I'll be in Europe in a couple weeks and was wondering if I buy a DVD in Europe will it play in my DVD player here?

Only if the DVD is Region Free. Otherwise, you will need a multi-region player to play European DVD which are Region 2 or whatever (assuming you have a standard "American" player).

Most adult DVDs produced in Europe are region free (zone 0), a few are zone/region 2, just check the cover of your DVD (sometimes it's on the back) this should be mentionned.

Yeah, I was talking about this the other day. Rather than me repeat opinions, check out this DVD FAQ, and specifically the following point:

"Bottom line: NTSC discs (with Dolby Digital audio) play on over 95% of DVD
installations worldwide. PAL discs play on very few players outside of PAL
countries. (This is irrespective of regions -- see 1.10.)"
