You have good taste. There's supposed to be a new FABLES series coming out later this year that spotlights the girl fables we haven't seen yet or much of before starring Red Riding Hood, Sleeping Beauty (I think) and others but it'll probably be awhile before it's made into a trade though. I understand not being into the Marvel stuff because it's all mostly superheroes. THE BOYS is fun to read because it makes fun of the superhero stuff. If you like Garth Ennis' stuff I'm sure you must've read PREACHER. Speaking of comics let me ask you something...a lot of people complain that they women are turned off to superhero comics and many comicbook shops because of big breasted comicbook characters in revealing outfits. They claim women don't like seeing those types of images and puts women in a bad light. I kinda understand where they're coming from but I see superhero comics as mostly a guy fantasy thing like action movies where all the guys are handsome and muscular and all the girls are sexy. You're sexy and hot and like to dress up...do you think most comicbook superhero women are a turn off to the average woman and do they sometimes go too far from what you've seen?
I'll keep an eye out for the new Fables series. The last Cinderella one they did was a little boring, but I really liked the first Cinderella series. Preacher I have around here somewhere, and I'll get to it eventually. I have read The Pro though, and that was hysterical. Here's the thing with superhero books: The costumes don't bug me (Emma Frost can ride my face ANYTIME!) but the writing does. I don't watch soaps, and half the crap out there reads like a soap opera. Like, I tried to get into X-Men because I used to watch the animated series, but it just felt like "Boo-hoo, Scott Summer's can't keep a girl". It got worse when I tried reading Ultimate X-Men, which instead read like "Boo-hoo, Scott can't keep a girl because Logan's always fucking her"! That said, these books SHOULD appeal to your average dumb chick, but the sci-fi elements are what turns them off. Girls are trained to reject that stuff as "boy stuff", and some of it, when they can manage to get to a fight scene or action sequence is like that, but I don't think that the costumes or body types are the turn off. The thing DC did recently with Catwoman and Starfire bothered me though. Starfire went from a naive alien with a heart of gold to a ditzy whore. They essentially made her into the stereotype of a porn star. Catwoman's first issue read like bad fan-fic, especially the badly drawn fucking at the end. Now, comic shops, that's a different story. The shop I go into, I don't like hitting up on Wednesdays. When I go in on slow days, I can chat about sculpting and painting supplies with the owner (he does 40K figs), and I can joke with the comic guy he has working there about how he should be ashamed to like Rob Leifeld art, but on Wednesdays? Well, then I'm no longer a human being. I had fewer people stare at my tits and ignore me when I went to porn conventions. The last time I was there, I brought up how BBC America is showing The Nerdist after Doctor Who now, and I got a couple blank stares, and one dude ran for the hills. This happens EVERY time I try to talk to these types of guys, and they're in every comic shop I've ever been in. Even at Midtown comics last time I was in NYC, the general population of nerds there were just assholes who couldn't talk to a girl. Mind you, the guys working at Midtown were awesome, but that isn't the problem. Civilian girls don't like comic shops because they usually get dragged in unwillingly on a Wednesday, and then ignored and stared at. There's nothing bringing them back from that unless they already happen to like a few titles or play magic.

LOL!!! Surprised to hear you aren't into the soap opera aspect. At the risk of sounding like a sexist caveman, I thought the soap opera aspect would be the most appealing part to most women. Take away the soap opera stuff from the average superhero comic and you're just left with good guys fighting bad guys...particularly in X-men comics. The X-Men comics tend to have the biggest superhero female audience from what I understand.Surprised again. I'm actually enjoying Catwoman. It may be a bit over the top at times but I think the sexuality they're trying to do works for the character. I think the stories after the first issue have gotten better. The book Starfire is in (RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS) I mostly pick up because I like the art style of the artist who draws it. I like his energy. Otherwise, I'm indifferent about the actual story. Starfire is different and less appealing in this version but I guess the writer thought writing her that way would give her an edge or make the book sexier. Many fans don't like the changes in Starfire and Catwoman and are bothered by both being protrayed in such a sexual way.LOL! I've heard stories like yours but didn't think they were common. I see girls/women fairly often in the shop I go to but I rarely talk to them because only because they usually don't talk to me first and I don't want to seem like I'm trying to hit on them and they often give off the vibe they don't want to be talked to. But I'm the same way with the guys who shop there too. The way ususally I end up talking to people there is by joining in on a conversation they're having with the owner. I actually wish I had more conversations about comics/art with women because I find their perspective interesting.That's true. The girls who come in with husbands/boyfriends seem annoyed to be there. I'm sure for some people the similarity to soaps of pro-wrestling is one of the draws (fun fact: did you know that WWE looks to hire writers with soap experience?), but for me, it just isn't that appealing. I think you're right about X-Men though, but I wish it was somehow more authentic. FABLES shows you can do complex stories that involve relationships without having to get cheesy with it.With these books it isn't the sexuality that bugs me so much as how it's portrayed. Right now it's kinda considered cool to be a "geek" or "nerd" because of the success of the superhero/comicbook movies, Comicon becoming a big deal event, and all the tv shows and movies geared toward the geek mentality. So of course some people will try to ride that wave. I don't know much about Olivia Munn other than what she looks like and that she used to co-host ATTACK OF THE SHOW on G4. She probably had to fake being a geek/nerd for that show but I'm not sure because I just started watching it a couple of months ago. I like the girl co-host Candice Baily but apparently most people preferred Olivia saying she knew more about that stuff than Candice. They say Candice tries too hard and only got the gig because they wanted a cute/sexy girl for the fanboys. I find her cute and kinda funny in a goofy way. ^ Honestly? It all depends on the day. I work with things like clay and paint a lot though (some girls strip or escort, I make art) so for me jeans and t-shirts are a must. When I'm going to galleries are just going out, skirts, dresses, and things like that are what I wear. I try to go for classy, never trashy. As for Olivia, if you pay attention to the stuff she gets wrong, it's more telling. You can tell when she's "off script" because she has no clue and doesn't "get" in jokes and references. Like, I was watching "Cowboys and Aliens" the other day and when they crash the first spaceship, my fiancee shouts "Welcome to Earf". I died laughing! Olivia would need someone to explain to her that it's a Will Smith/ID4 joke. People can like her all they want, but as a girl who was raised a nerd, it bugs me. I grew up on D&D, and Heavy Metal. @DRAXXX HA! Yeah, my Nerd-cred is legit :) I like Sandman, but I'm not a big manga fan. With art, it kind of works like this. Take what you think your time is worth (say $10, for this example) then factor in the cost of supplies (say $2 for an oz of clay) then add them together and round up a little and you get $15 for a 2-inch tall sculpture. With painting it's the same way. That works okay for some stuff, like when you're new and have no idea what sells for what. Otherwise, hit that particular gallery ahead of time and see what others have priced their wares at. If a painter routinely charges $150 for a painting, and your work is as good as hers, charge the same or less. In short, wing it. Wish there was a better answer than that. I know when it comes to freelancing, it's all over the place. @Robert I just checked our database, and Mike has the first issue and nothing else. Is it good?

