Smartblonde, I probably took your comments more like you meant them then Roger, Drew and Steph seem to have. I kinda expected you to accuse the reviewer of getting paid by the word (similar to how many of us were taught in school-"You need to make this report 1000 words class."-which tends to make many of us use every adjective we can think of, regardless of how well they fit). Porn reviews are different than mainstream reviews because in porn, for the most part, the acting/plot suck. I know you could give me plenty of examples where mainstream movies are just as bad but... Steph, I recently read a lot of the RAME messages. There were over 4000! I read a few reviews and decided to come back home to ADT. It has been stated by a number of "our community" that RAME is often a bunch of flame wars. They are right. For the most part, the signal to noise ratio there makes it a waste of my valuable time. If I wanted to hear about a handful of Asia Carrera haters (apparently she has the nerve to decide who she'll work with-Heavens!) and people unhappy with every aspect of porn, I know where to go.
I know Roger has a following for his style of review. There are some good reasons for this following and I've pointed out a few in the past. I respect that we all review things differently-remember, I like your reviews even though YOU don't. I like Astroknight's reviews even though we often disagree about stuff (if a review isn't entertaining, it's not worth my time-stuffy reviews are about as exciting as watching Randy West tell us how swell he is).
I'm new to reviewing and respect the groundwork Roger has done. It is very similar to the multitude of mainstream reviews I used to read on BBS'es 10 years ago. There is a need for them and he fills it nicely. I recently asked what does everyone want to see in a review. The comments tended to direct me towards writing less detail about the scenes and more about the technical aspects. I also freely admit to incorporating aspects of other reviewers styles here because "I" liked them.
I leave out more detail then I put in (I wrote 3 1/2 pages of notes for A Witch's Tail) because I think that more people here want that. Obviously, I can write until my fingers bleed so that's no problem. If people start wanting more detail, they can ask me or email me-I'll give them as much as they want (and then some).
So, in conclusion, Roger is certainly welcome here. His reviews are welcome here. His friends are welcome here. Heck, we're all one big happy family! Think of me as that old friendly uncle you like to visit with once or twice a year (ie: X-mas and your birthday). I can't believe that after years spent on RAME, Roger is so sensitive to a bit of friendly criticism and constructive comment. A week there would toughen a seasoned war vet-never mind the years he's been there. (no sarcasm intended above BTW)
Dear Steph, Drew & Roger, Geez, after reading these posts, I was almost afraid to scroll up & re-read what I wrote! Amid charges of "slamming" "bashing" & Drew's snippy "Don't waste your precious time" comment, my head was reeling, "Oh shit, what have I done, did I threaten someone? I'd better check, I can't imagine what........still checking.............huh? I'm sorry you all took my comments as slamming & bashing, I assure you that wasn't my intent. I was trying to make a point, but, not being a writer, perhaps I didn't make it clear. And I remember being tired at the time , and looking at it now, some parts don't even make much sense - but I hardly think it merits this stinging backlash! I was just expressing my opinion that for such a lengthy review, not one sentence was given to the movie's length, date of production, video/sound quality, but these are just my preferences, that's all. I've always been a cheerleader for ADT, but right now, I'm feeling kinda bashed. I've always felt that only by speaking up can we improve & grow, and that has been evidenced by some of the positive changes we have brought about through the talk here, but I guess that only goes so far.

