With a lot of the current issues swirling around the adult industry (like this for example), I'm finding myself basically avoiding porn stars' twitter pages. I can't count how many times I've checked out the twitter page of some performer that I enjoy, only to be repulsed at some of their idiotic comments or casually racist sentiments. I find that it ends up ruining my ability to enjoy their work. I get it, in the realm of pornographic enjoyment I shouldn't let people being irrational or just plain stupid ruin my ability to enjoy a skin flick. But, I'm starting to think it's best to just stay away from them as an act of blissful ignorance. Does anyone else have this issue or am I taking crazy pills?
The problem with Twitter, and for that matter all social media, is people do not think before posting to it. Thoughts that used to never leave one's head now are published for the world to see. Everyone in this world is guilty of thinking things we shouldn't, but now with social media, too many let everyone know when they do, say, or think something stupid. Personally, I just refuse to have any presence on Twitter, Facebook, etc.

Absolutely! Porn Stars are knows for ther looks and for fucking. When they open their mouths, or minds some show that the only thing they should open is their legs. I won't mentions names, but a certain star that has been inactive for a couple years was showing on a daily basis that she was a high school drop out in porn only to have her ego stroked. One day, I had enough and told her I couldn't take anymore of her unintelligible posts and that I was unfollowing her. Within weeks, she had pulled out of LA and headed back to the east coast. I can't or won't take credit for that move, but I suspect someone told her that not only were her scenes over-saturating the market, but that her mouth should probably be closed. Kami once said, "Just because I fuck you, doesn't mean I like you". I think porn talent needs to consider, just because I like you, doesn't mean I want to hear everything you have to say. I enjoy what people have to say on twitter, but just because your a whore doesn't mean fans are interested in your opinions. Some talent is very down to earth and they have great posts, but if you know you're not that bright, been told your not bright or even chose porn over education, you may want to limit your online footprint.
For me, it kinda depends. If a girl comes of as a complete bitch on twitter or tweets an endless amount of idiotic comments then yes, the appeal is ruined. The same goes for girls who try too hard to appear as the "I do porn so of course I'm constantly horny/constantly having sex" type. Overall is better just to stay away from twitter really.
it depends. I'm not active on twitter now but.... Plenty of porn stars have accounts worth following. They post insightful, intelligent, funny, engaging things. there are other ladies who are (or play) dumb. I like intelligent women. Not only did I have to unfollow some women, I had to stop watching their films. I've seen women post things I thought were really fucking ignorant. Again, had to stop watching their films. Which is too bad, because many of them are really hot. Had I lived in another time, before twitter, I might have been happy just jerking my dick to them, assuming they were beautiful inside and out. oh well. such is life!
This thread raises a good question and I can see how knowing too much about a performer can ruin the fantasy. Personally, I can usually separate reality from the fantasy of the scene.
I agree. I pretty much only follow directors and studios almost exclusively. There are quite a few stars that I would rather just see having sex and not saying the ridiculous comments that I have seen. There are a few pornstars I follow because they are actually funny and entertaining, but the vast majority range from "meh" to "holy shit how can a person say this?!". I mean, they are entitled to their own opinions, but that doesn't mean that those opinions are always good. There was one pornstar who is so bad I can't even watch any of her scenes anymore, even though she used to be one of my favorites before I saw her twitter.
Yeah that's kind of where I'm at in regards to the range of what is said. Of course I'm not expecting tremendously insightful/hilarious posts, so I'm not especially bothered if they're saying vapid things. But it seems like far too often they'll just post something heinous that makes me stop and say "you can't be serious", and then I just lose all interest in viewing any of their content. I won't name names, but one was particular horrible in that she would make terribly xenophobic/racist remarks during a couple of recent national stories. I've definitely started to adopt the "pretend their social media profiles don't exist" attitude.
