Any UK porn forms in the group? I get most of my films through ads on newsgroups, can anyone recommend a decent supplier in the UK?

I'd rather get titles from a UK supplier, as I could do without customs telling me that i'm not allowed to watch xxx title.

Not looking for anything weird just decent titles from the likes of Platinum X and Redlight District.

Apart from Ebay, are there any decent auction sites for the UK?

xxx_fan,
I used to use Your Choice for VHS but once I got into DVD, I haven't used them since, so it's not an up-to-date recommendation.
Expensive but reliable. Post within the UK, by recorded delivery.
Also Simply the Best, post within the UK.
I don't know off hand if either of these stores stock exactly what you're after.
I don't know of auction sites in the UK.

Personally, I'd suggest that you have very little to worry about when ordering from overseas if you read over the posts in this forum and stick to the suppliers who get a good write up. You can save a fair bit of money and get the latest releases faster etc etc.

www.oxdvds.com ship from the UK. I've used them a few times - quite expensive, although they have sale items. At the moment there's 21 Red light titles (£18-21) but no Platinum X. Ship nice n quick too.

www.simplythebest.com also ship from the UK. Again Red Light stuff, but no Platinum X.

Happy shopping

I can't see customs stopping anything from Redlight or Platinum X. I've ordered quite a number of dvds from the states and although I've had about 30% of the packages opened, and sometimes had to pay duty on larger shipments, I've never had anything seized.
I did once have a couple of post office workers coyley ask me about my package when I went to collect it! I'd had several packages in a couple of weeks and one of the guys behind the counter went and fetchwed his mate who said something along the lines of "Er, these packages of yours, er, how much do they cost then? Is it cheaper than over here?".

Thanks for the feedback people.

I will give 'stateside' a go as they have 'I Like It Rough #2' which I really want to see.

erodvd.nl have a decent range and good prices. Service in MY experience has ranged from breath takingly good to extremely poor. Approx 75/25 in favour of good or better.

Yourchoice are reliable, decent range but WAAAAAAYYYY to expensive - often DOUBLE the price of erodvd - it amazes me they are still in business.

What US suppliers do UK based people on here use and reccomend ?

I have only ever used Jaded - who seem to be OK reasonable if not spectacular prices (better if u order say 3 DVD's than just 1) and a very wide range.

Stef,
I usually stick to Dvdboxoffice, fair prices, postage free & they ship your stuff seperatly so you never get charged by customs :) I do use other US suppliers though, Lasers Edge, Five Star etc..

xxx_fan: I think you're going to be paying a premium to get titles shipped from within the UK. I've used stateside and they are fine and reliable, and ship from the UK, but aren't that cheap. I don't know of any others that sell non-R18s with UK dispatch. Let us all know if you find some.

Personally, as many people in this forum will agree, it's most unlikely you'll have a problem importing from US and Europe. It really is worth taking the tiny risk in order to save plenty of money.

jamesuk: I use xodvds.com (what I think you meant) but I don't think they dispatch from within the UK - my shipments from them come in from Holland. Is it an optional extra?

erodvd.nl look very good and dead cheap, £13 for the latest Platinum X titles aint bad at all. If only they had 'I Love It Rough 2'.

I'll place a order tommorow and see if they are any good.

It's a thread that is always placed at the top of the list of threads in a forum - usually because it contains useful information that is commonly asked for, just as in this case.

If you go to the list of threads in the International Shopping forum, you should see the first thread is called "International Shopping Guide". Take a read through.

They are located in Holland (and also Italy), but they post orders to UK customers from within the UK! Your Choice are also based in Holland but ship to UK customers from inside the country. Getting the goods into the UK and sending them on again is, in part, an explanation of why you pay a premium, as Timotei says, for shipping inside the UK.

I feel I should reiterate Timotei's advice about reading the sticky thread "International Shopping Guide" - it would save duplicating the same sort of topics. There's plenty of advice about good suppliers in there.

My current tip: Adult DVD Today.

