Perhaps most circumcised men think their experience of sex is quite normal, just the way nature intended sex to feel, but these quotes, taken from men who were circumcised as adults, may make you rather angry to learn that you are clearly missing something deep and vital in your sexual experience.

(From www.circumcision.org/adults.htm)

"I play guitar and my fingers get callused from playing. That's similar to what happened to my penis after my circumcision."

"After the circumcision there was a major change. It was like night and day. I lost most sensation. I would give anything to get the feeling back. I would give my house." [This man's physician persuaded him to be circumcised by warning he could otherwise get penile cancer. When the man complained of the result, the physician replied, "That's normal" and would not help him.]

"Slowly the area lost its sensitivity, and as it did, I realized I had lost something rather vital. Stimuli that had previously aroused ecstasy had relatively little effect....Circumcision destroys a very joyful aspect of the human experience for males and females."

"The greatest disadvantage of circumcision is the awful loss of sensitivity when the foreskin is removed...On a scale of 10, the intact penis experiences pleasure that is at least 11 or 12; the circumcised penis is lucky to get 3."

"The sexual differences between a circumcised and uncircumcised penis is like wearing a condom or wearing a glove...Sight without color would be a good analogy...Only being able to see black and white, for example, rather than seeing in full color would be like experiencing an orgasm with foreskin and without. There are feelings you'll never have without a foreskin."

"After thirty years in the natural state I allowed myself to be persuaded by a physician to have the foreskin removed-not because of any problems at the time, but because, in the physician's view, there might be problems in the future. That was five years ago and I am sorry that I had it done...The sensitivity in the glans has been reduced by at least 50 percent. There it is, unprotected, constantly rubbing against the fabric of whatever I am wearing. In a sense, it has become callused...I seem to have a relatively unresponsive stick where I once had a sexual organ."

A rather sad awakening, I think, for those men who were circumcised at birth and had no accurate means of gauging just what they had been deprived of by this barbaric and totally unnecessary procedure. And with at least 60 percent of males in the U.S. having been mutilated in this fashion, perhaps it's best that the facts described above do not become more widely known anytime soon.

Neither do those circumcised as adults have no accurate way of gauging the difference. They report a leatheriness and lack of sensation that those that were circumcised at birth don't report. There seems to be a difference in sensation loss depending on the age the circumcision was performed.

I can't "know" but I suspect that one reason I am able to last significantly longer than my partners (often too long) is that I don't have the level of sensation that they do. However, it hasn't slowed me down any.

The only real advantage I see to having an intact foreskin other than its being a great extra sex toy is in anal intercourse: I'm almost always a top because I really don't enjoy getting fucked in the ass; however, I've discovered that being fucked by a guy who is intact provides a whole different experience. Essentially, the cock slides within its skin sheath, reducing the "burn" while allowing full motion and sensation -- a much more enjoyable experience.

There is detailed information about this in this thread which has been locked

Men circumcised at birth regard their loss of sensation as "normal", and a few appear to be in a permanent state of denial about it.

Those circumcised as adults know exactly the level of sensitivity they had while intact. High enough that it would be impossible to wear clothes with the glans uncovered.

All circumcised males wear clothes. Quod erat demonstrandum.

This is a debate that most likely will not end soon, especially in the US one of the last western countries to still practice this in a non-religious sense.

A man born to wealth loses half of his fortune in the stock market and is forced to live in reduced circumstances. The millionaire feels his loss keenly and complains to his neighbor that man cannot possibly live on so little. The neighbor, who has lived on so little all his life takes the millionaire for a fool. Which one is ignorant, do you think?

Well, in my case it was exaclty the opposite. I was circumcised in my early 20's and it was the best money I ever spent. I would never go back to having a foreskin and my only regret is that I wasn't done at birth. I know it's only one person's experience, and if you're adamantly against the operation you'll no doubt be able to turn up a different viewpoint, but as someone who has experienced plenty of sex with and without a foreskin, the foreskin free model wins hands down. The difference is like night and day as far as sensation goes.

Not trying to flame - just posting my experience.

Thanks galain. It's interesting to hear from someone with a different experience. Would I be right in guessing that your foreskin did not retract, but remained covering the glans during sex?

im kinda half and half! my frenum, which is that piece of skin under the penus head which is contected to the foreskin snapped a few years back. so my foreskin is now a free agent!
never been a problem though.

