Four major things that I need to opine about.

First of all, penetration shots. After the first few seconds, they're BORING. What's the deal? Why are so many clips like more than half penetration?

Second, why such dry and mechanical performers. Common sight: missionary, male upright, verry little contact, in and out at a constant pace for minutes on end. Again, boring. Why the complete absence of passion? You know how other peoples' behavior influences your own mindset? Watching someone who looks bored makes you bored, for example. Why don't you ever see performers who seem excited? Engrossed? Horney? I swear to God you can almost see them checking the clocks, wondering when the hell they can get this over with, as they keep on with their 35 pumps per minute pace.

The third one here leaves me at a loss as to why it should even come up. It's so obvious that it's absurd to think someone would believe it attractive to show the film dude's expression right before the money shot. Lolita on her knees, happily awaiting his load, I'm over here stroking furiously, timing my own climax to match the splatters on her face, and then, UGH, closeup of GUY'S FACE! What a total mood spoiler! I'm just about to blow it and then all the sudden the camera's three inches away from this guy's face while he's doing his own "cumming" expression?! Stop this! Stop it, stop it, stop it! NOBODY WANTS TO SEE A GUY'S FACE CLOSEUP JUST AS HE OR THEY ARE ABOUT TO BLOW.

Finally, is it just me, or does standard-fare porn camerawork smack of laziness? The camera will be fixed in one position for several minutes, then a new position for a few minutes. Couple changes position, camera doesn't. Again, boring, boring, boring! Look at an average movie. The camera's perspective is changing every few seconds. In periods of intensified activity (action scenes), the camera jumps around even more. Why on earth should porn be any different? Sex is the most intense action life has to offer! Can you imagine how boring a car chase scene would be if all it was was one camera mounted on the hood of the car the star's driving? How awful a gunfight scene would be if there was just one camera fixed overhead?

This is more work for you directors/cameramen, sure, sure, but this has gone on long enough! The first company to shape up and take these opinions to heart will take the market over. How do I know? Because I'm a porn addict that would spend money hand over fist to get material of the ilk I'm describing, and I sure as hell ain't the only one.

This is why I am not much of a "gonzo" fan. Some are pretty hot, but I am a motion picture guy who loves the rare moment when hardcore sex is mingled with a feature film. I'll take a porno feature shot on FILM with a full plot, locations, costumes and real acting as my first choice anyday for getting off. All these things add to my mental fantasies. Someday, an adult film director will make Basic Instinct scene for scene like the mainstream version was made and go all the way with the sex scenes. One hot fucking movie... the formula is there. Too bad Paul Verhoven doesnt step in and show em how its done.

Some legit complaints there, but I like to watch close-up shots of penetration - I just love watching the action.

The guys face, I agree there, but on the camera work, it's really who's behind the camera. Personally I think Jules, Jordan, Mike john and a few others do camera quite well. Maybe I'm off in my sense of "camera work" though

Ryder, I would make one suggestion for a title to check out since you described what you did there. Check out Darkside from Red Light. The sex of Gonzo but built around costumes, plot and some pretty good action *cough* Penny Flame *cough*

Oh sheesh, halleluyah, and all that jazz to "not cutting to the male's face", pre pop! One of my editors told me once that it's nessecary to get a clean edit and some continuity thing that I didn't agree with. But there's got to be another way!
I personally love the penetration shot, though!

I concur a little with you twitch. I actually like a lot of the old stuff from the 80s. And I mention a lot of the classics when I can. But I don't think they're gonna go back to making or shooting on film like they did in the golden era. That is with full scripts and very high salaried stars. And for theatrical release. Those days are gone.

Sounds like you haven't heard of Steve Holmes and Manuel Ferrara. Never seen girls bored by these guys...

I don't mind relatively stationary cameras. I'd rather the camera's POV err on the side of being too static than being too choppy. But I guess I'm really thinking about the editing more than the actual camera work. It's just that I usually rather dislike MTV style editing in porn. It's okay in stripteases sometimes, but please, not in the sex. You know what I mean, when they show you enough to know that something hot occurred but the editors chopped it all up into quick cuts. I'm thinking of something along the lines of the old "Girlworld with Cassidey" movies as examples of over-editing.

If you go to the Feature forum, and read the post about couple's friendly porn, you might find some of the "passion" you are seeking. Hope that helps.

On penetration shots - Yes, I like them too, but some movies focus in on them too much. IE, sometimes like half the movie. But then again, maybe it's just me!

Admittedly, it is only rare that I get to watch a DVD, and the handful I have are actually pretty old, and now that you mention it, I haven't seen it for a while myself. It's a lingering complaint that I've never had a venue to express.

I hate it when they show the guy's face during the cumshot too.

I'm also not a fan of long penetration shots. Personally, I like seeing the girl's reactions in the scene.

I absolutely HATE it when a gonzo movie has waaaay to make quick cuts to different camera angles of the same thing. One example was some of the BIG WET ASSES series. I prefer nice slow camera movement, not always focused on the same thing. I like to take a long nice view of the womans "assets".

The camera moving around way to much is just annoying. You've got to stay at the good stuff more than 2 seconds because the camera guy gets all hyperactive and starts moving it all around continuously.

I don't notice camera work that much, but I do remember camera work that made a movie so much better. There's the mei-yu double penetration scene in "Unnatural Sex #1". The camera moved a lot but it focused on the good stuff.

I also liked the camera work in Balls Deep #1.

Also, please, do NOT have only one camera angle for a double penetration scene. The hottest one is the side view to me. Jules Jordan was a genius when he had that cool camera angle for the Jayna Oso scene in Ass Worship 6.

Some people complained about the extreme closeup POV in some of the old anabolic titles such as Perverted Point of View etc. I actually moved it. That's why Down the Hatch #3 was one of my favorites. The camera was so close that it actually bumped mei-yu in the head! Some POV movies are ruined though because they feel so far away still.

I'm not a fan of the Feeding Frenzy series as much as I used to be. I still feel they do zoom in a little bit for some parts. Give me the Down the Hatch type stuff anyday over that. Closeup blowjob scenes are the absolute best. That's why Rodney Moore stuff was always great I think.

I hate it when the description/photos on the box is misleading. It happens quite a lot too!

If you knew what the cameramen/directors get paid you would realize why most porn sucks so bad.
