #adt" (do not type the "/" before "join").
