Different companies pay outrageously different amounts. IMO, the best gonzo directors are the ones that do their own video camerawork though.  [Link] |

If you don't freeze up and can bring your network level of craft to the job, it's pretty likely the results you'll get will be far above the average Chatsworth lensmen. | Yani Z Vizual Films 179 Posts 2/03 | Posted - Oct 18 2003 : 1:10AM Average it’s $150 for stills a scene ( 3 rolls a scene! 1 roll for box and the other 2 hardcore) and $200 for Video a scene, watch out for companies That try to make you shoot in a day rate I’ve been burned many times like this as they will try to squeeze out 2 movies form you, danger Will Robertson! Also be careful because if you know how to light they will try to get this for free too not realize that it's a whole skill and job onto itself! I started out about 6 years ago at these prices and worked with the best camera people in the industry who earned much more then me! As far as equipment most companies have their choice of camera equipment but if They don’t you can rent you camera out for $150 for a 3 chip, if you have lighting skills and have the equipment that price can be all over the map depending on what equipment you have! But like I said most companies have their equipment already! I have $100,000 worth of equipment and never really got my money back on rentals but at least now I can use it on my own stuff :) P.S. If you can do the whole crew thing like I’ve done for many of companies for the last 5 years you can give price breaks but it’s up to you to decide how much your time, skills and schooling are worth and don’t forget you are not guaranteed work 5 days a week so you have to average that in! It only took 13 years!!!! I'm finally able to say that I'm now a respected videographer/Director. Truthfully, that's just wishful thinking on my part. Honetly I'd rather be a bigger fish in a smaller pond, that's the motivation for change. At the same time, I am uncertain about the security of porn. Companies, tallent and jobs seem to come and go at a much high frequency. I wonder if some of the companies would allow me on set for a day to see how the industry works? [Link] |

There is still value to still photos, people who think still photography is an afterthought are wrong. I could sell alot of stills on the Web from gonzo companies if they would take the time and money and shoot high quality digital stills. Not to mention high quality stills add value to the DVD. A company approached me wanting to know if Wanton would be interested in shooting stills for them. Yeah I said, for $1,000 a day I can get him to do it. [Link] |
