I'm getting lots of 503's and "We are sorry, the server encountered an error processing the page you requested...." messages.

Almost unusable right now (Wed 12:18am EST).

This sucks. It appears to be a database-related issue, not something tied to the network (like DNS resolution).

Oh well, close to my bedtime. Maybe it'll be fixed tomorrow...

I've been seeing periods of very slow response during the past two days. Seems to be o.k. right now though.

i'm trying to slowly transition the database away from the backup server we've been running on for the past month or so. the forum database has been moved. price search and review database will be moved over the weekend if there's no major meltdowns. then we'll be switching service providers later in the month. lots of fun.

Can you ping www.adultdvdtalk.com and provide me the IP address that it resolves to?

BTW, it's screaming fast here so it's most likely due to something outside of the network.

It is horrible here Drew. I keep getting a server not found message.

With ping to www.adultdvdtalk.com [63.116.134.189] it varies from 126 seconds to 'request timed out'. If it helps, I'm located in Oregon and have a broadband connection.

That's the new IP address. I wonder what is going on?

I'll look into it.

It's getting worse as time goes on. About one out of four tries works. The rest get the server not found error. ADT e-mail is completely gone for me by the way [12.149.239.106]. I'm sure you don't want to hear that either. Sorry. Due to the problems I'm logging off for a while. If you have any questions for me you can reach me at my real e-mail address. Steph has it.

The ADT email server was restarting within the past 10 minutes. It's up now.

After some quick research I think I know what's going on. We're in the midst of a switch from AT&T to UUNet as our service provider. That's why there's two different IP ranges coming up. I just started switching the sites over to the new IP range last night. Email, IRC and some other stuff hasn't been switched yet.

It looks like the IP range assigned to me by UUnet was in use by another company. At least traceroutes come up with a different company's name for the Ethernet IP on the router here. I suspect that the routing tables scattered throughout the internet need to update or something. Some ISPs may be affected others appear to be OK. When I access the site at it's new IP from the old circuit it responds very quickly. Average ping times from the AT&T circuit to UUNet are 20 ms.

I give up.

I'm outta here; I'll check back in a couple of days and hopefully routing will be better.

can you all goto the command prompt and execute this command

c:> tracert www.adultdvdtalk.com

and paste the output here.
You'll see at which place the slowdown begins..

Not that I care about anyone knowing where I am geographically as most people who have been here over two years know that however I'm not sure I want all my ISP info all over. Drew I e-mailed it to you. Thanks Saki.

Keep in mind that this will identify (geographically) you are located and which ISP you are using.

Better but not where it needs to be. Some clicks take forever to load.

Hopefully things are better today with the website. I know the chat server is all messed up. I'm working on that.

I think I have the problem isolated to the router we're using on the new circuit. I'm going to swap routers tonight sometime. The router is dropping an average of 1.6% of the packets it's sending out.

I'll be taking everything down tonight while swapping the routers. I expect the site to be down for about 30 - 45 minutes starting around midnight EST.

Is this thing related to the fact that I can't upload any pictures to the ADT serverspace that Drew and Steph have set up for me? Whenever I try to connect to it through my FTP client, I can't get a connection and after awhile I just get a timed out connection message.

Edited: The forum and the e-mail server work fine for me.

Walter, yes, the conversion is the reason why you can't connect via FTP. Just use the new IP address of 63.116.134.212 instead of forum.adultdvdtalk.com in your FTP client program. You should be able to connect using the IP.