In that case, the answer is "yes, absolutely". That comes from being an unpleasant person in the first place and making no effort to hide it. You're definitely not on crazy pills nor are you being irrational. I know porn isn't something that's replicated in the real world but I don't buy into the fantasy malarkey of the performers as they're still real people having sex so their real personality makes part of the appeal. There was one performer I took a fair liking too but when she used a racial epithet in response to a guy who made a mild criticism of her on Twitter, I stopped following her and I can't say I'm sorry she retired.
OTOH that is true for ALL people... Has the Twitter of an Actor/Actress, Musician, Politician, Newsperson, Writer, Comedian etc. also the potential to add some aspects to the image of him, that we won't like, too? I'd think so. And then it depends on us whether we can separate their views and opinions (gun control, politics etc.) from their work we like, or not. - Also: Twitter is, at least partially, a performance game. I am not all I let people see of me on Twitter, and I assume that's true for everyone else on Twitter. So if a girl is of the "I present myself as the always horny slut, with crazier stories any day" type, the question I ask myself is not: Is that "real"/ "true"? But: Does her performance add to my entertainment & sexual arousal when thinking of her, or not? Thus I don't care whether e.g. Aria Alexzilla or Katrina Jade are in real life prudish instead of always horny... [;D] - It's in our power to select those we want to follow.
I've been lucky that no one I follow has yet had me not want to watch their scenes, the closest is that I've come is unfollowing a few. There are a number a things they can do that would warrant at least an unfollowing. From constantly spamming retweets of their scenes and praise of their fans, to acting like complete whores with no other thoughts besides sex, to even instantly taking sides in a particular hot topic going on right now. And don't get me started on the horoscopes and motivational posts.
I've unfollowed a few that all they do is spam stuff. Kinda like it's run by a pr rep. The stars I like and follow actually post stuff non porn, but also promote themselves. I've Had a few whose opinions I don't agree with, like with the whole James Deen situation, but its their opinion. ----Dread's Twitter---- Edited by - dread on 12/21/2015 9:42:00 AM
Going to dust off this thread. It's safe to say there have been a number of things that have flared up online that have seemingly caused some on here to rethink their monetary support of some performers. I won't tell people how they should post, but it might be more productive to drop that information in here. If for no other reason than it won't derail the individual performer threads in the 'Star Crossed' section, which seems to be happening.
I don't follow anyone on any social media platform but since comments from people in the industry often get mentioned in the various threads then I am aware of some of the things that these people write on their platforms. If they share some of their opinions on non-porn related subjects then that can have an effect on how we see them. Sometimes it's positive but it can be quite negative and when it is then that can be deadly to that persons career in the industry.
As a rule. Religion, politics and race relations are definitely subjects that people who earn a living from the entertainment industry should avoid.
I've been trying to decouple my own opinions from some of the weird stuff I see on Twitter, but Karma Rx's page sent me over the ledge. Apparently she's actually a 'Pizzagate' conspiracy theorist (didn't even know those people were still a thing), among other loony things she keeps firing off. I'm beginning to think the Internet was a giant mistake.
I disagree with the "just stick to [insert profession here]" rhetoric. People working in the entertainment industry are civilians and have to deal with these issues too and they shouldn't avoid talking about things they feel strongly about. They should just be mindful of the possible fallout.
When a porn actress (long retired now) used a racial slur in response to someone on Twitter, I was glad her true colours showed through.
At some point, more smart members of the entertainment industries will realise that oversharing on social media is actually detrimental to their careers and mental well-being. A few have already come to that conclusion.
Sharing their divisive political opinions won't change the world and providing too much insight into their opulent or debauched lifestyles can certainly alienate people that would otherwise support them financially.
Not to mention the needless exposure to trolls and harassment, public purity testing by their peers and the risk of getting "cancelled" from one day to the next.
There was a good reason the rich and famous employed PR companies all these years.
Eventually there will come a shift where people in the entertainment industries start rolling back their exposure on social media, using it only to post promotional material and links to their products.
Believe it or not, quite a lot of people actually like there being some mystique surrounding their idols.
