It really depends on the kind of content you're after, but there are a lot of producers that consistently produce excellent discs:
Studio A -- Outstanding picture and sound... almost second to none in the adult world. The more recent titles feature both anamorphic widescreen and 5.1 sound, but you have to be an Andrew Blake fan.
Evil Angel -- Their older stuff and catalog releases can still have some fuzziness about them, but their new stuff is outstanding, especially in terms of picture quality. See Fashionistas or Ass Collector for the most glowing examples of both fantastic sound and picture.
VCA -- Outstanding DVD authoring--they do things in authoring that many other adult companies can only dream about. See Being with Juli Ashton for an example of this.
Private -- Especially in what I call the "2nd Age of Private", they are very consistent and very good, but the dubbed audio on many of their titles can be a real detriment at times. See the latest Adamo and Kovi titles.
Digital Sin / New Sensations -- Again, these guys do things with DVD authoring that are far more advanced than most studios are capable of. Their virtual sex titles (My Plaything series) are the pinnacle of their work in DVD picture, sound, and authoring quality.
There really are a lot of studios out there that are producing consistently good DVDs. I've listed what I consider to be the cream of the crop. There are probably others that I'm forgetting. It sounds like New Machine is still working out the kinks... Again, though I don't have any direct experience with their DVDs.
