I'm having trouble logging into a new Yahoo Mail account. Their help page says to clear my Explorer cache. I couldn't find how to do this on the Exp. help pages, so how do I do this?

Also, I see that I have 29,100 files in my Temporary Internet folder. I decided to select all these files, then clicked on 'Delete'. Well, this seems to be taking a long time to do. How do I delete all these files quickly, if a quick way exists?

Thanks, Renee

Not an Explorer expert, but I think I've got this covered:

In the "Tools" menu select "Internet Options...". A dialog box should pop up.
In the first tab ("General"), there should be some buttons labelled "Delete Cookies" and "Delete Files".

"Delete Files" clears out your cache of temporary files.

"Delete Cookies" deletes any settings you've made on various web pages (Google preferences and such).
Your browser will also forget that you're logged into ADT and similar sites. Nothing to worry about. Just login again.

the program I use is CCleaner. Download and install it from here using the alternative download.

when you install it uncheck the automatically look for updates and don't create a desktop short cut.

to use it after it's installed right click on the recycle bin and either click Run CCleaner or Open CCleaner and click Run Cleaner. This works for Internet Explorer or Firefox.

If you want to get fancy with it you can tell it what cookies to keep (before you run it) so you don't have to keep logging into your favourite sites (like ADT). With CCleaner open:
1. click on the options button
2. click on cookies
3. click on the items on the left column that you want to keep one at a time (ex. adultdvdtalk.com) or more than one at a time by holding the ctrl key down.
4. click on the -> button.

you may want to also decrease the size of your internet cache. (tools, options, settings, check off Every visit to the page and decrease the cache size to 40MB, click ok)

29,100 is a lot of files...

It doesn't matter what way you do it, some will be involved. 5 min or so sounds about right... Maybe a few more depending on the CPU and RAM you have.

I usually have a shorcuts of temp, cookies and others onto my desktop so I delete those manually and in details view inteasd of thumbnails but other than that I use Norton System work cleaner to get rid of most of those things, then I go back and open those folder and in most cases its empty.

Yes, this is something EVERYBODY should do for their computer every week. Delete those cookies and delete those files. Before I knew this I had slowdown problems for 5 years! What a waste of valuable time.

The other problem I had was my telephone jacks were corroded and causing a lot of static which slowed down my downloading significantly. You must call in a telephone service man to test all your phone lines. If you have road runner, you're probably using a cable line. Mine is a Verizon DSL service via phone line.