Here's where you lose me in the argument. Entertainers aren't normal people in so much as they have to have two faces. The one they show their friends and family and the one that they show the rest of the world. To do otherwise is to risk alienating their fans. I will point you to Mel Gibson who was likely an a..hole long before we knew that about him but he wisely kept it hidden behind his good guy image.
Now if you want to argue that it's a good thing we know what an a..hole Mel is or that your retired performer used a racial slur then I'm willing to concede that maybe it is from our point of view but it certainly isn't from their perspective. They would likely prefer that we hadn't found out those things about them. For that reason I think it's best for anyone who needs a fan base to earn a living to void the subjects I mentioned if they don't want it to affect their careers.
No it only makes me appreciate and love them more. For example, I literally havent seen one lesbian scene of Ginger Banks and Im a big fan of hers just from how she is on twitter. I love her courage, passion, and energy in wanting to make the industry better. Some performers (I shall not name), dont give to flying flips about the industry or fans. They just want to get a paycheck and call it a day. Ginger loves what she does a passion. She oozes positive energy and I love her personality too. So again without even seeing a lesbian scene of hers Im a big fan. Then when I think about those Im already a fan of like Abigail, Whitney, Casey, and Cadence just to name a few. Following them on twitter and knowing they stand for what is good in the world. They want racism to end. They want abuse in the industry to end. They support each other and anyone else they will go out of their way to support. Like it makes me an even bigger fan than Im already am.
Now, the only one I would say Im not a fan of from following twitter is Brandi Love. She showed her true colors. She dont support BLM. Im just going to leave it at that because if I keep going Id have so many unpleasant things to say so Im just not going to go there.
^True there's always the upside of finding out they're a cool/thoughtful person in addition to being a great performer. I probably shouldn't take as dim a view of it as I have, considering I find myself being more pleasantly surprised than irritated.
It mystifies me that she gets so much flack for this, yet I've seen at least a dozen big name porn stars stating "all cops are bastards" and nobody bats an eyelash. I've even seem some openly advocate for violence against police officers, a la Shaun King. Either we should criticize both off-base sides of the fence, or we should let both be.
Of course, Brandi Luv gets a bunch of hate for simply being a Trump-supporting Republican...who - to my knowledge - has not tweeted out anything controversial other than run-of-the-mill right-wing opinions.

^It's false equivalence to put Karma RX's conspiracy bullshit up with a very real fear and anger that many people of color feel when it comes to the police. There is no both sides of the fence in this case.
^^ With Brandi its not hate she gets from being a Trump in my opinion. I cant speak for everyone but when she said she dont care about the George Floyd situation thats when I unfollowed her. Then you have girls like Whitney called her out on all her tweets not in support of BLM and she called herself "forgiving" Whitney only to block her. Even Remy was appalled by Brandi tweets.
I agree with you on that. It can be disastrous from their perspective. I personally welcome a no filter approach on social media as I feel if I am going to pay my money to an entertainer, I'd rather know who I'm dealing with as a person.
Mel Gibson is a great example, I've paid only for one cinema ticket for a movie he's had a significant role in since fall from grace.
I disagree. Karma's conspiracies may be way out in left field, but they aren't advocating violence against or attempting to tarnish an entire profession of people. Her poor choice of words in regards to the George Floyd case may have been the straw that broke the camel's back. But I saw various fans and a few fellow porn stars calling her a "Trump supporter" as if it is some sort of crime to support the country's president. That makes it seem like it was about more than just her insensitive remarks on one subject. People have been getting upset with Brandi for awhile over her Republican views and were looking for a reason to cut her off. Brandi not supporting BLM might go against the current social media narrative, but that doesn't make her a racist. Very few high-profile accounts had been tweeting about BLM for years up until the last couple of weeks.
Whitney Wright instigated that entire exchange and then played the victim. I don't see anything wrong from Brandi there. And I love Remy LaCroix as a performer but she's one of the last people I would look to for a sensible opinion on just about anything.
