These problems we were having today were 100% my fault. You should be scolding me for being a dipshit and installing untested software on a production server.
I've stayed away from the .NET platform until recently. I figured I'd give it a try and installed it at home on my desktop. Things were going well so I threw it on the server last night. That was a mistake. Turns out that .NET 2.0 or newer doesn't play well with some of the ISAPI filter software we run on the web server. It was a huge PITA to figure out what was causing the website to randomly hang. There were no clues in the system logs. I had to resort to stack traces and dumps to finally figure it out.
I should know better than to do shit like that on a production server. When we hosted the sites as home I had a development server that was an identical twin of the production server. It was easy to test stuff before making it live for the world. Now that we rent servers at a hosting company I can't really justify the cost of an identically configured development system at their facility. So stuff like today's mishaps will happen from time to time.

Well, the point is that this forum always runs pretty smoothly. It's rare when you can't access it for very long. A lot of forums I've been on were a mess. All the technical stuff goes way over my head. I'd never figure it out. I guess a lot of forums are ran by people who just don't care or don't know what they're doing. You figured out what you did wrong so you do know what you're doing. You just messed up.
