| Tyler Durden Member 14 Posts 11/02 |  Posted - Jan 17 2003 : 11:26PMI have just been watching Ali G on DVD - very funny stuff - including the time he visited the Cannes film festival (1999 or 2000 I guess..) During the visit he interviews Jenna.. I have been pondering one of the great questions of our times...(or not).. Did Jenna actually realise the stupidly-dressed, ludicrous caricature of a man interviewing her was a comedian? If she was being professional and ignoring how ridiculous he was....congrats - I doubt many people could have avoided cracking up so admirably! Not to worry though - Mr "G" is a parody of stupid middle class white men who ostentatiously wish they were black and living in South Central LA. Plus a general critique of cliched "gangsta" behaviour. He is actually a Cambridge graduate.. He is not mocking the interviewees - no need for Jenna to feel offended :) - the comedy is in his demeanour not those he meets.. As you can tell by my rather pathetic total of posts, I am new to these forums. The fact that Jenna posts here gave me the idea that I might as well ask the question... The LA gang member where Ali kept asking him questions about woolly jumpers that his gran knitted. And that time when he hi-jacked a coach full of French school kids on a day trip and tried to get a gang bang going. [Link] |

"The first rule of Fight Club is........" The Ali G question is really just simple curiosity. He rarely appears on TV and his act is a one-trick pony, which, after a few viewings, gets very tedious. Good luck to Jenna for not realising Ali G is a "comedian". It's a mistake anyone could make. Hence the reason why he has made a career out of fooling British celebs and politicians into being "interviewed" by him. He didn't make them laugh during the interviews. I rest my case, m'lud. Rump.

The guy who played Dennis Pennis went on to do some serious acting in One Thousand Acres of Sky, a hugely succesful series currently being shown on BBC1. The guy who does Ali G, Sacha Barron Cohen, or something like that, seems stuck in that bleedin' track suit like a demented Jimmy Savile clone. I mean, please move on! Rump. [Link] |
