I just watched 'the girlfriend exchange'. there is nothing more frustrating in porn than knowing there is hot sex happening but the camera is not anywhere near focusing on it or accentuating it in any way. In Chastity Lynn's scene the camera was literally on her shins for what seemed like an entire minute. you could HEAR that what was happening was good sex, but all you saw were her feet/shins. And in Jada/Chastity's bgg the same thing happened! You could HEAR Chastity/Jada making out and fingering each other, but all you saw was their thighs and then the camera literally focused on the wall for a few seconds...a white wall. It seems like the camera work at DP i just getting worse and worse. Or maybe it's the editing, idk. Surely the camera captures better shots than the ones that end up in the final product.
If you think the B/G/G scene in that was bad, watch the orgy at the end of 'code of honor'. What's the point of having all these fabulous looking girls in one scene and they only thing you get to see is Manuels dick. It only highlights my point about DP's un-willingness to indulge in G/G.
^I don't agree with that last part. I thought the reverse gang bangs from Babysitters 2 and Nurses 2 focused on Manuel way more than the COH attempt. At least that was confined to one table. In Babysitters 2, the sex was all on four couches and the camera was jumping all over.
That camera panning is what I can't figure out. DP is shooting RED 4k cameras, so for a blu-ray release they can either down-scale the full-frame shot to 1080 or pan-and-scan within the full-frame. If it's the first, why on earth are they shooting a close-up of a girl's shin? We're buying hardcore, if we wanted Skinemax we would be buying Skinemax. If it's the second, what are they scanning away from? An earlier poster mentioned that DP limits some on-screen activity so as not to anger the credit card companies, but based on the rest of the scene, I doubt if the performers are having a 6 second fisting break during the middle of filming. It's frustrating when they have the most attractive girls and then don't leave the camera on them.
Yes it was confined to one table but you still can't see anything of what the girls are doing to each other and that makes it all the more criminal. I borrowed it off a friend and i've watched it 3 times now just to see if i might have overlooked the odd 'blink and you miss it' finger prod or tongue jab, but nope it's still the same. The most inept orgy scene ever by the most inept director ever. Sorry if people don't agree with that last comment, but that's my view on it.
You're right and my guess is that unless Mr 'D' does something different that's gonna warrant a more positive view, they'll keep on hearing it.

I have to agree with the general dissatisfaction being expressed in this thread. At this point, I'm pretty much done buying DP movies until they make a change. DP has the hottest girls in the industry, and pairs them with the best male performers, but the scenes they produce seem to waste that. Instead of shooting the performers just having sex, they focus on random closeups of penetration, and sometimes, not even that, just random body parts. The sex scenes are often too short, and way over-edited, to the point where it's distracting. I get that they cater to a certain demographic, but I don't think that excuses the consistent failure to capture a decent sex scene. Other feature companies do it routinely, and they aren't working with anything close to the talent DP uses. The romantic comedy themed movies, which for some reason feature the male performers instead of their contract girls, are so stale that I FF anything between the sex scenes. It wouldn't be so bad if they ever shot anything else. What really kills me though, is that you'd almost have to be trying to screw up shooting a scene with Stoya and James Deen, or Kayden Kross and Manuel Ferrara, but DP has pulled it off so many times that I've given up. Kayden is my absolute favorite performer in the industry, but I didn't buy Kayden's last two movies or Code of Honor, and unless DP tries something new, I don't see that changing.
DP aren't going to change because nobody over there seems to give a shit about what fans think. If they did then Cherry 3 would've happened by now. The last time anyone at DP had an idea about branching out and adding something different to the formulaic couples only boy/girl stuff they were stabbed in the back and fired. Mothers and daughters (49 movies and 13 months ago) was the last time a DP movie had something different in it that wasn't B/G. That's right, it had that rarest of commodities in a DP movie in it. Wait for it.....A G/G scene!!!!. If they had carried on with that approach, doing more G/G scenes, then yeah I suppose you could say that they are doing something different, but they haven't and I'll wager that you won't see another G/G scene in a DP movie again, ever.
Okay, everyone understands that you are seriously upset over no Cherries 3. But repeating it isn't contributing to the thread and its becoming obsessive.
I don't mean to be repetitive, but it bugs the hell out of me that they just left what could have been a great story hanging with no ending. So I guess I'm holding on to the faint hope that there might still be a third. Edited by - lezlover on 4/2/2013 3:16:07 PM

It does. That's wayyyyy down my list of DP grievances, though. I wish they would shoot the occasional vignette or gonzo style movie. They used to do it fairly regularly, and they always yielded my favorite scenes. Admittedly, I was a little bit too critical with my last post, but I still won't give DP my money until they figure out how to shoot a decent sex scene in their features. Nothing I've seen from them recently indicates that they have, though.
^ I have gripes about DP. Primarily, I don't trust that their "features" are actually features at all. I always check with other people to see how integrated the sex/narrative is (it usually isn't) and in turn how much traditional narrative there is in between the unintegrated sex scenes (there tends to be very little). I felt pretty cheated by FIGHTERS and I think that's the last one I attempted to watch. A real shame imo, as they seem to have talented people working there. I think it's a case of falling victim to attempting to please two disparate audiences.
Indeed... and "Fighters" is IMHO actually an example where the narrative elements are fitting and numerous enough to be called a feature correctly. If you felt cheated by that, then a number of other DP titles indeed are even less examples of that integration of sex and narration.Probably that's the main reason.
I just got 'watch over me' the new Stoya movie, and I have to say I was pleased to see some improvement in the camera work. Not NEARLY as many close-ups. So, some positive feedback :) really liked both of Stoya's scenes in this one, and the plot wasn't bad either.