Last time I ordered from Stateside about 3 weeks ago I had 5 shows (2x Plat X and 2x Zero Tolerance plus one of their special offer £1 RLD shows) and it worked out at just over £20 each and I had the order within 5 days by special delivery post. I reckon that was pretty good when I compare it with any other suppliers that ship from within the UK.

The only RLD I could find on STB were relicensed Night Trip shows and I understand these have been precut/censored to obtain R18 ratings so they can also be sold in the UK and I really only buy original studio stuff.

I have been looking for the xodvd link someone gave but it comes up as 'cannot find' does someone have the correct link? Do they ship from within the UK?

No, they ship from Holland.

They can be found at www.xodvds.com and the prices are occasionally good, sometimes high, but the service is excellent and delivery quick.

Harmonyxxx only sell cut R18 shows which are of no interest to me and many others I would have thought.

Virtually all the R18 Red Light shows available have been precut by the producers or at the BBFC, that's crazy. Give me the real item any day!

I can't comment specifically about Night Trip, but STB sell lots of uncut titles which would not get an R18 certificate, with dispatch from within the UK.

Hi mate

well to be honest do NOT be fooled about customs, i regulally use www.fivestardvd.com and www.lasersedge.com

they are BOTH in the USA and shipping to UK isnt a problem, also they are 50 % cheaper than the UK (usually) so i wont hesitate and buy from the UK as u get ripped off.

Very fast, discreet international service via Global Priority Mail ($4.95 for up to 5 discs, $9.95 for up to 15, I think), money off coupons and they are in the Kickback scheme too.

I don't know how you can tell a movie has been pre-cut, but is does seem, even from a quick glance at a few David Luger titles on the BBFC website, that there have indeed been plenty of cuts imposed by the BBFC on RLD for abusive sex (gagging during oral), references to underage sex and even changes to titles. All of which seems pretty pathetic, I know, but it does make you wonder that if this sort of thing has to be cut in the UK, how would Customs view an imported copy if it does feature such "unacceptable" content?

Yep it is not difficult for UK customs all they need to do is a simple search on the BBFC website for the title and if cuts have been made they can seize the title in question and everything else in the package I understand no matter what the accompanying material is!

Most of the cuts however are for scenes the BBFC feel are 'potentially' obscene/criminal!!!

Also technically importation of uncertificated shows is illegal according to this taken from the UK Video Recording Act -

----------------------------------------------------------

It is legal to import foreign DVDs for the sole use of the importer. However, consumers should be aware that if an unclassified video or DVD is purchased within the UK via a non-UK website, the arrival of that video or DVD in the UK constitutes part of a 'supply' within the meaning of the VRA. Although you will not be liable to prosecution (provided that the work is not obscene or otherwise illegal), Customs and Excise are entitled to seize any unclassified videos and DVDs ordered from abroad because the 'supply' of unclassified works to consumers within the UK is illegal under the VRA.

----------------------------------------------------------

Make of that what you will!!!!!

I for one do not trust those customs wankers, I really find it hard to believe that if a government official in the UK opens a package and finds a DVD entitled something like say 'Anal loving Teens' or 'Barely Legal' and even sends it on that my name will not go down on some list somewhere!

I have a feeling that this is something of a grey area, certainly where the suppling country is another EC member. If I recall correctly, the R18 policy of only allowing sales in licensed shops and the simple truth that you can't excpect a foreign company to submit its titles to the UK for classification (and potentially every other EC member state it wishes to trade in) means that the impositions you mention would likely contravene the trade sections of the Maastricht treaty by not allowing other EC member states companies a chance to sell their products in the UK. As well as the bizarre fact that this legitimises non-UK based mail order porn sales to the UK whilst banning UK companies from doing the same, it also has led to Customs having to rationalise the way they handle imported films. Having followed closely many letters sent to customs and their replies (via the melonfarmers.co.uk site) it seems that they use the BBFC decisions and acceptability criteria as their guide when it comes to seizing material. Presumably the theory is that this is then allowing a level playing field for other EC member states and their companies. As far as I'm aware none of this applies to non-EC countries so I suppose your US sourced orders are always up for grabs, although I've had several opened and never had one seized yet.

