You really can't tell until you try them. The owners manual for my new Panasonic say's that is plays -R and specifically says that is cannot play +R. But I know for certain that +R discs play fine on it.[Link] |

Usually -R are "more" compatible, while +R usually give higher quality burns. but its way too hardware dependant/specific to make any real determination. The important thing is to use quality media, wheter they be -R or +R.[Link] |

i'd learn how to change the booktype field(bitsetting) on +r discs. it's the best you can do for compatibility and +r is pulling away in speed. the problem with the minus side of things is how it prewrites data during the lead-in. +r doesn't have this problem on a physical level, get a drive that lets you write dvd-rom and -r booktypes on +r media and you eliminate the compatibility problems with + media and the flawed lead-in of -r.[Link] |

I have looked at the manual, the Panasonic site and the sites offered and do not see any more about the PAL/NTSC or the -R, +R info. I am mainly wanting to play PAL in the +R format... I think. I can get the DVDs I want in any format, but would like the best possible playback quality as long as I am able to chose..as long as I can play the damn things. I know I may be stupid, but what would seem to be pretty basic, easy to locate specs is seeming difficult.

VideoHelp.comWhat I would do is go nab a few +/- RWs and test em... Most players that will play the Rs will play RWs, but thats not a 100% fact. [Link] |

does this or this help?I'd assume that recorder takes only DVD-R and DVD-RW as they'd have +R displayed prominently in the description.