I missed the whole Olivia Munn thing completely. I keep hearing/reading the name and hearing how hot she is but when I see pics of of her I don't think she's that impressive. That's a fair system but I'm still blown away by the prices some artist charge and get for their work. I guess you've got to be gutsy/confident enough to believe in your work to price it high. Even though I'm an artist I really don't get or appreciate some types of art and can't understand what makes some pieces worth thousands when others aren't worth 50 bucks. The fine arts world has always been a bit of a mystery to me.

Keep at it, price what feels right, and if it's worth more, someone will make you aware of that. If you're still interested in comics you can go to Amazon and eBay and get trades pretty cheap. The cool thing with trades is you get a whole story arc to read at once without waiting for the next issue to come out. You'd probably be surprised how much better stuff is now overall.
I just threw away my issues of VAMPS about a month ago in my annual comic purging. It was okay from what I remember but didn't live up to my expectations in writing or art. Hey, what do you think of the female characters from DC and Marvel? Any favs? How do you feel about a character like Wonder Woman who is fairly iconic to most non-comic readers but until very recently DC couldn't make her work.I only draw/paint for fun these days and not often enough. One New Year's resolution I made is to draw/paint more. I'm more of an illustrator type. I don't think I could ever be the fine artist who paints/draws what they want and gets people to buy it. To make it in that arena takes a strange combo of showmanship, marketing, arrogance, connections, luck and BS. Talent usually isn't a big factor. Sometimes it is but not usually that I can see.
I know quite a few people that do like Draxxx uggested and just gets the trades out of Barnes and Noble and such that collects a bunch of the issues or an entire storyline into one purchase. The ones that I really loved were the 2 Ghost Rider that were available during my comic phase, ROM, Darkhawk, The Silver Surfer, Spiderman 2099 and Superman. Now that last one is hard to nail because there have been so many of them but I'd say the one in the 80's.

I'm not sure if you're a fan of E.T but if you are then you should take a look at Super 8 because it has the soul of E.T. It's been years since I've seen the Last Drgaon. Maybe it's a sign of the times but I've seen very few raunchy teen comedies in the last few years. Most of the raunchy comedies these days seem to be less targeting teens and young adults and more targeting an older crowd. The two Hangover movies and last years Bridesmaids are definetely for an older audience. Many of the recent teen sex comedies seem to be more cruel than actually funny and the common theme seems to be promiscuity is great and should be experimented by all. Sex in the original teen comedies was the Holy Grail for the protagonist. He spent the entire movie trying to score with the main girl. When you have comedies like Friends with Benefits or No strings attached then love becomes the actual Holy Grail of the movie and not the sex. Now some might argue that these movies were being targeted to a older audience than teens but the choice of players makes me think otherwise. Not Another Teen Movies was a really well done teen comedy. The vibrating dildo scene is a classic that has to be seen. Who would have thought that a young Chris Evans would make is big screen debut. There are plenty of young stars that went on to bigger and better things after that movie.
SUPERBAD was a good movie in the vein of the raunchy teen comedies of the past. But like Clayra said today's movies are all about appealling to the biggest audience, which means going for the most profit. It seems that teens and young adults are the biggest demograpghic for movies and it seems that crowd is too young or don't have much interest in the raunchy stuff. It seems that applies to any sort of sexy movies or movies with much nudity. The only teen sex comedies that come out these days are those horrible Stright to DVD NATIONAL LAMPOON movies.
^This is where taste can vary a lot because I saw Superbad only once and I will probably never watch it again. The only parts I really laughed were the ones with Fogell and the 2 cops. It could be a generational thing because I'm in my 40's and this type of humour is meant for a significantly younger audience.
