JAV movies are simply movies produced by Japanese production companies, for a Japanese audience . Note that not all JAV have Japanese performers. A small number have Russian or even well recognized North American performers, but in general all performers are Japanese, both men and women.

As far as I know, there is no stable North American distribution of JAV. JAV producer Shuttle Japan (with an English language version page)will ship to the US from Japan, but that is the only one of which I know. Jlist (caters to NA with an exclusively English language page) is run by an American expat in Japan who acts as a sort of middle man and ships here. Another company called AV Cosmo has a Japanese only page, but they have English speakers on board and handle orders to the US. They have recently incorporated credit card orders as well. Plus there are assorted bootleggers who make reasonably priced dupes of a lot of movies, but they tend to have limited selection (and the quality is not reliable).
