I know I read this question here in the Forum a couple of times, so instead of answering it a couple of times, here it is...
Saki probably gave the best answer, when it comes to having to pick and choose, companies choose their favorites, which often means the ones that made them the most money on VHS.
As to why we have to pick and choose, a lot of companies were in business a LONG time before DVDs came around. Here at Evil Angel, we had a couple hundred or so videos that haven't been put onto DVD. So we have to decide whether to concentrate on doing simultaneous releases or going back and doing some of our "classic" videos.
We're going to try to do a little of both.
The problem is figuring out at what point the market would become saturated. If we wanted to, we could transfer all of our vids onto DVD, but how would we work release schedules? We can't very well call up our distributors and ask them to buy 200 "new" DVDs over the next 2-3 months. We think anything over 8 a month would be too many for us. Since we have 7 directors, that doesn't leave a whole lot of room to do both classic releases and simultaneous.
At our estimation, we'll have most of our best prior videos transfered within a year or two, and in the meantime, if we have a NEW video we absolutely love, we'll get the DVD on that out much quicker.
(ie- Ultimate Guide to Anal Sex for Women is already out, and Buttman's Anal Show may come out sometime this year)
Hope that kind of explains things a little.
