I've got a Nikon Coolpix 2100 that's about a year old, and so is the Compact Flash card that came with it. I've used the same card over and over, and just delete the pictures that I don't like.

It seems like I'm getting more blurry pictures lately. Could it be that the card is starting to go bad? Is it time for me to put a new one in? The card is made by Lexar, and is says on it that it's a Nikon starter card, and that it's 8x speed rated.

CF cards are really cheap these days. I'd buy another just to see. I have four cards that I really use and have for years - I take a ridiculous amount of photos when I shoot.

Cold weather affects the quality of my pics as does battery freshness.

with digital cameras image quality is only dependant on the camera not the "film" (aka memory card.) I'd bet that either the camera is dirty or damaged. Are there any good camera stores around that can give the optics of your camera a good cleaning?

I believe the only need for a faster memory card is when you get into burst modes (photos taken in rapid succession). Check your manual for any requirements.

Memory has dropped a bunch over the last year. Best Buy's prices are generally high to average. That should be the worst you can do without much effort. I'm sure some of the American ADT members can point you towards cheap and reliable online vendors. (note, buying memory from camera stores is generally expensive)

In a previous job I designed compact flash memory cards. As of 7 years ago the flash memory chips used in these cards were rated for a minimum 100,000 write cycles before they started dropping bits. (Yes Flash chips can wear out.) We did some endurance testing of our own and found that most manufacturer's chips would go upwards of 1 million write cycles before dropping bits. Most of the controller chips used in CF cards use some form of Error Correction Code and wear leveling algorithms which extends the useful life of the card to well beyond 5 million write cycles.

I'd look at cleaning the camera's optics.

Lexar was actually formed by the company that I worked for. They purchased the memory controller division of Cirrus Logic and hired some of Cirrus' senior engineers and marketing folks. The resulting business became Lexar Media.
