It would blow. I can't whole-heartedly say I would completely stop watching, but my interest level in porn would decrease by about 89.997% Sex wasn't meant to involve condoms. Legislators should quit being chickenshit moralists and let sex be sex. Of course there will be the occasional HIV outbreak, but that was a risk anyone in the business was knowingly taking. AIM healthcare has done an amazing job in keeping the sex clean, and the performers healthy. So let's just keep it the way it is. Maybe Mickey Mouse should quit brain-fucking the public and let people decide for their-own-goddamned-selves.
Well, we'll find out just how many people really do hate condoms in porn. However, I doubt that the UN will be mandating condom porn in the near future, so the folks in Germany, France, Italy and Britain, at least, will keep on with business as usual. If California rules for mandatory condoms it will have a negative effect on the industry in that state. I say that given the vociferous hatred of condoms expressed by some people in these forums. However 'the porn industry' will survive, as it has done for thousands of years. One thing is for sure, and that is that some folks will get around the rules to deliver a product people are willing to pay good money for. You'd think government had learned that lesson with Prohibition, but apparently there will always be fools out there who believe that political correctness trumps reality.
^ As a native Northern-Californian speaking: Fuck California. Porn will do what needs to do to maintain consumer demands. Nevada is looking pretty appealing these days...
Well most of the movies I've seen from Adam and Eve use condoms. Vivid does a lot of them too. If done right it works. But the girls gotta be hot. The guys can just pull the condom off, just before they cum. Condoms should be mandatory for anal sex though. You can never really get it 100% clean down there, and it endangers both the female, and male actors. The males would have to urinate right after the act, if not wearing a condom, so the ammonia in the urine will kill off any bacteria from the girls anus. Same for the girls, if the guys are switching and alternating, between vaginal and anal sex.
I have to admit I'm a little conflicted here. I prefer no condom in porn. Porn sex is a great fantasy, and condoms are clumsy, and it hurts the fantasy for me a little bit. But, I can understand why performers would want them, and because I'm a consumer, I support performers' safety. If California makes this law, I would guess a lot of productions would shoot elsewhere. And if the whole US made it law, some of us would get used to watching porn with condoms, and some of us would get it from overseas. I think there will always be a demand for barrier-free porn.
I don't care if condoms are used. The only time I care is when a) there isn't enough lube (which is a general complaint anyway - I wish movies would not edit out the lubing), and b) flesh-coloured condoms are used (which means a wide variety of flesh colours). I have seen movies where they used ridiculous colours, like blue, and it just made the whole thing distracting. Other times I haven't even noticed the condom because it so perfectly matched the skin. So, in short, I think the performer's safety is important -- it might be a fantasy for the viewer, but it's a job for the sex worker. To dismiss the whole issue by saying it's just a fantasy is a little insulting.
I've said it on other threads that I have no problem with condom sex. I'm not aware of any statistics but how many performers left the business because they contracted an STD? I think that condoms protect the health of performers and that is a good thing. Of course porn might consider moving operations to another State or Overseas but what one State does may very well be implemented in any other State and moving porn to France would be a waste of time because condoms are almost mandatory in all shoots. I'vw seen enough French made porn to say that it's quite rare to not see them whenever there is going to be penetration. If anyone is a member of some Kink's sites then you already know that some shoots have condoms in them.
I totally agree that the performer's safety is important. It's not my intention to be dismissive; quite the opposite. It's a major issue in the industry. Gracie's question exposes my own conflict. It's a good, honest question, and I tried to answer it honestly, offering an explanation as to why I felt that way. That said, I can see how a sex worker might be insulted by viewers disregarding the performers safety for their own enjoyment. I don't know if Gracie can answer, but I would like hear her thoughts on the subject.

Nothing major would happen, for the most part very few changes would take place. 1 of 3 things would happen. 1, it'd move to Nevada which is 45 minutes from LA on Southwest. 2. Porn companies wouldn't be quite so visible in public. 3. Larry Flynt/Hustler would argue it unconstitutional before the Supreme Court.
I didn't mean for my response to be directed solely at you -- the idea that porn is "just a fantasy" is thrown around by lots of people to justify lots of different things. In fact, I found your response refreshingly honest.
We'd just deal with. The upside would be the directors/cameramen might be forced to (finally) stop relying on the genital close-ups as their bread and butter. The penis-centric nature of porn might lessen. Porn might become centered on the women instead of centered on the penis. Maybe. Maybe the rejection of condom porn will mean more all-girl porn and more solo girl porn. We can only hope.