Don, your comments were critical, but in the good way and certainly not offensive. I apologize if it sounded like I was upset by the comments. Different styles work for different people for sure. While I care more for RAME than you do, I see your point. I had to give up on the flame wars long ago because they are pointless. There is clearly a more civil and controlled tone here which I think reflects a different kind of viewer for adult porn on DVD. (Anyone wonder if Playstation II will change that?) You said this "I like your reviews even though YOU don't. " Did you mean to imply that I didn't like your reviews? If so, that's not the case. The style of review I like is different, but when I used the word sketchy, I probably should have used sketch-like or something without a possible double meaning. (Ditto when I say laundry list review. It's not an attack, just a phrase I've used for years to describe one of my favorite writer's work.)
So, sorry if anyone thought I was 'fighting back.' I didn't feel picked on. (It wasn't even MY review) :-) I honestly appreciate the comments and do want to be able to provide the kind of reviews that you want to read.
Smartblonde, I'm kind of surprised that everyone is on your case too. Roger has played in the "big leagues" of RAME and doubt that he took anything as a personal attack. Don't feel bashed-my guess is that a variety of stresses are playing on them. Their vacation will hopefully take care of that. My comments regarding "I like your reviews even though YOU don't" were directed at Steph-not you. She has been making a number of negative comments regarding her reviews and has threatened to remove them from the website recently. I specifically break my reply's up into sections by name I'm replying to so everyone knows what comments are directed where. I prefer that over making 3 or 4 separate replies.
Oh yeah, I prefer the term "outline" when someone describes my style on the sex scenes but no problem-I knew what you were referring to and took no exception. My belief is that both our styles compliment each other. Your/your employee's style gives as much detail as anyone could want on the actual story/scenes while mine focuses much more on the technical side. Neither of our styles will make everyone happy but if someone reads both-they will have whatever info they wanted.
There's no need to apologize-no offense was taken (although being awake in the middle of the night probably didn't help my "tone" after an especially long day). I routinely correspond with some of the production people and stars on these things nowadays and let me tell you-THEY can be abrasive. Is it my turn for the complain about Rog's reviews session?
I admit that many of Rog's reviews aren't always quite my style going over every single detail. Instead I skim through a lot of them. I know that I can find out almost everything about the movie from one of rog's reviews. I've used one of rog's reviews as a reference more than once if I was writing up a review and didn't have a copy of the movie handy and wanted to reference something that wasn't in my notes.
I only have two fairly minor complaints about this review. #1 - like Don said, Erica's review only goes over the plot and sex. Nothing is said about the audio and video quality, extras quality, etc. I feel these can be as important as the movie since it doesn't matter how good the movie is if you can't see or hear it clearly. In this case it's a minor detail as 'Pure Bliss' had good audio and video, but I still feel it's worth stating even if it's average. #2 - maybe it's different on the main site (and I admit that I didn't check), but to me this seems like one big jumble. There are no breaks in text to show any changes in the movie, changing from listing the disc features to the movie itself, etc. I admit that I scan through a lot of rog's reviews, and when it's one big jumble, I normally skip it if it doesn't seem that interesting or I don't have a lot of time. Just starting a new line for different things would have made all the difference in the world.
Hopefully this helps to get better reviews. The reviews on Rog's site are some of the best out there regardless of how technical they are and I look forward to more of them. Keep up the good work Rog and company.

First of all I didn't say anything negative about anyone - I simply stated positive things about Rog that some people reading this may not be aware of.Please do not attribute my honest reaction to your posts as "stress". Everyone who contributes to ADT knows that we appreciate their efforts. This has nothing to do with that. And everyone is NOT on dumblondes case.
Everybody who takes the time and effort to contribute to our site and to the positive aspects of this industry deserves some respect. This includes Rog. It is not a contest about which site has better reviews. We're working with Rog because we know how valuable the reviews on DVD Porn Reviews are - because our sites complement each other - because Rog is a friend. If all of us websites/communities work together we can accomplish a lot more.
It's not just about this particular thread. I love to see everyone encouraging each other about their reviews. I love to see reviews from new writers. I don't want to see competitions about who writes the best reviews - that seems to be the underlying tone of some posts recently.
I know it's difficult to express tone on a message board.

We both agree that Roger's site is a valuable resource. We both agree that his reviews complement the ones here. We both agree that positive feedback and helpful hints are welcome anywhere in regard to all the topics we've discussed-and that all the help everyone's given each other is a good thing.
Most of what we disagreed about was minor in relation to the "let's be nice and helpful" comments from virtually everyone. My comments on "stress" may have been inaccurate but they were designed to lighten up what has become way too tense a subject here. (BTW-Drew was the one appearing stressed) I formally apologize if you took anything I said differently than how I meant it-my intentions were (and remain) honorable.
I have no delusions that my reviews are the best-they are getting better with the help of some of the other reviewers here-but I have a long way to go. I haven't really seen the competition you're talking about except in minor ways. I asked the question on a recent thread so that I could perhaps learn more about what people like.
Roger knows that we (including myself) respect and like him. We appreciate all he's done for you and ADT. If he's ever in Houston, I'll buy him dinner and we can discuss it personally. ;)

Now, having said that, I'd like to say that I'd rather see rog post these reviews(IN ANY FASHION) in the forum simply because there are people(like me) who may not have the time(I work two jobs), energy(I'm a lazy girl), or inclination(lazy again) to jump to another site but can get a new viewpoint on movies. Personally, I read each one of rog's posts so I can see what other people are saying in their reviews and of course, what I can beg, borrow or steal to make mine better.

Jeff, I noticed! I even agree with the rating (although some of our more jaded friends wouldn't). Most of the discussion regarded methodology. To an extent, we seem to have agreed that the reviews on ADT compliment the ones on Roger's site and vice versa. Cool, huh?