I accept what you say that customs can easily look up and see if a title has been cut for UK release but I wonder if most of the time they can really be bothered. All the dvds I have had from the States have come through Mt Pleasant customs which must be far too busy to start looking into every DVD they come across.

Grey area is an understatement!!!

But government restrictions in Germany seem to also create an unfair market ie it is illegal to send/buy porn via the post this prevents fair cross border trading which must also be in conflict with the Treaty of Rome. Unlike the UK situation the question of content does not come into it! This appears very similar to the VRA as regards you can only buy hardcore from a shop, do any German members know if this has ever been challenged?

Also does anyone know the situation in Spain as all the DVDs that originate there seem to carry a Minstry of Culture ref nr, is this similar to the BBFC.

I have used simply the best many times, but find that most of the dvds where dispatched from spain. The cases where sent from England, so where the covers. They also send you out a credit card letter detailing what you have ordered. This has always been posted from spain. I always got my dvds in about 2-3 weeks.

R18s can be shipped from other e.c countries to Britain. This is really stupid as British companies are losing out.
i used to buy from here:

http://www.taboo.co.uk/adult_dvds.html

but they had to stop shipping from inside britain. They now ship from Holland . I havent used them though. They explain the case here.

Also why is it that both 18+ and R18 films are strictly for adults only yet all the mail order restricted are only on R18s. Does this mean that the BBFC dont really mean adults only for 18+ certificates.

Oh, I meant to mention with regard to points raised by Sir Noel and Jesus that, while I can't be 100%, I have a funny feeling that there's provision in European legislation for individual member states to make restrictions to free trade on moral grounds, hence the restrictions in the porn trade (to protect the kiddies) in the UK and Germany are not restrictions on free trade per se. I could be wrong, of course. Anyway, I am supposed to be moderating this and keeping you lot on topic, so get back to discussing porn vendors in the UK...

You're not wrong Gabriel!

Ireland (as I stated in another post) don't allow porn to be imported, that is if Irish Customs find any in the post and it's because of this OPT OUT option by individual member states. You can buy porn DVDs in sex shops here, but they are "strictly" illegal too, but the government and the police here don't close them down -- wonder who gets the backhanders here??? -- at least until they are compelled to raid them infrequently, and then only looking for child porn or stuff in other touchy areas. i heard that they normally give the stuff confiscated back to the shops, but don't quote me on that.

A friend of mine contacted the Irish Censors to enquire about various topics and it seems that a title can't be legally sold here in Ireland unless it has been certified and since no porn titles are referred for certification, they can't be legal here. But they are being openly sold, so huh!!!

it's aconfusing mess here, but no one has the balls to actually challenge the law here as against European Fair Trade laws, mainly because the sex shops here can sell their tapes and DVDs for double, triple or more than you can get them on the net. Some DVDs in my local sex shop go for 110 euros and some of these may be shitty LEISURE TIME discs that you could buy online for less than a tenner. The mai problem is people here are prepared to pay these prices because there is nothing else (for them at least) and the shops can get away with it....

And those of ye in the UK, think ye have problems getting porn.......

I know people in this forum have had trouble with Erodvd.nl before but I've placed 3 orders from them and the have all come through , the only niggle is when one or more disc's are out of stock then I've had to e-mail Aline a few time to remind her.
Have just checked out European Erotique and statesidedvd.com , but at £24.95 the films are too expensive , my last order from erodvd was for 3 platinum x and 3 zero tolerance the total was £80.00 from European Erotique and stateside it would have been £149.70.

Cykedout,
The situation you describe is not really comparable with the UK. As you state yourself the sex shops are trading these films illegally. Clearly the situation in Ireland is similar to that which existed in the UK prior to the BBFC creating the R18 category when it was perfectly acceptable for the UK to stop imports (on the moral grounds mentioned) on the grounds that those goods were banned in the UK.

That still doesn't solve anything though so I'm going to find out the answer to all of this and get back to you all.

SNP.
