I recently got some American movies to review and I could hardly see the picture properly, despite turning the brightness up 100%.

Why are so many movies badly lit. Some are really, very dark, barely see any action.

Mainly later Sista movies. Or compilations. Metro's had a few dark ones, Adam and Eve also, but the likes of Platinum X, Red Light, are very clear and sharp.

This, to me, is one of the inexcusable sins of porn. Poorly lit sex, or sex obscured by shadows because of insufficient back lighting, are things that absolutely drive me crazy.

It seems like such a no-brainer - one of the very first things a cameraman would become conscious of - but alas, there's still a lot of badly-lit porn out there.

Why do you think my skin looks so pasty blue sometimes? Some people just shoot and collect.

Sasha, i've got a quick question for you. Do you recall if you've done any standing DPs on film? If so, what movies? I've looked through all your boxcovers that i could find and couldn't find any. I have seen you do one in a Suze Randall pic set, but that's all. Thanks for any help.

If you're able to watch any of those movies on your computer, you could try adjusting the gamma settings on your graphics card or media player (I use VLC). That tends to work a little better than just upping the brightness.

Hahahaha pasty blue persuasion!!!
Why yes, in The Awakening....which is still not out.
I don't think we got it in the actual scene for Suze because of height problems, which is the issue most of the time...one guy is too short, and the other too tall. We even tried an apple box!

It's probably just crap lighting and directing. Maybe they tried too hard to get the 'mood' just right....

Cameraman not knowing his craft or camera and lighting. I have been without a c-light and it has blown up in my face with dark action. Also some guys look at their display panel and think that is what they are getting on tape. Only the eye piece will give you a true picture of what you are getting. I have even heard of guys shooting a scene with the ND filter on. Shit happens I guess.

This is on that no-brainer list of things that ruin scenes along with too much closeup and DPs where the only angle is of man-ass.
