I recently received a package from Laseredge containing 2 DVD`s that I had ordered. Absolutely no complaints with Laseredge. They sent me a quality product inc. great service.
The thing that bothered me was when I inspected the package,a Jiffi bag, it looked as though someone had slit a hole down the side with a razor blade and made absolutely no effort to cover it up i.e with sellotape. The DVD`s were therefore exposed to every postman from Dover to my house. In fact I`m sure my local postie was giving me dirty looks the other day.
Is this normal and have you guys and gals had any similar experiences?
Its not just the privacy aspect that I`m concerned about. Any postie could`ve had their hands on the package once they had discovered what was inside.
I guess I do feel fortunate however that customs let the DVD`s through and didn`t confiscate them. That would`ve really annoyed me.

In my experience Customs have re-sealed packets properly and placed a sticker on them - one even had a small printed explanatory notice inside. I wonder if the damage was caused in the postal system. Having seen on TV how parcels are handled during sorting, it wouldn't surprise me. I had one packet that was slightly torn on the corner, but that's all. I suppose a nosey person could have seen inside.

It actually improves my view of the Royal Mail's employees to hear that you got the package in the end, despite this.
You can actually complain to the Royal Mail about the damage without having to go into the exact contents of the parcel. If you just want to register your complaint without actually seeking compensation, this might be an idea.

I think that someone intentionally cut the side of the Jiffi bag, to see what was inside. It definitely wasn`t an accident because the incision was as straight as an arrow.
I don`t think I`ll take this any further Gabriel. I`m just glad that the DVD`s got here in one piece. I know so many other members have had their DVD`s confiscated by customs before. I am content.
I may however follow your advice, if the same happens again in the future.

There is a lot of automated mail handling machinery involved in the postal system (at least there is in the U.S.). It's possible that the cut was caused by a piece of this machinery.

I agree, that it was probably caused by a person, but the fact that it was a clean cut doesn't automatically indicate that someone did this intentionally.

My last Erodvd order was opened by customs, which is nothing new. Unfortunately for me they used a stanley knife to slice open the paper that the dvd covers were inside, and put a slash on the cover insert, though the discs were fine.

Luckily they at least sealed the package properly, and I got it fine in the end, excepting the slight cut in the cover art.
