Hi folks,
Did not take me long to figure out , just played with the mouse and looked at different options like send to etc. Down loaded from site "Videobox" sent to my desktop which i don't like so getting rid of those soon, then the computer decided to send the movies to my pictures folder. Well, from there i sent to E-Rom (my default dvd burner) and it burned to a 2 hour disc just 30 minutes and i said there must be a way i can put more on ths disc like three 30 minute segments to save money. "videobox" allows one to download parts of movies. So the burn took and played fine on the computer but would not play on dvd machine not connected to computer, Not compatible comes on screen. So how to get more on a disc and make the disc play on other pieces of equipmen?. lost. Thanks for any help.
I want to thank everyone on their inputs. The resolution came by my downloading "Nero 11", and figuring it out. At this point i have downloaded and put adult entertainment clips ranging fron 12 mins up to 30 mins. onto a dvd+r disc 120 minute, the import, pre-rendering, then transcoding and coping to disk. When done it ejects the disc. Took a little time to go thru trial version and found out at the 11th hour i could not get it to play on another player without Adobe playerX, but accomplished it. Again , thanks to everyone that supported me, u all have been great. Trying to figure out how to get a bigger pix on my 22" screen, it must be in the settings.

^Hey you had this discussion going in another thread "do i need software to copy scenes ?" and I asked a bunch of questions in that other thread, to which you never replied. My questions were aimed at this very issue you are asking about now.

To the point: You will have to "author" the DVD if you want to play it on a standalone DVD player. "Authoring" is a specific procedure, requiring specific software, by which a video is burned to a DVD in such a manner to be recognized by a standalone DVD player. That is an oversimplified explanation but good enough for right now.
But...SOME (depending on the manufacturer and model number) DVD players have the capability to playback video files from a "data disc" (what you did was burn a "data disc"), without the need to "author" a DVD. You'd have to research your particular DVD player and learn if it has the capability to play direct video files, and if so, what video formats can it handle. Such as .avi, .mpg, .flv, .wmv, and there are more.
Also, what is the video format of the files downloaded from Videobox ??
What is the make/model of your DVD player?
Do you need the DVD to be played on ANY dvd player (a friends, or at work, or a different room), or will it be for just this one particular DVD player?

You are right. First , iam sorry i did not reply to u. I have not been feeling well and should go to my topics and make sure i do not start a new thread.
That will not happen again. The dvd player that i have is Panasonic DMR-EZ48V. Regarding "Videobox" i will have to get back to u on that as i do not have a clue.
I'll stay on this thread and answer all your questions from that one here. I'll be in touch soon. Sorry about the mess up on the two thread deal. Thanks for sticking in there for me to help me. You will see i will do better in the days, months, basically the future on doing things right. Thanks ninja1, u have been tolerant and it is appreciated. I'll be back on, in about 48 hours.

I would like it to play on nay stand alone dvd player or dvd/burner combo in light of the fact that over the past ten years i have gone thru 3 vhs/ dvd player/ burners, actually wearing them out. So if my present one has a problem and someday i get a new one i would like that video to be useable on my computer as well. Ok, just came back to add that on. I will find out the format from "Videobox".

"Videobox" has wmv. It fustrates me in light of the fact that these software downloads are intimadating to me until i get use to it and then iam like robotic. "Videobox" allows for an individual to pick a scene out of the movie that may last(most up to 30 min) but it is put in my pictures section and iam going to look @ a way to group them together and place them on one disc. Does Authoring allow it to play on mist players? What about DMR, it does not exist here, but can that be circumvented? Thanks for reading. Simon

I looked at Videobox FAQ page; it says files downloaded from Videobox are WMV or H.264 formats (customer's choice).
And I looked up the specs for Panasonic DMR-EZ48V; it has capability to play DivX format.
They are not compatible. The Panasonic cannot directly playback the Videobox downloads. You will need to use DVD authoring software to create a DVD which is playable in the Panasonic (or any other standalone DVD player).
Yes. That is the whole purpose of authoring; to create a standard DVD which will play on most DVD players.
I think you mean DRM. If DRM does not exist, that is a GOOD thing. It means: no need to worry about circumventing anything.
To proceed further, you will need to find and install DVD authoring software and learn how to use it. Maybe some other members can recommend one which is simple to use. I hesitate to recommend things I have not used myself. FWIW from some quick research I saw this AVStoDVD which looks promising.

As an alternative to messing around with burning discs and worrying about file formats, you might want to consider buying a media player device. They're marketed under various brands in different parts of the world, but they're all pretty similar under the skin; basically, it's a box about the size of a thick paperback book that you hook up to your TV like a DVD player. There's room inside for a 2.5" hard drive (laptop size). You can load the thing up with your entire collection of porn or whatever else. It will play almost any file format that you throw at it.
Thread
I have a Patriot Box Office. It didn't cost me very much and overall has been very satisfactory.

I looked over the link carefully, have not downloaded it yet. My concern is that of putting more than one 30 minute segment on the dvd+R, as "VideoBox" does this to help give customers a choice in what part of the film they want if not all. I put the dvd+R into my Macbook and it would not play as the burner info said it would play on most dvd players (just wierd). So the resolution is to down load a good software site and hopefully it is userfriendly as if this desktop HP that i do most of my work on in light of the fact that the hard drive is so big, goes bad all those dvds i could copy only in 30 minute segments would be for not. I hope someone can help me with software info as Ninja1 mentioned so i would no what i am getting into. Just need the right path.