^As it pertains to Brandi, she literally was featured in a Daily Beast article about being a prominent Trump supporter and it never got her any serious push-back from anyone in the industry. When she went on her rant about not caring about Floyd's murder, opposing BLM, AND threatening to shoot people in the face while hoping for a 2nd Civil War is when people finally had enough and started pushing back pretty hard.
And regarding Karma, she's been posting Pizzagate conspiracy craziness & accusing groups random groups (and critics) of wanting to enslave and/or murder children. That's so far removed from any kind of political discussion that trying to equate it with people who say disparaging things about law enforcement during a time of social unrest around abuse of force (so it's uh kind of relevant) is an absolute stretch.
^^ I dont agree with Whitney instigating it. Alot of performers are speaking up for BLM. They are going out and actually protesting. Its not just Whitney but Abigail, Katrina, and Demi just to name a few. So when Brandi is sitting back saying how she dont care like anyone with a heart would care. Even if you dont agree with all the protesting at least have a heart about an unarmed black man got smothered for almost 9 minutes. He wasnt shot he was smothered. On top of that he was calling out for his dead mother. Like just hearing that is sad and Brandi basically showed she doesnt care and alot of performers basically was appalled by it. I guess it doesnt surprise me now knowing she is a Trump supporter because its not like I heard Trump showing a heart when it comes to the matter of George Floyd death or the fight to end racism. Brandi has shot alot with black performers but yet showed her lack of care for blacks. That showed me its all about the money to her and thats something I dont get down with.
^Remy has a history of being a drama queen. The fact that she's retired and un-retired with more frequency than a professional wrestler shows that. Then there's the debacle with her ArchAngel contract back in the day, Twitter beefs with other porn stars, etc.I didn't know about the Daily Beast article, but I'll take your word for it. I guess what I'm trying to say is they use her being a Trump supporter as ammunition against her now that they have a more legitimate reason to be upset with her. If being a Trump supporter truly didn't matter, why would so many people (fans and fellow porn stars alike) feel the need to hurl it at her like an insult? And people can push back all they want, but how is her hoping for a 2nd Civil War any less ridiculous from them calling for a revolution?
I follow Karma Rx so I'm aware of the Tweets you're talking about. I still don't think it's any worse than advocating for violence against police officers, but to each their own.
The vast majority of porn stars I follow are down with BLM, and many are actively protesting. I have no problem with it at all. But if literally around 2% of the adult industry has a different opinion, I don't see why that should draw such vitriol. I found the George Floyd video very disturbing, sad and unfortunate. I also understand (but do not totally agree with) the argument that Floyd had committed some rather heinous actions of his own during his lifetime and is perhaps not the most sympathetic figure. And while I don't agree with that narrative, I don't feel the need to aggressively scold somebody who does, which as far as I can tell is what Whitney Wright did. She has to understand that Brandi is just as entitled to her opinions as she is.
Also, what evidence do we have that Brandi Love has no "care for blacks"? That's a strong claim.
^^ Just because she had some drama in the past, doesn't mean that she can't have sensible opinions. She left the first time because she needed time to rest. She left again to start a family. I don't understand why this is a strike against her. Life happens dude. She was right to be mad at Arch Angel because they weren't treating her right.
Were all entitled to our opinions, but we're also entitled to critize those opinions. Brandi literally said that she only cared about this for two days and she openly said that she won't support BLM. it sounds like she doesn't really.care about us.
