I'd like to know has anyone bought any recent Video Marc Dorcel titles not available on Wicked's catalog? The reason is my multi region player died, so i wanna know if regular (NTSC) players can still play their products. I have quite few that i purchased in the last 6-8 months and they play fine, however i know they have made few changes so I'm hoping that the new format is not PAL only even though on their website they say: All the DVDs are "All Zone" Playable on Pal, Secam and NTSC. I've bought a few. Most have been NTSC. However, the ones that are PAL are not really Marc Dorcel DVD's. They are DVD's made by another company and discributed by Marc Dorcel.
In my case, the two DVD's were the Sarah Young double feature DVD's.
The one thing that I've noticed about these two discs is that the logo on the label is "Marc Dorcel Selection" whereas the discs created by Marc Dorcel just say "Marc Dorcel" on them.
I can't say that this is accurate across the board or if it is just the case with the 2 discs that I bought. It's probably more fair to say that you would be taking your chances with DVD's that VMD just distributes.This has been the case with every VMD produced disc that I have bought.
aybesea, i know that. However, i have just gotten some DVDs (Le Princess et la Pute and Illusions) and an usual free DVD from Dorcelshop.com, in this case Les Vampires (Metro's Vampires), and indeed has "selection" written over VMD label, but my player plays it in black and white (which is usually case with PAL DVDs), but when i went to their site and looked for that title, i found the same notice, and the DVD has "ALL" label. Weird. M
Bill, you are generally right. But not in the case of Dorcel. They specifically state that the DVDs are compatible with NTSC. Though I they don't state it for individual DVDs, just as a general statement.
If you're talking about the web site, I'm sure you're right. I'm referring to the "ALL" label on all of their DVD covers. On all of my Dorcel DVD's the label uses the logo containing a Globe with "ALL" written inside of it. The globe with a number or ALL is the symbol for region.
Nowhere on any of the cases of the Dorcel DVD's that I own does it say anything about NTSC or PAL, which I think is stupid. It can only lead to confusion.
Now, I'm going to lead to some more confusion. When looking at my Dorcel DVD's to confirm what I just wrote, I noticed that one of my NTSC Dorcel discs "Une Fille Brulante" is a "Selection" disc. So I guess that this confirms that not all "Selection" discs are PAL.
the Marc dorcel's DVD system are simple to understand :
ZONE : ALL you can play DVD all over the world SYSTEM : NTSC for all MARC DORCEL'S Production (french movie and more) PAL for all movies distributed by marc dorcel. US movie for exemple. And it's easy to understand. Why US people (who play ntsc) buy US movie in france (with french dialog) and pay shipping, when they can buy it in their own country :)

Yes except many of the Marc Dorcel Selection movies are not American movies. I have "Une fille brulante" too and it's a Spanish movie (from IFG studio). Many are originally Italian and German productions.
There are quite a few Marc Dorcel movies that are currently available in Europe on DVD that are not currently available in the US (even some that were originally movies made in the US). Some of these movies will eventually be available in the US, some may not. Either way, why wait. So far, all of the titles produced by Dorcel that I have bought from Europe have all contained US dialog as well as other languages (the same as when it is eventually distributed by Wicked in the US).
As for the titles that are only available in French, when the choices are French dialog, or nothing at all, I'll take the French dialog.
IMO, Wicked is making a mistake not releasing Dorcel titles sooner. Many are already available in Europe on DVD and Wicked hasn't even released the VHS version yet. Even when they do release it, they don't do it simultaneously on DVD. It's not like they have to do anything different for the US release. The release from Dorcel already has the appropriate US labelling requirement on it. Wicked just needs to package it with their own logo. I think that they are throwing away money by waiting. They are just losing sales to the people (like me) who won't wait for them to get around to releasing the movie at their leisure.