Porn is fantasy. Somewhat unpleasant realities like condoms have no place in porn. If porn ever became condom only I would lose interest in all new porn and just watch old stuff.

I'm going to start out my response by stating that people see what they want, or expect, to see, to defend positions that they may take. And I'm no different. In my experience, condoms have a very profound effect on the quality of scenes, not just how they look. They inhibit erections. They act almost as an astringent and inhibit natural lubrication for the female performer, requiring even more start and stop situations. They delay the signal that goes out when a guy is reaching the point of no return. I'm not a creampie maven, but it would totally eliminate that particular genre. Further, while not a scientist, I do remember that nature abhors a vacuum, meaning that demand for bareback sex would be met somehow, no matter what California decrees. I would speculate that the first group to break ranks on this would be the performers themselves, offering things on their personal websites that can't be made available any other way. Might be a boon to the rank and file after all. I'm all for more stringent testing, and even more for personal choice in what we all do.

I would learn to live with it. Honestly so much no-condom porn has been made at this point that it would not be a big deal to me if future porn is condom only.
Porn is definately fantasy, condoms I can get at home, and while I agree that any job should be as safe as possible, if you dont feel comfortable with your working conditions, get another job, If there is anyone that can honestly say, sat there with their johnson in their hands, that at the moment of truth they thought "I really hope they practised safe sex on that set" I'll show my ass from the town hall steps, and thats not a pretty sight.
If porn goes condom, I go without new porn. I don't have a massive stash of no condom porn like some people do but I've got maybe ten years left before I won't be jerking off more than once a week. If that. Porn with condoms is utterly worthless. If I see a rubber I'm not paying a dime for it. If I even think there are rubbers in it, I'm just plain not buying it (and haven't for years). So far, this is still America. Customers always have a choice. Even if the only option is not to buy at all. I wouldn't pay for food specifically designed to make me puke. Why would I pay for porn that's deliberately made to turn me off? There's always amateur stuff. And if the California porn industry decides to go this way, the door will be wide open for anyone who can deliver the product that people actually want. By the way, I'd like to know if anyone knows anyone who actually buys the censored Japanese porn? And I mean habitually. Not just a title every couple of years or so. Does anyone pay good money for censored porn? And that's exactly what mandatory condoms are. It's censored porn. And I do know there is some Japanese porn that isn't censored but enough of it is that I'd have to check to see which kind it was before I'd buy it. I get it that you really don't like to see condoms in porn but you are stretching your comparaison when saying that pixelated JAV porn is the same as condoms. In Jav porn you wouldn't know if the guy is wearing a condom because you can't see anything. I'm sure the people who buy Jav porn with pixelation would rather be able to see the action but since it's still rare to find unpixelated jav porn then they've learned to deal with it.
Condoms have exactly the same effect as a big honkin' mosaic on people who want to see the actual sex. Again, it is censored porn. It's not a stretch. It's a fact.
Yeah? I don't know anyone who buys it. Do you? I don't think anyone has learned to deal with it. I think some people are willing to live with it to start out with and others just plain don't bother. People like me don't learn to deal with unacceptable merchandise. We just don't buy it. If I live to be 100, I won't pay money for porn utterly ruined by rubbers. In the past I have made concessions and lowered my standards a bit because in the end, it wasn't completely unacceptable. This is. They will have finally found something I won't accept if they go here. Edited by - randomprecision on 4/25/2011 10:16:18 PM
Shipping companies may start charging by the day for space on their ships in international waters. One ship could hold dozens of shoots. Porn could be much more dangerous then, where body disposal is convenient and escape is a long swim to shore.
Depends on the stipulations, such as will there be defining clauses of what can, or cannot occur post nut? As consequential props, condom cocktails are tailormade for character development, or equally useful as plot thickening devices. Alternately it could flip the annoying practice of fake cumshots on its ass, by declaring any direct cumshots or residual puddles, are merely convincing margarita mixers, placing any cum latent anus er onus squarely on those charged with enforcing the mandate, to discern, and disseminate what is, or is not, absolute conclusive insemination. Japan is a very good comparison here. I am one of those people that regularly buy JAV. I buy it for the greater production values, excellent directing, clever themes and story lines and some of the most beautiful women in the world doing porn. I think going condom-only will kill off gonzo porn as we know it in the US, and I believe that can only be a good thing for the consumer. It would force the industry to be creative and offer a different and higher quality product. Hopefully it would encourage more attractive women and minor celebrities to dabble in porn - like what happens in JAV. If you really crave badly shot gonzo porn, Europe will always provide a market for that niche.

