I just got a DVD off of eBay and the disc arrived cracked from the centre. Dammit!

It's not TOO badly cracked, so hopefully it will play. But if I don't do something I think the cracks will grow and eventually destroy the disc.

I am considering using cyanoacrylate (Krazy Glue) or hobby glue (mainly a plastic solvent). Good idea? Bad idea?

RANT: why do the distributors use these horrible DVD-chewing cases? I've had several discs cracked or damaged by those stupid "hub" in the case. I think it's a conspiracy by the industry (both porn and mainstream) to limit the life time of their products so the consumers have to replace the damaged discs sooner or later.

I have also had this unfortunate occurrance. One disc I had started to finely crack around the center hub. I used a very small amount of Krazy Glue (as you suggest) and that fixed the problem for a while. It extended the life of the disc by at least six months.

The problem was, the spot with the glue became white and discolored, so although it fixed the crack, the result was not that aesthetically pleasing. Also, I tried to put the "fixed" disc back into one of those DVD cases (stupid) and it just cracked it further. Krazy Glue works though if you are careful.

Here's my similar rant about DVD cases

I accidently cracked my Ass Worship 1 dvd.....it was a very sad night.

It's most likely not your fault?

It's an arguement to take the trouble to back up your favorite DVDs.

Found this product in my surfing travels around the web, a long time ago. it would be ideal, except the fact that YOU CAN'T F**KING BUY THEM from this crowd. Their site only mentions "partners" who supply/sell in large quantities and for the ordinary consumer, like us online, you can't seem to buy the things. I even took the idea to a friend of mine who works for a printers locally and tried to get him interested in producing them (via licence or such), but never heard anything back on the subject. Actually, I think one of my local video/dvd rental shops uses some (or something similar) on their discs.


If I could get a supply of them, I would put them on ALL my discs, in case of damage. And that's a lot of discs! But it would be worth it. and I know a lot of friends would be interested. If anyone knows of any place selling these (or similar), please let us know?

Follow-up on my story...

Turns out the seller is a nice guy and promise to refund my money when I ship it back. So I'm down only the shipping fee. Considering no one likes to see discs destroyed, I'm happy with the outcome.

That means: I won't be trying the Krazy Glue idea. Geez.. I'm almost dying to try it out... but... nah I will just be more dilligent with making back-ups (yeah I know I should not be discussing how to do it).
