"Porn journalism" is not my profession. And how is David Stanley a fundamental element of pornography? I might enjoy his features, who knows? If you want to go one-on-one in Porn Jeopardy, though, I'm pretty sure I can whip your ass. Edited by - skronker on 6/27/2008 11:49:08 AM
I don't think it's fair to describe the sentiment of David's fans in this thread as either fawning or perverse. David's movies, in both content and craft, are very different from any other porn being produced these days. He has a strong grasp of traditional filmmaking techniques and grammar -- as distinguished from a talent for porn cinematography or gonzo scene-orchestration (both of which I keenly appreciate and don't denigrate in the least, BTW). He also has his own, very unique and quirky, vision and sensibility. That being the case, it's understandable that his fans would be ardent. (Note: I'm not exactly one of David's fans -- being more of a hardened end-user when it comes to porn -- but I am an admirer.)

juha and ClamDigger- thanks for the reasonable discussion. threesomebody - When have I ever said that I'm nice 100% of the time? Hell, at least when I have something negative to say about someone, I don't have a friend do it for me. Edited by - tricia_devereaux on 6/27/2008 2:46:09 PM
Bob - couldn't have written it better myself. Tricia - Thanks for the explanation. I was curious as to why you seemed to *really* not like Stanley. In the last couple of months it was a guarantee that if I were complimentary about his movies, you would pop up and question it. Glad to know at some point, you thought he was talented and wanted to meet him. Sad that he acted like a dick to you. Bummer. BTW - I haven't really learned anything new about Stanley's moods in this thread. He writes like this. Everything is from an emotional zenith. I dont' concern myself with how that plays out in real life. It's not my place to worry about that stuff. I'm just the end-product consumer who appreciates how it manifests itself in his creations. And Harri Patel. Thanks for practicing restraint. I can think of 3 threads at this very instant who's topics are biz people and I would LOVE to go in and be snarky. But I try to follow ADT etiquette and keep my negativity to myself.
This is the most interesting thread that I've read in a long, long time. David Stanley, who (having watched most of his videos) I'm not sure has any talent, is still struggling to get it together. And Tricia & Stormy are as outspoken as ever. Straight talk about porn by industry people is very rare. A refreshing change.
Well, you've heard of him now. :) David Stanley is a feature director and this thread probably should have been moved to The Feature Side. Of course, no one would have read it over there seeing as there is a grand total of six ADT posters who follow current features. Probably why it wasn't moved. I'm pretty sure you and Skronker are strictly all-sex fans. Times like these I really miss ObiBong.
What? What'd I miss? OK, I went and read this. I'm sorry I missed the whole thing, because here's one thread in 2008 I might have actually contributed something to. Too late now, it seems. Since it appears to be over anyway, I'm going to go ahead and derail a little just to take issue with an offhand, peripheral comment that I'm sure wasn't meant negatively. Still. I think those of us who are David Stanley fans are some of the least "fawning" slobberers on this board. But I'm sure it still seems curious, because we're actually fans of his work and have made an honest judgment that this work is unique and worthy of attention. If that sounds like I'm saying that most of the fawning that you see on ADT is less sincere, yes, that's what I'm saying. I know it's repeating the obvious, but so much of the appreciation expressed in these forums is of the truly obsequious, fawning kind -- just high-school bootlicking of the pretty and popular girls, especially once they become members. It always made me sad when I would start threads in the Feature Side about Devinn Lane or Stormy movies, usually (admittedly, not always) content-based rather than she's-so-hot-based, and they would be completely ignored. Then, when these ladies started posting here, suddenly they were mobbed by all these adoring ADT fans, gonzo denizens who previously couldn't give two shits about any movie they'd ever been in. It was transparent, and frankly kind of sickening. Even though I think my posts about David's movies and Stormy's read about the same, I always felt that bit of discomfort when I praised Stormy because I was afraid it could be taken as the garden-variety mindless ass-kissing that fills Star Crossed daily. That wouldn't have been an issue with David, and the dialog could have been truly uncorrupted. I always wished he would post here because of that. Oh well. That ship has sailed -- on multiple levels. Sorry if this was an arrogant prick post, but this thread was a little depressing.
To address more of the content of this thread, I think people who remember my posts could accurately predict that I would disagree with David's "gonzo-is-shit" outburst and that I would find it an inappropriate thing to say. I've always tried to push peaceful coexistence. But I have to say I am slow to outrage after having read "feature porn sucks, it's all worthless, it's not even real porn" 30 fucking thousand times on this forum. And after all this time, I come back to ADT and there really still are new threads here ripping Jenna Jameson? Really? It's worthwhile in 2008 for people to say Jenna's overrated and no one should be a fan and what did Jenna ever really do? Seriously? Isn't that mentality, that hostility, part of what ails David, perhaps? As someone who has watched a lot of his movies, I'm not surprised that he's an emotional guy with some issues. I make no defenses of his personal or professional conduct, because what do I know, but I do think it's too bad he couldn't have gotten a little more forbearance in his time here. Believe me, I understand why this was a particularly bad time for him to say what he said the way he said it, but it's still unfortunate the way things went down. Or maybe not. This might not be the place for him, for many of the reasons it's not as much a place for me as it used to be.
My favorite format is actually the vignette ... My issue with features, as such, is that you take people who are good at fucking and bad at acting, then you make them act and you don't let them fuck (as much) ... That doesn't make sense to me. You can't reinvent golden age porn because the social situations that produced it in the '70s are not the same. My favorite working "feature" director, unless Stagiliano or Leslie intends to return to the form again anytime soon, is Joe Gallant. And that's a guy with ZERO fans on ADT talking him up. Well, me ... and Veronica Jett maybe.
^I'm looking forward to that. During filming, jessica drake wrote good things about it in her blog. I like her with smaller boobs. We also have "The Last Rose" to look forward to. Edited by - savoy on 7/13/2008 8:31:31 PM
"The Last Rose" is David Stanley's final film for Wicked? If I were to direct/work for Wicked and like death and taxes, would leave acrimoniously, I'd do a self-referential Magnum opus parody about the story of Wicked Pictures. All that soap opera drama over the past fifteen years would make for a great comedy. Just the family tree alone is comedy gold. The amazing feat of having eighteen contract actresses and only two and half boyfriends... It would be bigger than "Pirates." Brian
I'm by no means an expert on the Wicked family tree. But it's no secret that Brad Armstrong had a relationship with many of the Wicked girls. From Jenna to Stormy to Jessica.
i've been a very, very wicked girl. 110 Posts 8/07

i like me with smaller boobs too! nothing against big titties, but they hurt my back a lot and during sex, bounced their bigness all over. public service is great! it's creepy and dark. and come on, guys, knock it off with the "bang brad and get a contract" already. it's getting old, lol. we've been together now almost 5 years, before that, yes, he was with stormy for a year and a half, maybe 2, yes, he's dated others, but i mean, really, when that's your LIFE, where exactly is one supposed to meet new dating prospects? i don't think dating a vivid girl would go over too well, but hey, he's done that before too. just remember, he's been around about 16 years now, so it averages out. and he was married to jenna. between the three of us you mentioned, i'd say the man has great taste!! (and tastes great!) and there will be no public viewing of that family tree, fyi. i'll save it for my memoirs... because i know all the dirty little secrets. love ya!