Don't take this the wrong way...
Do you have an experienced computer-user friend who can help you, in person? Honestly this stuff can get complicated and not everyone has the inclination and patience to tackle it; a forum discussion is not the most efficient way to accomplish it. I bought a digital media player years ago so I could quit messing with authoring DVD's; it became too tedious and time-consuming for me. Not saying you can't do it, but be prepared for some inevitable learning frustrations; even the best authoring softwares can be temperamental and quirky. And it is a slow process, taking hours to do one DVD. I'm not trying to discourage you, just letting you know ahead of time what you are getting into, so you won't be surprised.
I will assist as much as possible, but as I said I have NO experience using any of present-day DVD authoring softwares; my only knowledge is gained from google searches, and that's it.

The authoring software will fit multiple scenes on 1 dvd. Easily 2 hours or more of total video time.

I spoke with The "Bestbuy" sales on the issue @ hand and the guy said that Roxi Burn is the software that can help. I hate( despise) the idea of the price tag, but i want to get the most out the "Videobox" and he said its not that complicated for newbees. I know that free software can be used, but if iam going to go crazy doing it, it's not worth it. My friend that died a year ago was into Macs alot, did copy alot of porn. I mean alot. Cases full.
He showed it to me and the quality was darn good. But, he got sick and the time was limited and was not meant to be spent on this, may he rest in peace.
Comments show on that site recommended that it is a bit difficult with windows 7 and that's what i use. Fustrated as hell.

^ Seriously, look into Nero 11.
No need to pop for the "platinum" version.

Before spending money on software, consider Harri Patel suggestion about a digital media player. Depending on which software and which media player, it might be more expensive. But when making comparisons, don't forget the cost of blank DVD's and the time/effort for creating and encoding and burning the DVD's. Maybe you can get a BestBuy salesperson to demonstrate a digital media player to you, so you can see how the concept works.

I called best buy and they told me that it would only allow me to stream to the tv and not have a physical dvd in my hand to keep forever. This morning i awoke to wonder, should i get roxio burn for $30.00 from satples or Nero 11 for $70.00? Yes, i have not a clue as to what is going up on the screnn once i put the burning software in the tray, but the time to do it is not the issue, rather it is a road map to know how to get it done. Just cannot imagine wmw (three 30 minute scenes) to disc with the authoring to be completely impossible or i will be just screwed out of my money for that software. Thanks for thinking about me though, appreciated.

I did download the Trial period and copied two scenes to DVD+R but i told an online tech that it would not play on the stand alone player, so he said go to Nero vision and change to standard play. How do i find this? I told him that Nero had a section to author the dvd. It stated in Nero go here to make it play on all players. I think that part is on automatic though? Automatic was recommended. It did not say NERO vision. Can u advise me? Thanks ahead for any help.

^ You need to create a DVD movie -- not merely copy files to a DVD -- in order for them to play on a stand-alone DVD player.
Nero 11 is a suite of programs bundled together.
That's what makes Nero such a great value.
Read this Nero Vision manual to get an idea how Nero Vision works.
This is the Nero Vision manual for version 10, but it should be able to get you started.
There is a learning curve, and I'm wondering about your ability to perform tasks.
Not intended as an insult, but you don't really seem to know how to do even the most basic things.
Once you learn the basics, the entire process is really quite simple.
Initially, it is the concepts, terminology and actually trying it that is the hurdle.
I'm still using Nero 6 -- on Windows XP SP3, no less -- and still am able to do everything without issues.
Unfortunately, I've not used Nero 11, so I can't tell you blow-by-blow what to do.
If you make an honest effort to learn the program, I'm sure some of us here will help you.

I found some YouTube tutorials for Nero 9; and one for Nero 10. It may be helpful to take a look, just to get a feel for how things are done, keeping in mind your version might have slight variation from what you see in the tutorials.
Nero 10 Tutorial IMO the menu part is overdone.
Nero 8/9 Tutorial Example with 1 clip
Another Nero 8/9 tutorial Another with 1 clip
And another Nero 8/9 tutorial Data disc, but multiple clips being added

Please read this thread:
New WD TV
I just posted there (as a result of thinking through your situation).
A hardware media player is really the way for you to go. Burning DVD videos for your downloaded files is just such a time-consuming pain-in-the-ass. Take this from someone who's been through all of this already.

Hi,
I have "Nero 11" up and running. The trial version gave me a slight understanding, till i tried to get it to play on other machines and towards the end of the trial a tech agent told me i needed to have Adobe player X to play the dvds on another player . Well i find in the purchased downloaded version with adobe installed, i have done it. I go to Nero, Nero 11, the video and pick dvd-video and import videos. Pre-render, whatever that means , it looks to be sorting out the videos, then speed( i picked th lowest for best quality). Then burn. Takes 45 minutes for 4 clips that range from 20 minutes to 30 minutes. It transcodes, writes to disc and burns, never saw the author. I called best buy and a geek squad agent said if it plays on other machines it has been finalized. Read the manual u gave me and looked at everything, gave it a try. I believe i did it. So thanks goes out to everyone that partaked in helping me, it is apprecited. I edited my earlier thread with info but realized that would not allow the 'Thank U' to everyone to be seen. If i have missed anything regarding burning, iam all ears. Thanks to everyone again.

All those steps you described, combined together, in total, is authoring.
Believe? It's easy enough to test, just try the disk in your standalone DVD player and see if it automatically loads and shows a menu on your TV screen and allows you to use your DVD remote control to select and play you choice of scenes, just like a regular DVD rented from Blockbuster.
