What kind of lights are good for gonzo porn? Do they sell them in kits? And what accessories are nice to have for them?

Video HATES contrast. Highlight burn and shadows turn to muddy mush. The easiest solution is to use A LOT of indirect light. If you take a bunch of 1000 watt painter's lights and bounce them off the walls/ceiling you can get a remarkably open/shadow free look that is what people seem to like in gonzo. The down side is you have almost no control over where the light does and doesn't fall, and the room will get very hot very fast.

Once you start trying to control where the light falls, the array of light fixtures is positively amazing; everthing from 250 watt practicals that cost $1.99 to 20K fresnels costing thousands of dollars. My personal kit consists of a small variety of softboxes, small focusable fixtures, and larger open face light. Since you live in NYC you should go to B&H Photo and Barbizon to have a look around. If you use your imagination, there's a lot that you can do with Home Depot fixtures. A lot of the fixtures common today started off as "home made" specialty gadgets.

A cheap video camera and good light will nearlyalways look better than an expensive camera and crappy light. Have fun!

get some tungsten lights from home depot and bounce them off the walls, everything will be high key. You can also use them to heat your house in winter. Be careful though, if you spend more than two or three hours under tungsten light you will get a sunburn.

I was once involved in a video project where the whole scene was lit up with a lot of tungsten lights. after about 30 minutes of being on camera, my eyes began to hurt really badly. It continued for 2 days straight - I dont like those lights.
