This is a real pain considering I'm usually downloading files > 1 GB in size. - Doesn't seem to be site dependent - Jules Jordan, Brazzers, Wicked, Mofos all have the problem - Doesn't seem to be browser dependent - Firefox and Chrome both do it. - Not sure if it's computer dependent but that one will be a little harder to test - No evidence of other issues with the internet - web surfing, and most streaming don't have any problems - Every once in a while I'll lose my wireless connection but that doesn't coincide with the failed downloads - 12 Mbps connection What I've done in the past is start a few downloading then go to work or go to bed and when I come back they're done. Now sometimes they say "failed" and sometimes they appear OK until trying to watch them, then only a fraction of the video is there. I'm not sure where to start because although I can re-create the symptoms I don't know what settings or other information to look at. Any tips? BSL [Link] |

It can automagically recover from broken/interrupted downloads and resume them without having to start over. You can stack up a bunch of downloads and set up pre-determined rules for how you want them handled. (one at a time sequentially, or 3 at a time simultaneously or whatever) You can set a maximum number of retries before giving up. Most download managers have similar features to these, many folks have their chosen favorites, there are a number of available choices. DownThemAll is the one I have used for 5+ years. [Link] |

[/quote] Yeah, files that would have been unheard of at one time seem like nothing to me anymore. 4TB HDDs are under $200 so why not see my favorite stars in 1080p? Good advice on DownThemAll, I'll have to try that. I tried forcing my wireless driver to run in b/g mode. Maybe the problem is fixed? I guess I'll find out soon. [Link] |

There are still a few more things to try, and I'm starting to get some more clues. The machine seems to lose association with the network regularly now, whereas that symptom wasn't evident before. So, I'm going to try to get to the root cause of that under the assumption that it's directly related. [Link] |

| bsl69dp Member 54 Posts 6/07 | Posted - Feb 2 2015 : 8:02PM - the sporadic nature, and - some other poor internet behavior on the wireless machines as compared to the one with a wired connection, and - complaints on public forums about this particular router provided by at&t, and - the exhaustion of other troubleshooting options. Like many things it wasn't really noticeable until it got bad enough. I took a shot and bought a new one and if nothing else, the whole network works much better. Web surfing, streaming, and computer-to-computer transfers are all better. After a couple days of experiments I should know for sure. [Link] |

| bsl69dp Member 54 Posts 6/07 | Posted - Feb 4 2015 : 10:42PM Symptoms: - Dropped internet connection, sometimes the computer would reconnect automatically, other times the computer would not see a network to reconnect to. Then I would have to restart the PC. - Apple products seemed to be less susceptible to the problem. - Dropping seemed very infrequent until I watched closely and saw it fairly regularly (multiple times per hour). - Failed downloads was the symptom that triggered me to observe it closely and solve it. It was almost impossible to download large files (and not just porn vids, any file that took more than a couple minutes to download had problems). I tried every fix I could find - clearing TCP/IP stack, turning off IPv6, looking for updated drivers, and a handful of others. No effect from any of them. I purchased a Linksys WRT 1900 AC and life is good now. General browsing is quicker, video streaming is MUCH better, downloads seem reliable, machine-to-machine transfers are much better.