Condom porn sucks balls...it's one of my few gripes about Wicked's product...the porn industry should do what the mainstream movie industry did years ago and start filming mainly outside of California...as someone who lived 15yrs in Las Vegas I say move there and give the state all that revenue you could generate...California blows ass in every possible way...
You're kidding, right? What will happen is that people will start getting real porn from wherever they can and that will drive the quality down even more. As long as it's uncensored, people will gladly take that over the censored stuff.
Actually, I've seen some well shot gonzo from Europe that blows most American gonzo away. I don't know when it was made or if it's typical of Euro porn but it was great stuff. And it was uncensored. Condoms were the last things on the minds of those people. But maybe we define "well shot" differently. I define it as simply using good lighting and capturing what I want to see well. I rarely see anything that's shot well from the US. Or Japan either. Censorship isn't part of my definition of good production values. Maybe we could look to Soviet era Russian porn for a good example of porn rules dictated by government?
Believe me, there's a ton of bad Euro porn out there. Also, I think there was a movement in France to make condoms the norm some years ago, but it fizzled out. Walter Burns would know the details.
The finish product may be a fantasy, but that's a real penis going into a real vagina. Fans' greedy disregard for performers' safety is depressing to say the least.
I don't care if they WANT to use condoms. I ain't buying it if they do but I have no problem with it if it's volentary. It's the mandatory condom thing that gets me. That they HAVE TO use rubbers whether they want to or not. That's my sticking point. It's not merely that I'm unconcerned with the safety of performers. Porn was never supposed to be a safe "workplace" to start with. Nobody ever promised these people they would be 100% safe working in a business where having unprotected sex is what you're expected to do from the instant you sign up for it. This is what the product is supposed to be. This is what the vast majority of customers expect it to be. By going condom only, they would be completely changing the fundamental nature of the product. It's not like putting a hardhat on the guy who puts soles on the shoes in a factory in Taiwan. The customer who buys those shoes doesn't care if the guy was wearing a hardhat. It doesn't change the product a bit. He'll wear those shoes every day and never think about a factory worker in a hardhat. When I'm sitting here trying to get my rocks off to movies of people having sex, it kind of matters if they're not actually having real, uncensored sex. Frankly, you're probably reading this post on a computer that was (in some small way or another) produced by someone who was just plain exploited. Never had a choice. Nobody cares about their health or how many hours a week they work or whether they even get paid. But we keep having this ridiculous debate here in a country where you have to make a conscious choice and effort to put yourself in the porn industry and you can walk away anytime. The "disregard I have for performers' safety" is the disregard I'd have for the safety of anyone who is knowingly doing something that's inherently risky. That's to say that it isn't really disregard for their safety. It's more like respect for their right to make the choice to do something that has to be a little bit risky if you want to do it right. People who feel it's too dangerous shouldn't be doing it or they should already be working for one of the companies that use condoms. This is the same old argument about the government knowing what's good for you better than you do repackaged as a "workplace safety" issue. Making these kinds of arguments about porn is a terrible idea and will end with us losing whatever is left of our right to enjoy it. Edit - And it's supposed to be a real penis going into a real vagina. Again, that's the product. As such, maybe calling porn a fantasy is a bit off. Maybe it's better to call it the realization of fantasies for a reasonable fee.

While the reasoning behind the action might piss you off, the bottom line is you aren't buying if a condom is on. So whether a performer is required to by law or chooses to for their own safety - you won't buy. Sounds like some disregard going on to me. But that's cool. I don't personally think less of you for it and I didn't mention anyone by name. It's just depressing that some people don't care. They can use their imaginations and transplant themselves into a scene, fuckin' some girl way out of their league with a dick much bigger than their own, but ignoring a condom - all of a sudden, they're brain dead simpletons. It's kinda lame.
Various occupations adapt to the conditions and hazards inherent to their work environment. I see no reason why this promiscuous corner of the entertainment industry, is necessarily, or unequivocally powerless to incorporate some responsible means to address the safety issues they face, without simply electing to impose those measures entirely upon the quality of their product, in order to solve them. Most occupations inherently dangerous, take it upon themselves, to adapt, and develop methods, sometimes specialized teams, or coordinated pairs, whereby every worker is taught to assume responsibility for their own safety, and particularly for how it relates to the safety of their partner or coworker. Rarely, if ever, have I heard such responsibility merely passed along or shoveled upon the personal interests, and conscience of their customers to bear.