Because you claimed that the hate Brandi is getting is all attributable to her simply being a Trump supporter. But the fact that she has prominently been one for years now without it ever resulting in the kind of flak she's currently getting from her peers pretty clearly disproves that. The fact that it's coming up *now* is almost certainly like with any work dynamic: People that you work with that may disagree politically but leave it alone in the interest of maintaining a stable work environment. Once a person starts saying unhinged stuff, people don't really feel the need to be polite or diplomatic about their differences of opinion. Also unless I missed something, the performers tweeting in support of BLM have (at the most extreme) been calling for the de-funding or disbanding of police departments. That's wildly different that openly musing about the possibility of running around with a gun and shooting your political opponents. More to the point: Not sure why you think I'm under some obligation to rationalize the behavior of performers that you've yet to actually name. If you have an issue with something a performer says/tweets, then by all means name it or them. But I specifically said this was about people following a performer and later being repelled from enjoying their work due to their online presence. I'm not going to go around taking surveys of every performer before I decide who I can or can't be annoyed by.
I am a newbie here, living in Germany, but watching this very controversal discussion more and more with my mouth which is open cause I dont understand anymore. First I got a notion that people forget how a discussion works. Diversity of opinion and having modified opinions seems no longer exist. For example, if Brandi Love does not support this movenment, she must not necessarily be against it or does not like blacks. She had a lot of shootings with black coworkers as you know. And then it seems for me more and more, that people who has a different opinions, who are saying calm down a little bit or we don't have to go too far in this subject/problem are automatically against all this. Getting attacked from all the others, the supporters or movement leaders concerning BLM within the pornbiz, means performers like you mentioned it before. And even the ones who are silent especially on their twitter account get under pressure. I cannot understand it, this is far away from my understanding of democracy, free speech and diversification. Partial I can feel that some of them are frightening and do not twitter before saying somehting wrong. I was in contact shortly on twitter with a woman who said that she is in a minority in the biz. But my life experience tells me that not all who are now 100% on the side of BLM are maybe not really this, it is a kind of opportunism and recreancy not to say what they really are thinking. But I would also understand this, fearing of getting harm and disadvantage in the future in this industry. They need money, that's why they are all there and so they are silent, better decision. Maybe I am wrong, as I said, I only watch this dispute since about 10 days. So am I absolutely wrong with my opinion or assessment, what do you think? But not forget, I have sympathy for BLM and was always as an older man pro Black people concerning full equality within a society generally, e.g. I was a fan of Martin Luther King or later other black activists for human rights and black rights. This is not the point of it. Thanks.
Fair point. Maybe I'm being too hard on Remy but I felt the way she handled the Arch Angel deal cemented her place as a drama queen. Which there's nothing terribly wrong with. Usually the best at anything are drama queens (look at sports, for example). I just don't look to those people for their opinions on societal issues, but maybe I'm in the wrong for that.
Since when does not supporting BLM mean that you don't care about black people? Like I said in the previous post, I hadn't heard much more than a peep about BLM for a good 3-4 years and now it's mandatory to support it? That's nonsense.
I never said you had to rationalize anything. I was asking about the backlash against Brandi Love. My point remains that if it truly didn't matter that she supported Trump, then there would be no reason to bring it up in the first place. But it seems that a lot of people have brought it up and thrown it in her face. That shows it does matter, and that people were just waiting for an opportunity to throw it in her face.
I'm pretty sure a revolution would also include running around shooting your political opponents.
Unfortunately that is the climate in the US right now. "Silence is violence" and if you don't support their movement you will be viewed as an enemy. They do not seem to believe in freedom of speech as far as I can tell. A lot of people - of all races - feel bullied into supporting this movement.
I agree that if Brandi was truly a racist, she would not have done so many scenes with black men.
Right, I think there are people here in Germany too, who have nothing to do with politics, we here say: "the silent majority". Or she thinks don't spin or panic. It is too much and to say it frakly, last week seeing these pictures and stuff in TV from the US I honeslty thought, be really careful else there could be a civil war in one or another way. I am serious. I am absolutely on the side of the BLM but the key word is equality. Of all races who live in the us. Black, red, yellow, green, white. Only this can keep or hold a society together, if this failed then "Houston you have a problem", a big problem. And I have questions, as to speak with "Ellie to Ziva", a lot of questions (NCIS). I don't know Brandi, but the US is still one of a few feal democracy. And the the good thing is, you have always, and here soon, the choice to stop an administration, in this Case Trump, by voting for another person as president, here: Joe Biden. Me, myself beiing new on twitter since 2 weeks, hazard to the incidences in the US. I wrote and follow any porn stars since. I can full agreed what you and others are saying about Twitter tweets these days from porn perferomers. But a little bit more about this later in this topic/thread or another one. It is a fascinating time and nobody knows where to go. And then we still have Covid-19.
