You're better off just getting a Blu-ray player that does a good job of upconversion, such as the Oppo BDP-83 for example.

( I wish they made TVs where the resolution of the TV could be changed. Is there anything like that by the way ? ). Upconverting Blu-ray players only do a so-so job. Does anyone know of any SOFTWARE that will CONVERT the DVDs to Blu-Ray QAULITY that I can then store on a Blu-ray disc. Please mention if YOU have USED it or SEEN others use it. How would you RATE them ? Better than upconverting Blu-ray players ? Please remember - I am NOT asking for software that can put 5 DVDs to a Blu-ray disc. | Bill All-Star Member 5334 Posts 6/00 | Posted - Sep 11 2010 : 3:59PM I bought my BDP-83 before the 80 was introduced (so I've never seen the 80 in action) and I can say in no uncertain terms that standard DVD's look really good on my 82" Mitsubishi. If you have a lot of SD DVD's that you want to watch, I'd recommend either upgrading to a BDP-83 or that you look for a used DV-983 or DV-981HD unit. There's currently a 981 available [ invalid url ]. I'd stay away from the 970 or 980 model Oppo's if you want to connect it with a big TV. Like the BDP-80, those models use the onboard chip for video processing. They're great for smaller TV's (I have a 970 connected to a 40" Toshiba). But I wouldn't use them on really big sets. [Link] |

In some cases, even though the edges are sharp ( which one would think is the difficult part ), the flesh really looks bad. In other cases, the entire picture is fuzzy, very soft edges. Can't wait for some genius to come up with a good software or product that will make all DVDs look like Blu-ray. [Link] |
