Comparison of media players

I thought this was an interesting reference. Not that it was hard to find, just thought I'd share.

Didn't know it's existence: great list, thanks for sharing.

To see this statistics to be of 'reference', it should include a comparison of to what effect these players play 'media' IMHO (nice core-info on that to be found eg. here). A statistic in the "Car 2006 Yearbook" doesn't tell me anything on the driving-experience of named cars either...

Thanks for that forum link p_n. I just got sucked into reading about AAC and MP3.

Hmm, there are several errors (or just outdated info maybe) in what plays what and why the hell do they include codecs and players that are not being developed anymore and nobody uses?

It is on wikipedia after all, you could update it.

Though it probably wouldn't be worth your time.

I just want to know why there are so many codecs that do essentially the same fuckin' thing but differently enough that if you can't find a copy of the right obscure codec for whatever it is you want to play, you're screwed? Well, not completely. There's usually a workaround but it really shouldn't be necessary to go looking all over the damn place just to figure out how to play a fuckin' video.

Hi,

like so often, RandomPrecision hit the nail on the head. It totally sucks. I´m just glad there´s VLC and MPC

Those 2 should do about every trick ... if you got the latest version that is.
