| oz boy New Member 3 Posts 6/01 | Hello all, I am located in Australia and was wanting to purchase some DVD's. Has anyone out there had any trouble with Australian customs. Also I was wondering if anyone could give me there experiences with placing orders with Fivestar DVD or DVD advantage. Are they good with international order or not? Anyone out there??? Please help. Thanks Oz Boy [edited the header as this thread also discusses ADN's shipping to Aust]

It seems divadee are no longer going, which is a shame, they were cheap and prompt and had a good range, and I had no customs problems. I've ordered one DVD since from a US vendor*, and the * - five star DVD, I ordered a copy of "When Rocco Meats |

| scipio Senior Member 1901 Posts 2/00 | I'm located in Melbourne and know how our customs works pretty well, as I have a friend who has worked there for years, and spent a time in Australian Customs Postal Operations (where they check stuff). As long as you do not order anything that is illegal or suspect: ie rape/underage/animals/shitting/pissing you will not have any trouble. It's perfectly legal for people to import adult dvds for their own use. Be aware though that Customs -do- know what they are looking for, there's a series of Adult Anime called Cool Devices by NuTech (that seems to be crap and unpleasant anyway) that has a lot of rape themes running through the discs. I have heard a report of these being confiscated. If they open one of your parcels and see you have something like that, they WILL impound your order. On the other hand, if you just have regular adult DVDs (meaning anything I have not mentioned above) then there will be no problems. In the many orders I have placed from overseas, I've had quite a few opened by customs and no problems at all. Good rule of thumb: if you think it's suspect, it probably is. (though feel free to ask on the forums "has anyone ordered XYZ? any problems?" I've never used DVD Advantage, though I have used Fivestar. They at one point had some problems with their shipping company, but this seems to have been fixed up, and certainly was in my case. They have excellent Customer Service and these days get the majority of my overseas business. (If only they carried mainstream titles as well!) I have had DVDs go missing in the international post, both mainstream and adult. I've found adult companies to be far more helpful than mainstream ones in general, though I've always been able to work something out. And I've ordered a LOT of dvds from overseas. Regarding Reekian's Post: I've found most Australian suppliers to be horrifically overpriced. You'll find a title that fivestar has for US$10 on an average Australian site for AU$50-70. Of course the US$28 titles are also this price but I don't like being gouged. Of course your shipping and such should be easier and cheaper, but I personally prefer to order from overseas. The only exception to this was one company who was selling all their adult DVDs at a flat rate of AU$40. They're in the interim of moving at the moment so not currently trading (not sure if they sell outside of Australia). I chose to buy the majority of my Private titles from them as it was indeed faster and easier as well as cheaper. On the other hand, their non-private stuff suffered fromt he same problem as other .au sites. ie seeing something in the states for US$10 and on their site for AU$40 when (if) they come back I'll let the forum know about it. I'm sure Mantiz would appreciate them as well. :) Well that's enough long-windedness from me in one post. Hope some of that is actually useful to someone.. cheers, scipio

| scipio Senior Member 1901 Posts 2/00 | The only way I can see customs getting hold of one of ADN's orders is if they opened -all- of your international mail as it came in, a la the former East Germany, which doesn't happen here in Australia. I just got my most recent ADN order this morning and it was packaged even more anonymously than their previous method (which was pretty anonymous). With their current 15% off ADT coupon and most recent postage restucturing, ADN are well worth ordering from. I'll be making another very soon. Between these guys and 5-star, I'm quite happy. Not to sound like an ad for ADN guys and 5-star, but when I'm happy with a company I make noise, just as when I'm unhappy I make noise.. cheers, scipio |
| mollila New Member 5 Posts 6/01 | I chose to buy two out-of-stock items, and they were both promptly backordered and mailed to me in europe. Good communication on the status of the order at all stages, and the envelope was marked to contain items valued less than the order total so the package wouldn't be caught in the customs. I'll fondly recommend them. Edited by - mollila on Jul 9 2001 |

| Meridian Member 155 Posts 8/01 | Any chance there could be problems? |
| scipio Senior Member 1901 Posts 2/00 | The transit time on the order was just over a week, which was about the same as the order I placed after my last post up there. Using the worldmail option takes about the 10 days stated on your webpage. It seems one of my emails sent to the info@addvd.com address has gone walkabouts, as I haven't yet recieved a reply from about 2 weeks ago.. I recall another address being mentioned in these forums having much more success.. what was that one? I've just placed a new order with you, and as I need to get several of the titles in it pretty quickly, and preferably sealed (so they don't look *cough*pre-viewed*cough*) for a friend's birthday gift, I've used the Airbourne Express option, so will let you know how that goes, speed-wise. (there should be no customs problems, being 1) Australia 2) Airbourne Express w/tracking, etc.) cheers, scipio |
| scipio Senior Member 1901 Posts 2/00 | The Airbourne order arrives safe and sound Monday afternoon, by the look of things it would have arrived Sunday afternoon but Airbourne (at least here in .au) don;t deliver on Sundays. Speed of delivery was pretty good, not that much better than GPM, but I certainly felt -secure- about the order. They shipped all the titles in their sealed Cases (per my specific request) which was really good as well. Overall I'm pretty happy with the service, so much so that I might make all my future ADN orders of any value via Airbourne. scipio |
