I just saw this article, and, while Sasha Grey apparently hasn't wanted to do porn in a while (deciding to try to move on to such things as movies and TV), do you think James Deen is correct in saying her name is not even spoken in the industry any more?

I'm sure she's not talked about anymore. There are way more sexier girls than her that do the same circus acts that she did. I'm sure Hollywood is turning her out now

If she decided she wanted to come back to the industry, she'd have as much work as she wanted. Not only was she massively popular when she was doing porn, now she has the added "mainstream" allure.

She's not blacklisted? She is just considered another chick who entered the biz caused some buzz like lot of new chicks do and then left the biz after a couple years. There are a ton of other girls who came and went before Sasha Grey who were just as popular or more popular than her but you don't hear they names much because they are out of the biz. Out of sight, out of mind. For example when was last time you heard about Jewel DeNyle, Tori Welles, Alisha Klass, Ashlyn Gere, Christy Canyon, Stephanie Swift, Taryn Thomas, ...
Of course some decide to come back to porn eventually. So don't be surprised if Sasha comes back .. and don't be disappointed if she doesn't come back.

Nope.
Deen is talking about her isn't he? :)
Truth is Sasha Grey is one of the most successful, fascinating, controversial and intelligent women ever to have done porn and people will still be talking about her in 20 years time, whatever she's doing by then.

I seriously doubt she's blacklisted. I mean it's porn. Outside of knowingly spreading a disease, what the fuck can you do to get blacklisted in porn? She may be disliked by a majority of the people in the industry, but rest assured, if she chose to return to porn it would be a huge fucking deal and everyone would book her. Personally, I wasn't a big fan of Sasha, but I would love to see her beautiful ass bouncing around the industry again...

Sasha Grey is prob not blacklisted, all these 18 year old girls who enter porn always say they wanna be the next Sasha Grey. I mean she did a movie with Steven Soderbergh was on Entourage is an American Apparel model did a book and basically just tweets and DJs now.
My question is do 18 year old girls even know who Jenna Jameson is? She's really only had trouble with the law DUIs, domestic violence battery charges, copyright infringement, etc. and hasn't done anything in about a decade.

I'd imagine Mr Marcus has made himself unemployable to a lot of people following his incident last year.

I think there's a difference between being blacklisted and being disliked by the majority in the industry. It seems that when a girl quits porn and then badmouths the industry, she is disliked and scorned by lots of people in the industry. I see it happen all the time, most recently with jessie rogers and jenna presley. Now I'm sure if these girls wanted to come back and shoot scenes no one would say no, but that doesn't mean everyone would suddenly start liking them again. Seems like James isn't saying that sasha would never be allowed to shoot scenes again, just that people in the industry who used to be her friends are upset/resentful of the way they were treated by her when she decided to go mainstream.

Excuse me but Sasha does not just tweet and DJ now.
She has written another book, a novel, recently published:
http://www.amazon.com/The-Juliette-Society-ebook/dp/B009YN2NU4
And she's still getting mainstream movie work:
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2340248/
"Open Windows" in which Sasha Grey stars next Elijah Wood is probably going to be her next movie release.

I don't think she did anything except develop a reasonably successful mainstream movie career when some people in porn told her she wouldn't be able to. She certainly hasn't gone around badmouthing the adult movie industry.

Sasha Grey is 10 times better then Jenna Jameson, Sarah did everything in porn that Jenna didn't do. She did IR, anal, GB, DP and she didn't get any fake boobs done which is an good thing.

well if you read the article it was said that she just never spoke to anyone from the industry again when she quit porn. which isn't bad per-say, but I assume there are some people who thought of her as a real friend and were hurt by it.

well of course it's my assumption, just like you saying she's disliked because of jealousy is your assumption. We do know from a person in the industry that she is not thought of positively by a lot of people, but the reasons are all our own assumptions.

From following the industry pretty closely over the last handful of years, I know that a lot of prominent adult directors/producers/performers don't think much of her.

Fills exactly one Z-list celeb news cycle. (I'm pretty sure there are Youtube videos of cats doing absolutely nothing with more views and comments.) How that's evidence that people are guaranteed to still talk about her in 20 years will remain your secret, I guess.

I don't get why Sasha would be blacklisted.
She left porn and to my knowledge didn't badmouth the industry and even if she did, I doubt that would get her blacklisted.
As for success in the mainstream getting her blacklisted, didn't Teri Weigel attain some mainstream only to go back to porn?
I think they only thing that will get you blacklisted in the industry is disease.

I can't remember where it was said but I think someone quoted Janine saying she wanted to come back they wanted her to do stuff she didn't want to. I took that to mean she wanted lots of money and no one wanted to pay her a lot of money to do more of the same ol' same ol' and she'd have to step it up to justify a big payday. That's speculation on my part.

I have to imagine not only could Sasha go back to porn if she wanted to it would be a big deal if she did and most directors would happily have her back if they could afford it. I've never heard Sasha badmouth the industry and there's no reason why she wouldn't be welcomed back by people actually making movies. If other pornstars don't like her it really doesn't matter because they don't run any studios. As far as porn fans go I'm pretty sure Sasha still has her legion of porn fans who'd like to see her come back as well as tons of people who'd be curious to see what her return would be like. And of course the new fans she's gained from her mainstream work.

But why would she want to come back, what's the usual rate for a scene like 1,500 to -2000? She prob get's twice that just for making appearances at LA, Miami, Vegas, Chicago night clubs. So if she comes back is why would she?

Doing porn just for the money is not a good idea....
However why would she come back for just slightly better than basic rates?
You'd have to be stupid to offer Sasha Grey 1,500 to -2000 for a scene. Offer her 25K plus a percentage of the profits to play the lead in some interesting storyline porn and you might get somewhere.

