You might have to get an external converter to satisfy the rest of your requirements, even if they are ridiculously expensive (at least they were the last time I researched them). Of course, you could get a digital TV that accepts both PAL and NTSC instead. *Doesn't get weird on the tougher discs (e.g. Matrix) Hmmm, I haven't found a player yet that didn't get foxed by at least one DVD. My best suggestion for the single-disc player is the <iSampo </i brand. These units are shipped in the USA as NTSC Region 1 players; however, out-of-the-box, they handle NTSC-to-PAL conversion near perfectly - easily as well as a $500+ external black box converter. In addition, they play almost every current format and file type in existence. I have the DVE-631-CF; I also highly recommend the DVE-681P model. By burning a CD-ROM with a subdirectory containing a single file (or more if you desire a variety of options), you can convert the Sampo player to multi-region operation. There are also a number of other programming tricks that Sampo players can perform - all with the magic of BIOS files that are easily programmable on any PC-based computer and/or downloadable from a number of sites on the web (see: area 450 and nerd-out). ~ GaySatyr [Link] |

Based on reading about them, it appears that both contain electronics similar to the Sampo models to handle the NTSC/PAL situation.
