Download Managers, also known as bulk downloaders and the ilk, are generally banned or barred from use at most sites that I have been to. The following is a quote from the "terms of service" from Suze Randall as an example: (I know it is all in shout mode)

DOWNLOADING IMAGES AND OTHER MATERIALS FROM THIS SITE IS RESTRICTED TO NORMAL BROWSER ACCESS. BULK SITE DOWNLOADERS ARE NOT PERMITTED. USERS OF SUCH BULK DOWNLOADERS MAY HAVE THEIR ACCESS PRIVILEGES REVOKED.
But then again there are downloaders which can behave nicely, and download the files one at a time, great when you have a slow connection and want to download some big files overnight. The main attraction then is that you can queue your downloads, also great for software downloads, to do it at a time the server is less busy.
You can set it up to download one file at a time. Or to do multiple pieces off of one file. Really convienint in downloading large files when the server allows multiple connections.
Or for servers that are really busy it will keep trying until it gets the file for you.. or you can queue it up and then have it download the files at a different time. you can organize your downloads from the begining.
I used to use flashget. It is a good as far as downloading files. But it also downloads a lot of adware and spyware. I used to have a lot on my comp everytime I ran a check but since I got rid of flashget, it's clean everytime I check it. Maybe its worth the trade off to some people though.
Jcjarra - which download manager do you use now? Is it as good as Flashget? I like this proggie very much, but might be absolutely right with this adware thing. I just thought to register Flashget. If there is no adware after that it might be worth it?!
iTS true that FlastGet is adware based. I think it installs Aureate. But after FlashGet installed I just uninstalled Aureate.
FlashGet just gives me a warning everything it loads but now it doesn't have anymore adware downloading to my computer. So I think its great. I am using version 1.60
I'm using GetRight, and it works nicely most of the time; for example, I haven't encountered any problems when downloading movies from Allinternal and Givemepink
I use FreshDownload, which is free and works fine. There's a resume function and you can configure it to shut down the PC once everything has been dl-ed.

Try iGetter for the mac. It's shareware, but you can use it as long as you want without paying. It just starts up with a reminder to make you feel guilty.
