I'm not familiar with that model. If you need VCD compliance then it probably won't work for you, since it isn't mentioned in the specs.

I have a Panasonic DVD 5800 which is designed to capture shows off of TV but works just as well for video transfer. It will play all types of CD's, including VCD, along with DVD video and DVD-R. The one quirk I've found in my unit is that you have to turn it off and back on after finalizing a DVD.

I haven't kept up with the DVD format wars so I'm not sure how DVD-R stands in comparison to DVD+R. At any rate, I would suggest that you make your purchase from a store that will take the unit you decide upon back with no questions asked. That way you'll get a chance to test out the features (especially the editing) and you don't have to worry about losing more than the cost of a few DVD's if it doesn't work out.

The DVD "+" system is getting the harder push although almost all the new DVD "-" systems are actually dual -- both "-" and "+" -- so it has become nearly a non-issue.

The DVD "-" discs are somewhat more compatible with older set-top players.

I bought a philips dvdr75 a week ago and so far i have had no problems recording from the tv , video and from certain dvd's.It will record to dvd+r and dvd+rw
