| Posted - Jan 7 2003 : 3:00PMIs anyone aware of sites or other venues for buying/selling/exchanging gay DVDs, similar to eBay or Half.com? I've been to Adult DVD Marketplace but that site doesn't have much actually for sale. There are a lot of listings with messages saying the item is not yet available, which leads me to believe that site is in the process of building up its seller inventory. What is available seems to be a bit of a dumping ground for loser DVDs from merchants or manufacturers. (e.g., Globalflix.com seems to have a lot of listings. But on their site they don't carry anything from Titan, Falcon, etc., so c'mon already.) Has anyone actually had any experience with this site as buyer OR seller? I'm sure the studios with their exorbitant prices would be loath to see an active secondary market of previously viewed Gay DVDs develop, but why not? I mean, people sell everything under the sun on eBay; why the hell not an auction site for gay porn? Anybody aware of anything along these lines out there?? Edited by - Billyjizz on Jan 7 2003

We recently launched Adult DVD Marketplace to fulfill precisely the need you’ve described. We hope to serve a role similar to Half.com or Amazon Marketplace for the adult DVD market, connecting buyers and sellers directly together through an online marketplace. We initially sought out online retailers willing to sell new DVDs through our site in order to quickly build up a large enough inventory of titles to make the site interesting. Our first focus was on straight titles, and although we’ve only been live for a little over six weeks, we are now beginning to see a large buildup of used titles on the straight side to augment the new titles (keep in mind that we haven’t been live long enough to get picked up by the search engines yet, so most of our support has come from ADT members and word of mouth). We’ve only recently directed our attention to the gay side of the business, but we are currently devoting the majority of our time and energy on lining up sellers able to improve the scope of our gay offerings (although we do have over 1,400 new gay titles already available at great prices). And, of course, we’re relying on customers like you to help us build up our inventory of used gay titles. Listing a used DVD for sale is very simple… once you’ve registered on the site it only takes a couple seconds to list your DVD. Again, our site as a whole, and particularly the gay side, is in its infancy, but maturing rapidly. We need community support in order to make the operation successful, so we hope you and others will check back often. And, any feedback on how we can make the site more useful to you is very much appreciated. The gay site, which will officially launch later this week, can now be accessed directly through the URL: Gay DVD Marketplace -------- Adult DVD Marketplace www.adultdvdmarketplace.com

Over the past year or so I have accumulated some dvds from Falcon and others that I already have, don't like, etc. I got these as holiday gifts, birthday gifts, door prizes from community fundraisers and dvds that I bought myself that I did not like. Can I post them for sale here on the Gay board or on one of the MarketPlace boards? I really don't want the hassle of auctions so I thought that ADT might be a better place to get rid of them. Mods? your thoughts? [Link] |

Yes, but in searching the US DVD trading board here, I came up with only a few posts for selling or trading gay DVDs, most a year old or more. Unless I'm missing something, not exactly a hotbet of gay commerce, I'd say. [Link] |

True there doesn't seem to be much trading of gay DVD's on the trading forum here, but I don't see any reason why one couldn't trade them there. [Link] |

We are still working to build up an inventory of used gay titles on Adult DVD Marketplace. Those titles that have been listed have sold very quickly, but we still have a higher ratio of buyers then sellers on the gay side of the site. For anyone who is interested in selling their used titles on our site, we are offering a significant discount on our commission rate to Adult DVD Talk members. Please contact me (gary@adultdvdmarketplace.com) for more info on the reduced commission, or with any suggestions on how we can make the site more useful.-------- Adult DVD Marketplace www.adultdvdmarketplace.com [Link] |

Gary,How easy is it to sell something on AdultDVDMarketplace? Is it like ebay, where you have to go through like 10 screens to create an auction? Or is it more like Half.com, where you just specify the item, and it takes care of the rest? [Link] |

Our site is modeled after Amazon Marketplace and Half.com... to add a listing all you have to do is select the title from our database, and then enter the price and condition of your DVD... the process is very fast and easy. And, you pay nothing for listing your DVD... you only pay us a small commission when and if you have a buyer. [Link] |

Hey....I've used AdultDVDMarketplace and have sold about 8 older titles that I weeded out from my collection. It's easy to use and Gary has been more then helpful with info and support. I would highly recommend you selling them there. The one thing I like is that if your dvd isn't selling you can always lower the price etc also if you go away on vacation or something you can put all your listings on hold. I never sold on eBay but found this really easy and a good way to let someone else enjoy some of my past dvds as well as make a few bucks. Check em' out! [Link] |