We seem to be going in circles here, as you continue to sidestep what I've already said & insist on reiterating the same point. I've already stated that people who obviously disagreed with her views on Trump were content to leave it alone, until she started saying callous & hateful nonsense. This idea that because people have political differences with her that it automatically invalidates objecting to her saying hateful things is just weird. And once again, you've refused to offer any kind of examples to substantiate your point other than "well revolution would probably include killing people". Find me an example of a performer explicitly threatening to shoot people then maybe I'd say you have a point.
Please identify for me which government agency is attempt to silence Brandi's opinion, because otherwise it absolutely is not a free speech problem. But even on the broadest level, freedom of speech is a two-way street. You're welcome to whatever contrarian opinion you have, and people are free to vocalize their disagreement & criticism. If you demand the former without accepting the latter, you don't actually care at all about free-speech. And there's really no non-flippant way to say this: The idea that because a person has sex with a black person they can't be a racist is not only illogical on its face, but is disproved by like, all of American history.
I actually do agree that many of the performers riding in hard right now to support BLM were silent for 4-6 years, which they absolutely should have to rationalize if they're going to insist that other people get on board as well. Because otherwise, it makes them look like bandwagon jumpers who are trying to get some kind of social media clout. However, that by no means should give people like Brandi a pass from deserved criticism.
I agree high_flyin5 to what you said, I tried in my 1. tweet here just to say, that only in the media is a more or less pressure to these performers who are not active for BLM, at least verbally in words. I have seen any examples in recent days there. I do agree concerning the ones who "suddenly" come out and accuuse here and there and nearly everyone, who failed in the past. And bandwagon jumper is the right expression for this kind of behavior. They never said any word, even if these incidents happened years ago, why now ? t seems one starts and then 1 by 1 follows just llike the domino theory. The problem is that I read in tweets of porn stars that they talked about the one and other of them that they are silent, sounds like impeachment. "If you are silent you are guilty or at least suspected..... I wrote a reply 5,6 days ago on twitter concerning the solong silence in the industry about those deficits and problems and asked them why they are changing now things and not years ago. And any female peformers liked what I wrote and gave me small answers or likes on this tweet reply of me. I do not mention names but there were 4 to 6 performers who agreed with me, even one male perfomer, I guess first name was Alex....
^Right, I think a big issue is that there clearly is a distinction between performers who have been speaking on issues related to this for years (thinking of performers like Charlotte Sartre or Ashley Fires), and ones who showed up in the last couple weeks with this newfound zeal. And I actually think showing up late is perfectly fine as long as they're actually invested in the given issue and are willing to acknowledge that they were on the sidelines most of the time (And in fairness, I've seen performers like Ivy Lebelle talk about as much). But there have been quite a few people who showed up late, and are pretending that they've always been down with the movement. They *absolutely* are fair game for criticism.
Yes, I read any comments just today of some of those girls. And I can follow your classification. What I maybe, really maybe don't understand at all, maybe because of not having "insider and background news and facts", that women like Leigh Raven or just Charlotte Sartre, also Dee Williams and others, who are known for going to their boundaries and even a little bit forward and doing very often hard and weird stuff including SM things, KINK e.g. where it is ordinary to go to limits and so on came out. So it was a surprise to hear this just form Charlotte or Leigh about this. Charlotte did a lot of hard stuff and watching from "outside" only as a viewer it seemed she always had pleasure doing those stuff. Strange for me. But okay she said this long time before. And I also aks me why they did not stop doing this films. All in all any unclear statements.
