Prior to VHS, I assume all pornography was done on film 8mm-35mm. Since VHS, S-VHS, Hi-8, MiniDV, some pornos (especially gonzo/no plot) have abandoned the superior film format for quick post production turn around times. Now 30-40 years later, basically all if not most of those movies are invalid as they can't be re-released to current HD/UHD specs. Movies recorded on 1/2 or 2/3 inch sensor cameras could earn some life if re-encoded, de-interlacing, doubling the frame rate and up-scaling to 720p. But since the majority of producers went 1/3" or lower, the video will still look horrible. Do they regret not filming in 16mm or even 8mm while all these 60s, 70s, 80s b-movies get new life via boutique studios such as Vinegar Syndrome, Severin, Macabra etc.?

There was porn being shot on video as far back as at least 1972, I believe. Most of the shot on video productions were shot on MiniDV and Betacam, I believe. I'm not sure the producers of the "video age" care since most of those productions were churned out for a fast big profit, which the studios reaped back then. I'm not sure the higher price of needing people who knew what they were doing plus lab fees would equal whatever a Blu-ray right now would make now.