My foreskin retracted just fine. It wasn't tight at all and wasn't limited by a tight frenulum. I lived in a warm climate and I picked up a few infections under there. I saw one doctor who advised me to get it cut off, but I didn't want to so I shopped around. The next guy I saw said I could use steroid cream, but in the end he said my choice was either walk around with cream oozing from the end of my dick whenever I had an infection (not that often BTW, but still too often for my liking), or lose it.

I'd heard about this loss of sensitivity and I didn't want to get circumcised at all, but eventually I gave in. The past 12 years I've been like "What the f...? Jesus, what have I been missing out on..."

Like I said, and like you've no doubt noted from other posts here, my experience isn't shared by everybody. I have talked about this with a friend of mine though - who is also a GP (we met after my surgery), and she told me that she knows many men circumcised as adults who experience greater sensation like I did after the surgery. Horses for courses I guess.

galain,

Yes many are against it being done on a helpless child. Whereas in your case you made an informed decision as an adult.
So while I think you may have considered more hygenic practices, I do not know the nature of your environment. And I would support your decision if that was the best choice for you as a consenting adult.

I hear you. I had to front this last week, which is what urged me to post again on this topic. A good friend of mine is about to become a single mother, and had asked me for my opinion on circumcision. All I could say was that it was the best money I'd ever spent and I wished I'd been done at birth, but I had a very hard time working out if this was a decision anyone should make for a young child without reason. Either it's just one of the many many choices parents make for their children on a regular basis, or it isn't - and that depends entirely on your point of view.

Working in an allied health field myself, I'd be much more concerned about vaccinating my children than circumcising them, considering some of the research that is coming out recently. Permanently altering the immune system and possibly the nervous system is pretty big decision to have to make on someone else's behalf as well.

BTW - if you think choosing to have a baby circumcised is cruel, you should have seen what my parents chose to dress me in in the 70's!

+1 for circumcision. Had sex both before and after the removal, and been enjoying sex much more. On the other hand, the skin was to tight before (it actually tore at my first sexual experience, so even man can bleed when devirginised). Anyway, after operation, the feeling is better, it looks better, and most girls I met find it nicer as well.

Read this article for an interesting story of a man who, circumcised at birth, underwent a long procedure called 'foreskin restoration' as an adult in order to experience greater sexual sensitivity. He claims that having a foreskin is FAR more pleasurable than being 'cut'.

I can't help thinking that those posters that claim to like being circumcised are simply trying to rationalize their situation to themselves in order to avoid some otherwise rather very unpleasant conclusions.

Up to you to make your own conclusions.
Out of interest, have you yourself experienced both sides (sex with and sex without a circumsised cock)? If not, what makes you value the opinion from a guy on a website higher then the experiences from people who have had both?

I'm damn proud of my one eyed torpedo , you guys are just jealous .

He is actually agreeing with many people who have had both.

Also, in this thread, both you and the other pro-circ poster admit to having an injured or unhealthy foreskin before the cut, so claiming to have "had both" is perhaps a little misleading.

I was circumcised at birth and wish I hadn't been. There may or may not have been some loss of sensation -- I suspect there may have been, but I have no way of knowing. My complaint is that I didn't have a choice.

I have no problem with circumcision, per se. There are certainly a number of reasons and situations where it is a reasonable option. However, I do think that it should be an informed choice made by the individual and his doctor -- not an automatically tabulated item added to the cost of birth as it usually is here in the USA. I think it should be limited to those whose religion requires it or where there is medical need. Social convention is not a reasonable justification for the procedure.

That I totally agree with you. I find it disturbing that parents get to make the choice for their children.

Circumcission, like religious education, should be left out of childrens lifes untill they are able to think and make the decission for themselves.

theres a reason for circumcision... it isn't just about the aesthetic looks and religion, its because the foreskin has a tendency to harbor harmful germs thtat can lead to very bad infections.

i think only some people who get circumcised lose sensation. it depends on how the nerve endings are arranged on the penis when you are young. the end of the nerve endings are the most sensitive, nerves grow slightly differently from person to person....and it just depends if these endings were sliced off or not in the circumcsion process.

Maybe you should open your mind about topics you post for discussion. There's no point in discussing anything with someone who won't listen to other viewpoints.

I have intimately known two men who were circumcised as adults. Both were much happier with their sex life post operation. That doesn't mean I believe in circumcision at birth. I see valid arguments both ways.

"this barbaric and totally unnecessary procedure. And with at least 60 percent of males in the U.S. having been mutilated in this fashion"

Just a few key words here I think......barbaric, unnecessary, and mutilated..

