I've got tapes of my friend's kids' sporting events, and I'd like to put them on DVD with chapters.

Suggestions on good DVD making software? Tried the stuff that came with Nero 6 and it's a mess. I just can't figure it out.

I don't need professional quality or jazz. Just something so if I'm laying down a video of a baseball game, I could mark "Inning 1." "Inning 2." "Inning 3." etc. That kind of thing.

All I ever use is nero and sometimes poweriso) for making DVDs.
Where are you running into trouble with Nero, if you don't mind?

I don't recall it allowing me to make chapter stops. I could just make a menu with titles. If I had four movies, I could make each clickable on a menu, but I couldn't place stops within the movies.

That and I found the user interface to be an incredible PITA (and I'm pretty computer savvy, so I don't think it was my fault).

That was Nero 6. Maybe its changed in 7. Or maybe I just never figured it out.

I use Nero 6.

I am not sure if it matters but what kind of source file are you using?

I can't test nero 6 out right now to tell you how I was doing it because of doing other resource-intensive stuff.

As soon as I can I will though, this is a problem I'm dying to solve because I think I have done it before.

Here are the steps:

Use nero and pick the option of "create dvd video"

When it asked you which files to add, pick your files.

Right click on the video file that you want to add chapters to.

A pop-up menu will have the option "create chapters".

From there you should be able to figure it out, I have a feeling you just couldn't find the menu.

Sonic RecordNow came with my computer. I haven't used it enough to really get good with it, and of course I'm sure I'd have to shell out more to get a better version, but using what came with my computer (a year or two ago) I can add chapter stops to videos.

I dont know how to take film onto the hard drive, but i do know that
MainConcept MPEG Encoder to create a DVD (corerct viewing size)
then I use a program called "TempEnc DVD Author" to convert to DVD files, then use NERO to burn it to DVD
Hope that helps
oh and if it doesent fit, just use DVD Shrink

My heart goes out to people trying to make DVDs.....with any software. I finally just gave up and started chewing on random things I had laying about. I really wanted to fling my computer through the nearest window but knew I'd regret it when I regained my composure.
I used Nero a few times a couple of years ago and it was the most frustrating experience I've ever had with a piece of software. I get that success with it is possible and once you figure it out, it's probably no big deal but fuck! They charge people for this shit! If I had to spend several hours every couple of days with a new software package like Nero, I'd be completely insane within a month.
