If California rules for mandatory condoms it will have a negative effect on the industry in that state. I say that given the vociferous hatred of condoms expressed by some people in these forums. However 'the porn industry' will survive, as it has done for thousands of years. One thing is for sure, and that is that some folks will get around the rules to deliver a product people are willing to pay good money for. Porn was never supposed to be a safe "workplace" to start with. It doesn't change the product a bit. He'll wear those shoes every day and never think about a factory worker in a hardhat. When I'm sitting here trying to get my rocks off to movies of people having sex, it kind of matters if they're not actually having real, uncensored sex. Frankly, you're probably reading this post on a computer that was (in some small way or another) produced by someone who was just plain exploited. Never had a choice. Nobody cares about their health or how many hours a week they work or whether they even get paid. But we keep having this ridiculous debate here in a country where you have to make a conscious choice and effort to put yourself in the porn industry and you can walk away anytime. The "disregard I have for performers' safety" is the disregard I'd have for the safety of anyone who is knowingly doing something that's inherently risky. That's to say that it isn't really disregard for their safety. It's more like respect for their right to make the choice to do something that has to be a little bit risky if you want to do it right. People who feel it's too dangerous shouldn't be doing it or they should already be working for one of the companies that use condoms. This is the same old argument about the government knowing what's good for you better than you do repackaged as a "workplace safety" issue. Making these kinds of arguments about porn is a terrible idea and will end with us losing whatever is left of our right to enjoy it. Edit - And it's supposed to be a real penis going into a real vagina. Again, that's the product. As such, maybe calling porn a fantasy is a bit off.