The whole problem at DP is Robby D. Plain and simple. If there is another major studio who only uses one director let me know but I can't think of one. They are wasting some seriously hot girls at DP. Also, in the Lily Carter thread someone linked to a trailer for "Don't Fuck My Sister" and they didn't even spell Lily's name right in the trailer! Lily fucking Carter and they couldn't spell her name correctly!! I call that movie a "A Robby D. Misspelling". They don't care and it shows.
I also have the impression their movies don't have much in the way of plot. That's the most important part of a feature. None of their movies have appealed to me because they seem to lack in this area.
Sounds like DP might release a gonzo title in May jack attack 1' w/Riley Steele... I'll wait for a trailer or boxcover before I get too excited though.

^ I wouldn't be surprised if it's nothing more then a scene compilation DVD. And if it's not and it's like the other "Jack" DVD's it'll be the DP version of "gonzo". Which isn't gonzo at all.

^ See, this is what frustrates the hell out of me about DP. Normally that would be a GREAT cast but I know since Robby D. is the director that it's going to be poorly shot and boring. DP: if you don't want to get rid of Robby D. at least THINK ABOUT hiring another director to go with him. Jeez.

I think the scenes in DP's gonzo style movies have been shot pretty well actually. I'm glad they're bringing it back. I have several volumes of Jack's POV and Powerfuck, and watch some of the scenes in them fairly regularly. BiBi Jones' scene with Manuel Ferrara in Jack's POV is still a favorite of mine.
The only movie that i have from DP is "Contract Star" from 2004, long time ago. I don't know if anyone ever saw or know about the movie, but i though it was good.
I'm wondering why there are no longer trailers available on the press site? I never buy DVD's without checking out the trailer first and I'd like to see if I wanna purchase any upcoming DP movies.
^I mentioned this is in another thread, but the back end is being changed so that we can get them up faster. It used to be we'd have them up weeks out of a movies release, but if we can get them up sooner, now, we will. So, next weeks release will be up same date as release, but after that they should start coming more frequently. I agree. The girls are hot and are typically contract-based. Often the A-list of pornstars, the type you see in the mainstream media (like Stoya, Sasha Grey, Jenna Jameson etc.). However, if you like your porn somewhat rougher, look elsewhere. DP does some energetic one-on-one sex, but they rarely feature more than one guy to a girl. A girlfriend friendly label.

Even though Jesse and Stoya are two of the hottest girls in porn, I'm not going to part with my hard earned money to watch close ups of their stomachs or the guys face throughout the entire scene. Robby D directing every movie. EPIC pass!

Yeah, I'm a DP fan, but this lack of trailers pretty much ensures a "no-buy" from me. Their last new trailer was uploaded almost a month ago -- after having a fairly continual stream of weekly uploads reaching back to July 2003.
I was browsing DP Blu-rays, and I was shocked to see that DP has actually released a couple of BD-50 titles. One is Pirates II (2008), which appears to have over 300 minutes of content on one BD-50, but the other is Teachers (2009). It is actually marked "Dual Layer Disc" on the back cover (as is Pirates II). Indeed, on my HDTV, it looks fantastic, even if it's not the best-shot DP film ever, the technical quality is astounding to see in playback:

Up until now, everything I have seen from DP is on BD-25 media (including Nurses (2009), which is 195 minutes, and Nurses 2 (2012), is not marked as Dual Layer, despite being 180 minutes), and when Graham from Elegant Angel explained to me recently that BD-50s were not accessible to them, I figured it was the same for all porn companies in the USA--I mean, most labels seem to use two BD-25s instead of one BD-50, and they have to know that shoving all that content onto a single-layer disc can be disastrous for the PQ, and I would think that this is one of the reasons that some people don't buy adult Blu-rays, because if compression is so bad, the PQ isn't going to have the stuff to impress consumers. Really, anything over two hours really needs to be on a BD-50 disc, in order to get the best from the Blu-ray format. I've been holding out on DP titles for a while now for unrelated reasons, but their inability to get boxcovers/trailers out to consumers is ridiculous. They used to be the absolute best at it. Releasing trailers 4 movies ahead of street date, plus free BTS. I've been a DP supporter over the years, but now, for a supposed top porn company, they really need to get their shit together.
I'm also a fairly loyal DP customer but the lack of trailers is the final straw. First, my personal information was released in a cyber attack. Then the website got rid of its monthly rental option. Now DP won't even release trailers ahead of time. That is it - you've lost me. Dislike.

Well now that you mentioned it... The website thing was my first point of contention with DP. I actually rejoined the site fairly recently, and was unable to access any of their "epic" features with a basic 30$/m membership. Then there's the streaming only, no downloads. Give me a break. As much as I like their contract girls, I've concluded that their product just isn't worth it. I'm desperately hoping that Kayden Kross and Stoya go independent in the near future, or sign a contract with virtually anyone else. A year ago, I wouldn't have even considered that thought. Also. Totally agree, but as I've said elsewhere on this thread DP don't give a shit about the consumer. My advice,for what it's worth, take your hard earned elsewhere rather than give it to this absolute joke of a porn company. All the films are the goddamn same anyway so you won't be missing anything.
Unfortunately that's DP for you. They seem to focus more on the men than the women. You only have to check out the orgy scenes at the end of the "blue ribbon" features. There could be five girls having a whale of a time, but we don't get to see it because it's all about the guy. I'm pretty sure that's not what everyone wants to see but with DP what we want, we don't get.
