I've bought a few toys before, beads, plugs, vags etc. I say I've bought a few I mean 5-8 The thing is once I've "used" them once I feel all dirty and have to get rid of them, even though I get a lot of pleasure from them. So I guess I have 2 questions: 1) How do I get past that mental block of having to dispose of a toy - I'm looking at buying a vibrating butt plug and don't want to want to throw it out after only one use. 2) Once I can get past that mental block what do I store it in, where can I put it and how do I clean it?

Don't know about question 1, but about question 2 D-Vice make really nice cloth "shopping" bags that can be used for toy storage plus they are very cheap at 1 or 2 NZ $ a piece. D-Vice have a store in Auckland too. I bought four of those bags myself.
As for cleaning I use only silicone toys cause they are easy to clean, first with soap then you can put them in boiling water to kill any germs.
I'll agree with Joey -- if you have a phobia about dirtiness, get toys that can be cleaned with boiling water - check out pyrex glass, too. For a vibrating plug, try using a bullet that fits into a silicon sleeve which can be cleaned in boiling water.
In addition to all the boiling and stuff there are companys that make antibacterial toy wash--Doc Johnson has one it comes in a spray and some other form. No matter how clean my toys may be I like to wipe them down using the antibacterial spray right before I use them. I keep my toys sealed in ziplock baggies and then I keep the bags in plastic drawers.
Personally I don't buy anything that can't be put through the dishwasher. It's the best way to sterilize your toys.
For germ freaks, the best thing is pyrex/glass. I personally don't care for glass in the ass--it's too hard, but it does come clean simply with soap and water, being that it's completely non-porous.
Getting past the mental block. Hmmm. If you don't have a problem with germs in your daily life (i.e. doorknobs, tableware at restaurants) there's no reason to have it with sex toys. The human body is very robust, and if you take rudimentary precautions to clean your toys, you won't get sick. If you do have a hang-up about germs overall, you'll need some therapy to get over it. It's a very common phobia and even the most inexperienced psychologist knows how to treat it.
Me? I store my toys next to my bed in my nightstand. I have them all in a plastic container, along with my favorite lube. I figure if my teenage kids sneak through the drawers in my bedroom, they deserve to be warped. Serves the little sneaks right.
i'm not sure exactly how you do it, but i'd think ziplocs might actually increase the number of pathogens you'd find should the toys not be totally dry.
I had that same thought. plastic is a moisture barrier that traps moisture inside things, hence the warnings not to store vintage papers and books sealed in plastic, the problems with double moisture barriers in housing, etc. Something breathable is preferable.
Thanks for all the feedback - But one point - It's not a germ phobia that I have after using them it's that I feel a little embarrassed that I've 'done' that to myself y'know. Thank you though :)
After using soap, you can always soak stuff in water+bleach. That is how they clean butcher's blocks (well, they spray it on). Next day rinse it out good or soak in clean water.
No kidding, I hope that it gives them nightmares for years .As long as videos of what you were doing don't end up on the internet (at least not without just compensation) why worry about it? If it is a worry about what others might think, here's a little clue, they don't. Other people are so caught up in their own little worlds that they don't notice your's (that & they have the same toys under their bed). As long as you enjoy it & it hurts nobody else, why be embarrassed?
In our case, toys enhance things quite often. If I'm tired, they can take the place of me while I recover or want to hold off on the finale for a while. On the receiving end, they can provide that unexpected jolt that sends me to a level above the usual.
Either way they are nothing to be ashamed of, but rather something to work on getting the full benefit out of.
Easier said than done, but try telling yourself it's just masturbation. If you're not embarassed about looking at magazines or videos or reading passages in books or whatever, it shouldn't be much of a leap, really. Try and just shrug it off as sex play.
As for throwing the toy out, try this. Get a box or something to keep the toy in. Something discrete. Find a place to put it where you know it won't attract attention. It doesn't have to stand up to an FBI search, it just has to go unnoticed in your routine life.
Promise yourself that if you use the toy, no matter what happens, it'll go back into the box and back into its place for a cooling off period. Pick a period of time that will allow you to get past the guilt until you can think objectively again. Maybe it's a week. Promise yourself you won't throw it out for a week. At the end of that cooling-off period, then you can revisit whether you really want to throw it out or not.
The key is not to let yourself do dumb things in the heat of the moment, or in the depth of guilt or depression.
Another alternative: hump a banana or a nice melon. You'd throw that away when you were done with it anyway...
Yup. I had an inflatable doll (I mentioned it elsewhere) for awhile and I had to get over feeling like I'd really hit rock bottom. It was a matter of getting my mind around the doll being just another sex toy (albiet a big, elaborate and expensive one), and the stigma was all in my head. Besides, the doll wasn't connected to my social situation at all. It was curiosity and horniness. But it took some time.
Elsewhere, the cooling-off rule has saved me from a lot of regrettable situations where I might have said or done something in the heat the moment that I'd regret later. Works for sex toys, emails, personal correspondence, the last of the coffee consumed and not replenished--you name it.
The Venetian Wall? I don't know, those sculptures are pretty, but they look like they might hurt!I hate to be the one to say this, but I have heard of teenagers not just snooping around and finding their parents' toys, but then secretly using them!
Hmmm. Perhaps I should I clean them again before using them. Personally I'd rather my daughter have an illicit physical affair with one of my toys than with her 15-year-old boyfriend. I like the boy, so I don't want to have to hurt him. Hell, if it'll keep my little girl out of his pants, I'd buy her a toy of her own. Sadly, she likes the boy's attention more than anything, and a toy can't replace that. Aaarrgghh!