You can't use Wicked as a good comparaison for condom porn because they are known for shooting porn that's geared more toward couples market. If Elegant Angel or Evil Angel shot a few condom porn movies then maybe you could use those for your argument. The movie industry started filming outside of California for only one reason...Money. When the cost of production on movies shot in california got so high that it was cheaper to film elsewhere then Studios started to look at other States and Countries. The later has probably won that particular war because many Hollywood movies are now shot in other Countries because it's so much cheaper to do that.
Sex with condoms is not porn at all. I do not see any reason to buy this bullshit. I would not take it for free. Our life is full of risks. What about firemen, stuntmen, autoracers, boxers and many others. We know. Unprotected sex is a risky behavior, but we love it. Porn is an industry for real men and women, who are ready to take the risk. I have a great respect for performers, who are working without condoms. If something is risky it not mean that it is bad, because these people give a lot of pleasure for porn fans. This is a wrong opinion that fans will not have a choice if condoms becomes mandatory. We have our old collections. We can buy porn at Europa, Brazil, Japan. I am ready to buy porn at Africa if this stuff will be condom-free.
Meanwhile most performers continue work without condoms, despite the risks and AHF activities. Thanks! Special thanks to the girls, who declared their support to real porn without condoms in interviews and forums: Nikki Sexx, Bree Olson, Angelina Armani, Sunny Lane, Brooke Banner, Ashly Orion and many others. If we stopped doing everything that was dangerous our lives wouldn't be worth living.
lol condom problem? You people serious? I don't stare at the guy's dick and the close up of the penetration is the thing I fast forward the most when I watch porn. I watch it for the beautiful women. I want to see their faces and bodies. I would not give a crap if all scenes had to have condoms if that meant these people would be safer.
Well most of the movies I've seen from Adam and Eve use condoms. Vivid does a lot of them too. Not so much recently. Even Vapid I mean Vivid has quietly shifted from trumpeting their pro-condom stance to more and more bareback. (In the same way Obummer preserved tax cuts for the rich last December....backing down from his stance and hoping no one will notice.) lol Someone on this forum more or less confirmed that their (Vapid, VCA, Whacked, etc) sales dropped in half back in the Marc Wallice Dick of Death era. Especially when they beat their chest over condom mandatory. It was no accident that gonzo filled the gap and VCA, Wicked, Vapid etc lost quite a bit of market share. Someone argue with me that VCA more or less went out of business (bought by Hustler) because of plummetting sales due to condom mandatory. I will not buy condom movies. I didn't then (mid 90s) and won't now. I don't care if the self righteous chastise me for my "selfishness". I have plenty of back catalog to watch for years. Who the fuck wants to see Manuel Ferrara or Jules Jordan bust open a gape with a sandwich baggie on his cock. Yuck. No thanks. (Corben? say): If done right it works. But the girls gotta be hot. The guys can just pull the condom off, just before they cum. Condoms should be mandatory for anal sex though. You can never really get it 100% clean down there, and it endangers both the female, and male actors. Same for the girls, if the guys are switching and alternating, between vaginal and anal sex.

This is what the anti-porn feminists and fundamentalists want to see because they know video/scene sales would plummet. And Corben, the fallacy in your argument, is that the video companies who insist on condoms never show the erotic side of applying the condom. They just cut to porndude pumping away wrapped in a garbage bag. Like somehow the drooling mongoloids who buy porn won't notice. And then condom magically disappears to the......yawn,,., snzzzzzz, back, buttock or belly cumdump. The Ambien act of all porn.
I watch porn because I'm too lazy to fantasize. And I watch vicariously through the porn stud fucking these beautiful, pliant and willing lovelies. In my fantasies, I have Peter North's cock and wad; I can fuck for hours and not get a girl pregnant or diseased. Condoms is an intrusion of reality and sad reminder that we are all flawed and fallible. Fuck that. I give that anti-consumer bullshit the hairy eyeball. Condoms are weaksauce. Torris head Jihadi of the Anti-Condom Liberation Organization Anal-alluhu Akbar!
.and when they came for the Socialists. I said nothing ..and when they came for the clergy. I said nothing ....and when they came for the Jews. I said nothing. .....Then there was nobody left to come save me.
That would end up saving me a lot of money. As far as I'm concerned, it would be the same thing as if the porn industry shut down completely. I already have plenty of porn to watch without buying any more. So, I'd just watch what I already own. What if all fans only buy non-condom porn?. Talent & production don't have a choice?
So if a monogamous, disease-free couple wanted to shoot a condomless porn scene, they wouldn't be allowed to? That would really suck. Yeah, I tend to agree with many here that if the only porn sold were condom only, I'd never buy another porn movie.
