Gore Gore Girl  Doctor of the Erotic Arts  7238 Posts 1/09 |  Posted - Jul 17 2012 : 4:15PMHi all, Those of you with Macs who like to get stills from dvds will have noticed that the new operating systems no longer allow you to do so. When you use snap n drag, and "grab" the screen shot, it produces a "checkerboard" instead of the image. It fucking sucks. Anyway, I have tried using VCL, and it works as long as I'm not picky about the image I grab, but most of the images I want to capture are intended to represent something quite specific about what I'm saying about the film in question. VCL FFs way to quickly, and is super annoying in that regard. You also can't see the images as you FF - it just freezes and then when you press play, it is at a random point in the movie. So, if I'm willing to pay for a program for Macs to grab images from a DVD *as easily and as precisely as using snap n drag* which should I use? Or, if someone has a secret to using VCL, do tell! It's expanding into other sectors. One push I've read is the frustration/hate of academic people towards classic publishing and their stranglehold. There's been a recent push to use OpenSource or Common License for publications as many view publishing companies as a hindrance and counter productive to science/advancement never mind monopoly. This battle has just started and if I remember it was either a MIT or Harvard group who wants to accelerate this. However, there's much inertia of course, and even many academic scientists/MDs love the prestige publishing in certain journals. This is just my take, so don't quote me.
