My 2 cents: If it's not broke, don't fix it.
The menus are easy to navigate, contain full-motion, and have good graphics/music.
What more do you want in a menu?
Isn't the movie more important than the menu?

that pretty much says it.

Personally i don't need any frills, menu wise,
"PLAY-CHAPTERS-EXTRAS" will do.

I think that the studios mentioned are well above average in thier menus especially when you compare them to other companies that shoot that sort of content, most of that stuff is not high gloss puffed up crap that a lot of the high budget feature companies have, and that is one of the things I like about RLD and Platinum X. The menus are easy to use flashy enough, and reasonably well done. On top of all that, I personally will forgive horrible menus (which is not the case at all with these companies) if the product is good, and platinum X and RLD put out some damned good films in my opinion.

I referred our DVD author to the thread. He was investigating the edit masters and recommended some technical changes that should be reflected in our future releases.
It may take some time to see the results, but I am confident things will get better.
Thanks,

In my humble opinion, it has nothing to do with the above companies, it has to do with the industry as a whole. If the material supported extras it would be a plus, but if the menus were better you'd complain that you were set up for some serious extras that are just bare boned.

The movie is important, but what's wrong with an insert chapter card, or a non cookie cutter menu. Everything is cheaper these days, and if an editor can't spend 20 minutes in After Effects, Combustion, Flint, Inferno or Flame, you are getting robbed!

Hell, skip a menu, and a case and just wrap my disc saran wrap.

You are talking about pennies that would sepperate your works from other companies. To me, that's more important than any film.

Tell me what you want to see in the way of extras and I will see if I can do it.
The standard extras on all my dvds are:

- Behind the Scenes
- Photo Shoot coverage
- Photo Gallery
- More Tease, Please!
- Bonus Footage (original sex, not outtakes)
- Director's Biography
- website information
- Cumshot Recap

Also, for genre-specific titles I try to do something related (ie: For TEN LITTLE PIGGIES, foot fetish stuff like an interview about toe sucking or I show a girl cutting her toenails).

There are many other companies out there that provide less. The menus are the least of my concerns. Let's get better at what's on the disk itself.

Thanks,
Brandon

Personally I don't like the cum shot recaps...at all, so I would say add more BTS. However I think PXP does a good job on their DVD menues as well good on their extras.

I, myself really like the behind the scenes interviews and just a general look at what happens on a porno set. It's really interesting for us who have never seen one in person.

Brandon, you are right the menus are the least of it. You do a good job with your extras and other than the movie itself that is the most important feature on a DVD to me. Besides a concise easy to use menu that one has seen 100 times is better than an original one that is confusing.

Hey Brandon, if I could pick one thing to expand the extras I would pick more BTS footage. I enjoy seeing the girls get ready for the scene, arrive, talk shit, etc . .

I always wish the BTS was alot longer. Especially when what is there is really good.

That said, I realize you can't spend all your damn time filming BTS, or that would be the scenes, but a bit more would be great!

I'm not singling you out. You just happened to ask.

I have to qualify this by saying that I have ordered Ten Little Piggies 1 & 2, and one other of yours, but they have not gotten here yet. From what you've said about the extra with Roxy and the cookie, I am sure to be pleased.

I only recently started watching porn, so these will be the first of your movies(that you directed) I will see. I am looking for longer BTS in general.

website information ...... well the url could be on the cover the rest i will find on the website itself

tease and cum-recap ... some need it some not, i dont need it

just my 2 (€-)cents

btw. i dont care about the menu-style ... i wank while watching the movie, not the menu :)

RedLight and PlatinumX are gonzo companies, they don't shoot features. Most production companies request to do menus like them. Gonzo menus has to be direct, simply and easy access to the sex scenes and extras.

The extras I like on a DVD:

- Behind the Scenes (can't get too much of that)
- More Tease, Please!
- Bonus Footage
- Photo Shoot coverage (just more BTS really)

What I can do without:

- Photo Gallery (put them on the website as wallpapers)
- Director's Biography (website)
- website information (URL on the cover will do)
- Cumshot Recap

As for the menus?
Just keep them simple and fast, fast, FAST!
As few animations when changing menus as possible.

