Just curious to know what you guys think on this topic? It seems to me that the DVD isn't any more superior than the VHS. There's no digital soundtrack or commentary on most either. Why pay more for DVD and get the same quality for VHS? Just curious? I may not have seen enough of these to know.

For selection VHS is of course MUCH better than DVD in the gay adult market. For now.
(In terms of price, I'm not sure. Gay adult films on VHS are way over-priced, too.)
I never bought pre-recorded VHS. Simply refused to do it. I could never make myself spend real money on something that could get caught in your machine, or erased, or whatever... Just bad 70s technology, in my opinion. (I used to rent-and-dupe instead...)
DVD has the capability of being VERY superior to VHS. Perhaps you've just seen ones with a poor digital transfer. They're also much more reliable and permanent. Then there's the extras, the sound and stuff--very little of which (you're right) is being taken advantage of...
While I'm happy to be sticking with DVDs 100% for all my permanent library purchases, I can certainly understand why most gay folks are apt to stay with VHS for now...

The new gay titles on VHS are always way to costly. I've only bought a couple of DVDs so far, the first being "Oh So Tender" - bought it cuz it was cheap and found it locally-the quality was ok but nothing to "shake a stick at"!
I did just get Jeff Strykers Underground though and could definitely see a much better difference. Crisp colors and quality and the sound was remastered to dolby so that was good as well. It had a picture gallery and a brief bio on Jeff too. Its a good one!
But in both cases I agree that I now dont have to worry about them getting damaged etc And you can get quite a few dvds out there that are cheap...if I could replace all my vhs-I would!

I agree that DVD is the more permanent medium. I don't buy videos first hand. We have a store locally that will sell used copies for relatively cheap. I generally don't spend more than $14 per video. When I can get a DVD for around that price then I'll start looking.

Sure the selection of titles is vastly superior on VHS but just give it time. I truly believe that within 5 years, once people realize how much better DVD's are over VHS, then we will see more and more titles on DVD.
The number one advantage of DVD porno over VHS? Have any of you ever had a favorite tape break because you, uhmmmm....spent more time on one section of a movie than others? :0 You know that constant rewinding and fast forwarding is the surest way to ruin a good tape!
