Although Samsung's download instructions seem to imply that the firmware download includes DOS software, it doesn't. It just includes the firmware executable. Can someone tell me how to (or point me to a site the will tell me how to) create a DOS bootable CD, which also includes the firmware executable. My machine is running Windows 7. Thanks. [Link] |

| Bill All-Star Member 5334 Posts 6/00 | Today, I found a page that someone put together to give detailed instructions on how to apply the patch using a USB Flash drive. I wasn't able to use MiniDOS with the HP Format Tool because it doesn't support FAT32. But, since I now had an idea of what I needed to do, I found this page that had MS DOS Files for Windows 98. Once I got the flash drive loaded, everything worked perfectly. I don't think that I was actually exposed to the problem that the firmware fixed because I didn't have S.M.A.R.T turned on, which, I believe is what issued the identify command that causes the conflict with an NCQ write command. If I was exposed to the problem, it's only been for the last two weeks as it wasn't until I installed a new SSD into my PC that I changed the SATA mode to AHCI from IDE. |