^ The smart thing for her if she ever came back would be to relaunch her site. Try to work in the same way as Jelena Jensen, perhaps do g/g in the wider industry to get her name out there and as promotion for her site but only do b/g there.
The other alternative would be to only work for her own production company.
If Sasha came back to the industry she'd make money hand over fist for years and shoot straight back to being one of the biggest/ the biggest name in porn again.
On a side note about being black listed I remember seeing a documentary a few years back about the Tracey Lords scandal. At the end they asked the various talent interviewed (presuming they were still active) would they work with her again if she were to come back. All the guys said yes although most of the women said no. Anyone who leaves porn, even under a cloud can still come back. (although perhaps not a cloud dripping with STDs).

I'm saying if she came back for the sake of this discussion. Realistically, there's no good reason at this point for her to come back. I'm sure her personal appearances and various gigs pay her better than porn does and it's a lot more respectable work. Doing porn again at this point would be a big step backward and would probably hurt the progress she's made.

Only person I know of who pretty much blacklisted herself is Misti Dawn..after all the negative comments she made about various studios, producers and occasionally fellow co-stars she wound up on a lot of 'no'lists..she now blogs about videogaming, cosplay, etc

Siri says that by leaving her original agent she got effectively blacklisted because companies fear retaliation if they hire her.

I don't believe that. Siri launched her own paysite recently.

^ Yes, she launched a paysite, but according to a comment she wrote in March:
I'm in a contract dispute with my agent that's resulted in me not working for any major companies for close to two months now. All the money I've made in this time is from my custom clips and clips4sale store. Just goes to show that I'm not dependent on gonzo companies hiring me for stuff, but obviously I would like to work more, and will be very excited for things to get back to normal after the dust settles...
The website is a way for her to reach out directly to the customer. Her agency contract ends January 2014, and at that point she hopes that she will be able to start handling her own bookings with companies. For the time being, most companies won't book her directly, because they don't want to get caught up in whatever conflict she's having with the agent, and the agent has more pull in the industry than she does.
At least, that's my take on it.

There are three people on the porn blacklist: Donny Long (for porn wikileaks), Mr. Marcus (forging VD test results) and Marc Wallice (giving a bunch of girls HIV). You could add Traci Lords for her underage scandal but she is old enough now that even if she were still allowed in porn she would not get roles anyway. Brian Surewood is likely not blacklisted but since he is on parole he is likely not allowed to perform in porn as part of his punishment (Janine was punished in the same way by the CA Department of Corrections when she was on parole).

I would love to see her return and just do G/G with some of the reputable studios, because quality Lesbian scenes seems to be the only thing missing from her career.
I could also see her return as a director, that's safe enough to allow her to have one foot in the industry and one in Hollywood.

OK. But since March she's definitely worked with Nica Noelle's Girl Candy studios and also Girlfriends I think.

Her age certainly wouldn't stop Traci Lords getting roles.
This is a picture of her taken just two years ago
Traci Lords 2011
She's 45 now. 5 years younger than Magdalene St. Michaels was when she started her successful career in adult movies 7 years ago at the age of 50.
I agree with you about those men though.

^ In Beaver Street: A history of modern pornography, a writer who worked for a number of porn mags gives an inside view of the Traci Lords affair.
I think it goes without saying that she doesn't want to return to porn, but anyone who remembers the 80s is unlikely to trust her as far as Peter North could cum. Long story short, if 2257 had been in effect, she still would have gotten roles. She went to extreme lengths (including providing the government with faked documents, so she could get government issued IDs with her fake birthday) to get into porn, and her departure was clearly planned.
She owned "Traci I Love You," which was the only movie she owned and the only movie she made when she was of age. Weeks after her 18th birthday, she made her stunning announcement, all of her other titles were pulled out of circulation, and a scandal landed her on the front page. Soon after her "admission", she sold the rights to the title for $100,000. According to the writer, while she was doing porn, she often said that she was going to be the first porn star to use porn to build a mainstream Hollywood career. It seems she succeeded.
If she were to show up within miles of a porn set, anyone with any sense of history would run as fast as they could in the other direction.

Sasha Grey is awesome. She's given me hours of pleasure, and I'm sure she made some nice chump change for the chumps in charge of the change. I don't understand why people hate her. James Deen is a punk. He's a good performer, but he's a punk, and he's letting his mainstream moment in the sun go to his head. A true gentleman would never smack talk about a beautiful young woman who let him shpritz in her mouth. That's just bad manners.

Porn studios are notoriously cheap you think that will ever happen? And desperate girls who wanna be in porn or just get paid are no shortage. Even if they get Sasha Grey you know it will just get put on a tube site like every other porn clip.

You're right, I've worked for Girl Candy since January. However it's been about a year since I last shot for Girlfriends Films.
Nica Noelle is a wonderful director, and I love working for her. She has made special efforts to continue booking me for Girl Candy productions without any conflict with my former agent resulting from it.
My contract with my former agent relates only to paid bookings, so it has no effect on my ability to sign a website deal with another company, i.e. VNA. The VNA is not hiring me and paying me for work; I am filming my own content for my own site which is hosted by VNA and their servers and we share the profits. That has nothing to do with having an agent or not. Some agents like to believe they're entitled to profits or shares of invididuals girls' websites, but that is not actually an agent's job or part of what his license entitles him to do.
Since I stopped working for my former agent in January I have in effect been blacklisted, because many producers are led to believe that if they hire me, they will be "banned" from hiring any other girls who are currently represented by my former agent. It's a mean, manipulative control tactic but he's been doing it for years and getting away with it pretty easily.