I personally like to see interviews with the stars. In the case of genre dvd's (cum swallowing, facials, foot fetish, etc.), finding out what it is they like about swallowing cum or what about the foot makes them arouse, stuff like that. Just generally why this genre does it for them.

Well not to sound stupid or anything but I remember a day when there were no such thing as DVD extras I feel the buyer should be happy that studios like us offer the extra footage we do because at one point in time the extras were never there so I think we go above and beyond to give the viewer their money's worth.

Yeah, I agree because VHS do not contain any extras or bonus footage and are more expensive than DVD's.

That's what I thought and we really do spend a lot of time getting the extra footage for our fans to enjoy.

I really could care less about DVD Menus. Anyways, as far as DVD extras go I only check out extra scenes or BTS stuff.

Jewel, for the record: I am certainly not complaining. I am very pleased with all of the DVD extras in your company's movies. You do a great job!

Most companies like to hear customer feedback.

I just thought this was an opportunity to give feedback about what we do like.

As far as complaining about the menus, I don't think that makes much sense. They serve a function.

I just got Mason's Sexual Disorder in the mail today. Although I haven't had a chance to see it yet, I did look through the menu, and there are TONS of extras. I'm excited!

I just didn't want you to think we(or I) were complaining.

J.

The extras are definitely appreciated. I just thought that the thread was asking which kind of extras people like the best. Any bonus stuff makes a good movie that much better. Keep up the good work at PXP!

(sorry about my bad english).
When i post this thread i was thinking about the Menu work, i mean the Authoring work, im not complaining about the movie or the extras , i really adore the extras, when i buy any dvd from your companies the first thing i want to see is the behind the scenes, i love the natural charm from the girls (i love you Jewel), but im thinking if you pay so much money you can deserve another kind of menus like 3d or flying things (youre working with the same menus creators?). I really want to express so much but my lack in words..

Pastrulox: Thanks for your input. Let us know if you have seen any companies whose menus you like. It will give us a better idea of what you think is good. Our DVD author can do amazing things. We just need to show him examples.
Thanks!

Brandon, I saw youe responce to mine about menu's being the least of your concerns. I freelance and do mainstream work. Mostly cable stuff for a variety of national stations that I know all forum members watch. The point I was trying to make is any good DVD author should be gift with Motion Graphics. You just stated that yours is. Suggestions are always a good way to go, but if he is truely creative, maybe you should let him create his own transistions, and motion graphics for a new series you do.

Bottom line, even hollywood has some pretty poor DVD menus on some really good titles. I don't believe anyone is asking you to spend thousands in research and development, I'm saying that with a little effort, you culd rasie the bar.

Jewel said that you guys work hard, and I won't question that, but digital footage is just that. Anything you shoot is ready to go, and could become bonus material with a click of a mouse. VHS can't do that. Also, somebody raised the bar and made movies 2 hours, some companies go two hours, twenty minutes. That's asking a lot of a VHS tape.

A few companies wre noted in the subject of this thread. You've been called out, and it's an opportunity for you to flip the script. You don't have to, but anyfan that says a cool interface get's in the way is lying. We buy porn for porn, but the only thing that get's in my way is that FBI warning!

I hear you, P.Pimp! The output of a great DVD involves the creative resources of a collective team. You need great talent, production, camerawork, stills, editing, design, quality control, and replicating. Many people have to excel at what they do in order for something to stand out.
The directors at Platinum X Pictures each take their work very seriously, as do the directors at Red Light, Digital Sin, etc. I think our differences come through in the style of our movies. That, to me, if far more important than trying to make a more creative menu.
Therein lies my problem, though. I am obsessed with seeing what I want to see in the movie. I don't have any input -- for the most part -- into the menu designer's work. When I get a check disk back from the author, all I care about is that the navigation works properly and that the audio and video were transferred as good as possible.
If you don't mind, do me a favour. Pick out 2-3 DVDs that you think have outstanding menus. Send them to me at Platinum X and I will send you 4-5 movies of mine in exchange.
Sound good? E-mail me at brandoniron_99@yahoo.com.
Thanks!

Brandon, you have my total respect. It's obvious that you take a great level of pride in your work and production company. I hope that is an example to any other industry people that read post here. I'll be in touch, hopefully what I have for you helps you, at a minumun maybe it will inspire some new DVD design.
