I am also experiencing the problem that someone else reported in a recent thread, some DVDs that I rent are easily played by my laptop DVD player, but have many problems of jumping, freezing and displaying "disk error" on my stand alone player.

Since I do not like to watch my DVDs in a damn laptop flat monitor, I would like to solve my problem with the stand alone player buying another one.
Some technician in an Italian newsgroup told me that the problem with my present model (Grunding Livance GDP 3100) is that it has not a good error correction. In fact, all the discs that he has problem with are ones with some minor scratches. In his opinion, most laptop DVD players have a good error correction that enables them to read completely even seriously scratched discs.
He also suggested me a model of stand-alone DVD with that feature, a model from German brand Medion. Unfortunately, this brand is very hard to find in the tech shops of my region and I couldn't even find any European on-line trader who sells it.
So, here I am to ask you for a suggestion about another model of DVD player (possibly of a major brand and one that is available in Europe) who has a good error correction and that is able to read scratched discs as well as laptop player do.

I don't know how their newer models do, but my old JVC XV-511 does great with scratched discs. You might want to check out the ratings of their newer players on some sites to see if they are up to the same par.