IMO if condoms went mandatory, then I'm completely done watching any new porn, not because its going to be worse, but on the principal that you've taken away my option of watching sex without condom. That's where i draw the line. Take away my choice i choose to do without. ----Dread----
I probably watch more girl-girl porn than boy-girl anyway, so this would not be a big deal for me, unless they start requiring dental dams be worn for cunnilingus. Having said that, I think that the segment of the porn industry represented by directors like Nica Noelle would continue to thrive because their scenes don't depend on the insert-tube-A-into-hole-B (repeat) mentality of most gonzo porn. Don't get me wrong, I've filled a lot of tissue watching gonzo over the years and I wouldn't claim otherwise. But more and more lately, I'm being drawn to the work of directors and companies that focus on the passion and chemistry between the people in the scene; the directors who allow scenes to develop organically and the "stars" to just have sex with each other like normal people (normal people who look REALLY REALLY hot and who can go all night like lumberjacks). In that instance, condoms wouldn't make a whole lot of difference, as long as they were just treated as part of the scene. The good directors will find a way to turn a vice into a virtue, or at least I hope they will. The safety of performers ia another issue and not one that I have always spent a lot of time considering. Frankly, until I discovered ADT, I had very little interaction with anyone in the industry, other than one e-mail from a porn star whose work I had praised in the comment section of her website, and a very brief exchange of comments on a Yahoo group with another performer. It was easy to watch the images on the screen and not think of performers as people like me. Well, like me if I was a lot younger and much better looking with a big dick that actually worked when it was supposed to. But, I think you get what I mean. One of the benefits of this web site for me has been to humanize the people whose work I watch. I don't want any of them to get sick just so I can get off. I don't agree with the argument that many jobs have risks and the people who choose to be in risky jobs get paid. How much is a human life worth? We take worker safety seriously in factories, grocery stores, and many other pursuits -- even the NFL and NASCAR. Why shouldn't we take worker safety seriously in the porn industry? I think it's a question worth raising, and I don't expect everyone to agree, but we ought to at least give it some thought. Just my $.02 worth. Your mileage may vary. Caveat emptor. One man's ceiling is another man's floor. Yada, yada, yada...
^1. When they get an STD/I, it's not something they tell everyone, so it's not like you'll even know. 2. Life-threatening diseases are incredibly rare because of the extensive self-regulation in the industry. Honestly, I've never gotten why any group would pursue mandatory condom usage. And their arguments are even worse - "akin to making doctors wear rubber gloves." Spare me. This isn't a fucking doctor's office. Porn studios are not a public amenity. No stranger can walk into the Pornpros studio and shoot a scene with Lizz Tayler like it's a fucking clinic, literally. No one is putting the public at risk so it's not a public health hazard. If you ask me, it's either excessive nanny-state regulatory zeal or an underhanded means of abolishing porn production in California. As for what I'll do. I don't know, hope that American porn will find a way to prosper again in some other porn hub like Vegas or Tampa.
I'm supposed to be so concerned for others that I'll buy stuff I don't want and will never use? I didn't start buying porn for the health of the performers. I don't buy porn I can't use. Just like I don't buy certain fetishes that do nothing for me. Why would I? Is that disregard for the livelihood of the performers? You might be able to look at it that way if you're really that determined to twist it into something it's not. Should I spend a hundred dollars a pop just so a performer can work in the area of the industry she prefers? And I get to take the DVDs home and lay them on a shelf and never touch them again? It's not the reasoning behind the action. It's the nanny state saying "I'm going to make you do this whether you like it or not" that pisses me off. They're not just trying to dictate what I buy. They're trying to dictate to the people who make the things I buy. For their own good, naturally. The thing that pisses me off more than anything is that we can't even fuck the way we want to in this goddamn country.
First of all, most women are way out of my league. That's why I need porn in the first place. But these are mostly average looking girls. If I want to imagine myself having sex at all, I kind of have to put someone in there. I actually prefer the girls a lot of guys think are ugly so maybe that's my imagination telling me to stop making it work so damn hard. Next, I don't deliberately seek out male performers with huge cocks. As long as it's there and it works. I can't really tell how big it is by looking at it on a 19" computer monitor. A lot of the guys I watch don't appear to be much bigger than 8" to 10". I'm 7" so my imagination isn't exactly working overtime there. And besides that, cock size isn't something that really gets to me. Condoms do. I can't change that any more than I can explain it. It just is. Anyway, my imagination can only work on so many fronts and you can only be so blind to the blatantly obvious when you're watching something for 2 1/2 hours. You appear to literally be saying that I'm making this up. I wish I was. Do you know how much money I could have saved on porn if I could imagine anything I wanted?