How any loving parent can subject their perfect, healthy baby boy to this procedure is beyond my comprehension.....if it becomes a medical necessity or an operation of choice later in life, so be it. At least then some form of anesthetic is used.....but to strap down or pin down these babies and cut off living, healthy flesh and to claim that it doesn't hurt as they scream .......just don't get it!!!!!

Add to that lovely mental image that I just left you with, the fact that I am now with the first un-cut man in my experience and am loving his foreskin every chance I get...

My husband's circumcised and is quite happy with himself.
My older son is partially circumcised and seems quite happy with himself.
My younger son is not circumcised and also seems quite happy with himself.

Do I think circumcision is unnecessary? Sure. Do I think it's barbaric mutilation? No.

Funny thing is, I feel VERY lucky to be uncut, but people who are pro-circumcision tell me I'm missing out on something.

Yeah I'm missing out on the knife to my knob part. No thanks.

Licker - if you're referring to me you're mistaken. My foreskin functioned perfectly. It wasn't tight, it retracted easily and quite spontaneously upon erection, it felt good during sex. As for "unhealthy" - well thanks for that. I lived right on the tropic of Capricorn where the weather was consistently humid and the temperatures very high pretty much every day. I showered twice a day, and was (and still am) scrupulously clean. For whatever reason I developed an infection under (actually - on the inside of) my foreskin, which returned several times. It was uncomfortable and I sought treatment for it. Read my post again.

I did not want to get circumcised.

I never considered myself or parts of my body as "unhealthy".

I had heard about this loss of sensitivity, and my God, sex felt pretty damn good to me already. I didn't want to lose the sensations I was feeling then. Circumcision was suggested by the first doctor I saw and it freaked me out enough to go and get a second opinion.

My circumcision made an enormous improvement to an already fantastic sex life. I'll say it again - I didn't want to get circumcised. I'm so very glad I did. The pleasure my circumcised penis gives me is something I will never stop marvelling at.

I'm just sharing my own very positive experience. It's a shame that people will try and twist it into something negative just because it differs from their own.

I was cut at 1 year. If I lost sensation, it makes no difference to me because sex is still one of the most intense and pleasurable feelings I experience.

In fact, Mrs. C's oral skills would likely kill me if my sensation were any greater.

Besides, why fret over something one cannot change?

The US is supposedly a democracy and free country. I can't for the help of God understand how men in the US can accept that they are being circumcised as babies. Are you happy with such a situation? How can you accept it? It's a violation of your bodies that you have no control over, and didn't choose yourselves.
Circumcision is a primitive cultural tradition in Africa and among orthodox Jewish people. But in modern civilised US?? It's really bizarre. And the excuse that circumcision prevents bacteria and infections doesn't hold up, because foreskin does not lead to bacteria or infections. Another excuse I have heard is that it's done to prevent American men from masturbating. If so, that's outrageous! To violate a person's body and integrity like that should be considered a crime. And psychologically it enforces guilt to human sexuality and bodily senses. Causing hypocrisy and contradictory double morals in America.
Circumcision does make it more difficult to masturbate, and so release energy and tension through orgasm. I believe this leads to much frustration, and consequently aggression among American men. This aggressive behaviour shows very clearly in American male porn performers, along with a kind of panicky desperate determination pushing to reach ejaculation.
I think it's sad, and don't see how the tradition with circumcision can be allowed to continue in a modern country. The tradition is probably not very old either, since it isn't rooted in a common religious cultural background, but rather stems from modern health or moral ideas.

I hear quite a bit about ppl with foreskin having trouble retracting.
They must not have retracted early in life. I did it when I was 4 and since on.
Heck I didnt know I was uncut until I was like 17 cause NOTHING in school talks about circumcision.
Even the friggin diagrams they show kids when they seperate boys and girls didn't show a foreskin,
it merely showed an erect penis.
So looks like we can blame public schools for the way ppl think as well.
ALL my friends are cut BUT only one of them agrees on how unneccesary
it is at birth. The other got "converted" to our thinking after watching an episode of Bullshit!.
Before that, he was another one of those ppl that went "ew" at the word of foreskin.

Foreskin is only seen as ugly if you live in a country where circumcision is routinely practiced. I'm glad that isn't the case over here.

what is it with foreskin? i use it in a punchline every once in awhile but i also have known some girls that would rather have had me uncut. then the under-the-sheets game is to convince them otherwise.
